Lisa Henry is here today with a bit of adorableness and a giveaway! Squishy hugs!
Pongo
“You painted our puppy?” Ian asks, a smile curling his mouth as he takes in the sight of Pongo’s colourful splashes. It looks like he got into a fight with a rainbow, and lost.
“It’s food colouring,” David assures him. “Totally safe.”
“Dalmatians are supposed to be black and white,” Ian says.
“Not here.” David puts an arm around his waist.
“No?”
“No.” David leans in close and presses a kiss to his cheek. “This is his forever home, and he can be whatever he wants and whoever he wants. He can be all the colours of the rainbow, and nobody’s ever going to tell him that he can’t. We don’t believe in binaries like black and white in this house, do we?”
There’s an edge to his tone that he tries to smile away, but Ian still hears it. It speaks of a history that David doesn’t talk about much, but Ian has filled in the blanks in the three years they’ve been together. He knows that David grew up with a lot of people telling him how wrong he was.
He smiles at David, and then down at Pongo. “No, we don’t believe any of that nonsense.”
David rewards him with another quick peck on the cheek and Pongo’s tail thumps on the floor as he gazes happily up at them both.
Warmth fills Ian.
This is a forever home for all of them.
How cute was that? What a great way to close the celebrations. Be sure to let Lisa know what you thought of her fic in the comments below!
