Happy Hour Chat: Duck! by Kim Dare

Raised among humans, Ori Jones only discovered he was an avian shifter six months ago. Unable to complete a full shift until he reaches his avian maturity, he still can’t be sure of his exact species.

But with species comes rank, and rank is everything to the avians. When a partial shift allows the elders to announce that they believe Ori to be a rather ugly little duckling, he drops straight to the bottom rung of their hierarchy.

Life isn’t easy for Ori until he comes to the attention of a high ranking hawk shifter. Then the only question is, is Ori really a duck—and what will his new master think when the truth eventually comes out?

Please Note: This is the second edition of this book. It has been tweaked and re-edited, but the plot has not changed.

When Kim Dare asked if we unicorns would read her revised edition of Duck! our collective response was something like this:

MOAR ORI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ori, everyone's favorite fledgling, and possibly, sweetest boy ever is back and better if you can believe that. I wasn't sure perfection could be improved upon, but one should never underestimate Kim Dare.

Lesson learned.

So, grab a seat and prepare to be blown away by our thorough discussion of Duck! which looks a lot like:

Breann: Ready!
Sunny: Raised among humans, Ori Jones only discovered he was an avian shifter six months ago. Cupcake: ORRRRIIIIIIIIIII! <3 <3 <3
Sunny: lol...Ori is so sweet
Breann: I love Ori.
SRAL: I love Ori a lot. The end.
SRAL: Great chat!
Breann: OK we're done!

Not quite. Come back here!

Theme of the Month: YA! Happy Hour Chat feat. "My Summer of Wes" by Missy Welsh

Beginning this month, we're gonna start mixing it up a little at the blog! Instead of Author of the Month features, we'll be doing theme months. YES! *fist pumps* B/c we all know how matchy-matchy we unicorns like things. ;) What better way than to matchy-match our reading materials?

This month's theme is YA. Yes, that's a chorus of cheers and groans in the clubhouse. You see, not everyone's a fan of YA. Howeeeeeever, they gave this story a fighting chance, and guess what? It came out on top!

The YA book BMBR chose to read this month is My Summer of Wes by Missy Welsh. Keep an eye out for more YA stories throughout this month!

Warning: As with all of our chats, this post will contain spoilers, zaniness, and wackadoodle squeeing.

Sunny: SRAL...you haven't read Sam and Mitch?! omg...Ann..she needs to read that scene in the truck
Sunny: you know the one...
Cuppers: You gotta read that fairy tale!!! That fairy tale is the shiznizzle!
Ann: YES! And the scene in the park. And the scene in the bar!
SRAL: buttsex?
Cuppers: OMG the bar scene… *sighs*
Lorix: The scene in the bar...
Ann: A plethora of buttsex
Lorix: Should we start the chat??
Sunny: okay, let me grab the blurb...
Ann: Blurb it!
Sunny: I didn't know. How could I? All through high school, I was beaten up and teased for being gay. But I wasn't gay. Or didn't think I was. Now Wes, the guy across the street who's taken me under his wing and been the best friend I've ever had, won't stop invading my dreams, hell, my every waking thought. Am I gay? Because I'm thinking I'd like to kiss him. Actually, I'm thinking there's a lot more I'd like to do with his mouth and the rest of that tall, confident, muscular body. Ah, man... I'm so gay! But what if he doesn't feel the same way about me? And, Jesus, what about my parents? And those bastards from school are still around. And I'm supposed to go to college this fall... Shit, I need to sit down. I can't breathe and I'm about to shake apart. Then Wes puts his hand on the back of my neck, gives me one of those encouraging squeezes and his bright smile, and everything's okay again. Yeah, I'm hooked. Oh, boy...
Cuppers: So much buttsex. Oodles of buttsex. And feelz.
Ann: *awkward
SRAL: I like that together
Ann: hahahahahahahahaha
SRAL: LMAO buttsex
B: Lol!
Ann: I love you Cuppity
Lorix: Confession - I read this book in September and half read a gazillion since...but I do remember I liked it!
B: So..... this is the cutest book EVER.
SRAL: I read this book...a year or 3 ago but I loved it. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Ann: I loved, loved, loved how much Mal finally felt loved and wanted
B: Aw! Me too.
Sunny: I read it 2 years ago, but re-read it today...and loved it all over again  =)

Happy Hour Chat: In the Red by Kari Gregg

Good day, and happy January and 2015 to all of you lovely ladies and gents! This month's happy hour chat was delayed a bit due to holiday schedules and unicorns living Wild and Crazy Lives™.

However, fear not! We are here! And we are chatty!

This month's happy hour chat book was In the Red by Kari Gregg. As you've no doubt guessed from the reviews that have been floating around BMBR this month, Kari Gregg is our January author of the month.

In case you missed it, there was also a great interview with Kari Gregg earlier this week. Now sit back, relax, and get ready for a squirmy and super sexy time!

Ann of Ween Gaybles: I loved the book, I hope I remember stuff
Sunny: me, too, Ann
Cuppers: Was it just the 4 of us that read it?
Lorix: I managed to read it before bed last night! Just - didn't think I was going to!
Sunny: 5, I think
Cuppers: 5 sorry
Sunny: lol...
Cuppers: ok… well… I hearted it real hard.
Cuppers: it were FUCKHAWT!!!!!!
Ann of Ween Gaybles: YES Cuppers - FUCKHAWT!
Ann of Ween Gaybles: i like that word
Sunny: I'm mad there isn't a sequel, though :(
SRAL: I really, really liked it! >:)
Audrey: Quick recap of the book's blurb: Forensic accountant Brian Foster was a rising star at TFOS -- the FBI's Terrorism Financing Operations Section -- until he was abducted, "questioned," and left for dead. His nine days of captivity broke him. Brian retreats to the mountains of western Maryland where he amasses enough weaponry to declare himself an independent nation and enough lamps to pinpoint his location from the International Space Station. He's losing the battle against paranoia. Too bad TFOS needs him. Brian stumbled onto something big when he vanished last year and TFOS needs that case resolved. Now.

The FBI tasks Special Agent Zachary Murdock with gluing Brian together and returning him to TFOS. Brian will steady once he focuses on work instead of his neuroses. As Zachary nudges Brian back into the career that cost him dearly, Brian's paranoia escalates. Personal and professional lines blur. Zachary isn't sure which presents the biggest complication anymore: Brian's peculiar brand of crazy, the case they're working, or the closeted submissive's surprising -- and enthralling -- kink.

Zachary and Brian both know, when the case heats up and they're forced to run, they're operating at a loss, though: they are in the red.
Sunny: My favorite scene...when they first opened the toy box...when Brian kept spreading his thighs further...so hot.
Ann of Ween Gaybles: *nods* Brian has some seriously enthralling kinks

Ready to hear about Brian's kinks? Then click on and check out the rest of the chat after the jump! :)

Warning: This chat contains spoilers.

Audrey: Today we're chatting "Clockwork Tangerine" by Rhys Ford.
Audrey: Quick copy/paste of the blurb: The British Empire reigns supreme, and its young Queen Victoria has expanded her realm to St. Francisco, a bustling city of English lords and Chinese ghettos. St. Francisco is a jewel in the Empire’s crown and as deeply embroiled in the conflict between the Arcane and Science as its sister city, London—a very dark and dangerous battle. Marcus Stenhill, Viscount of Westwood, stumbles upon that darkness when he encounters a pack of young bloods beating a man senseless. Westwood’s duty and honor demand he save the man, but he’s taken aback to discover the man is Robin Harris, a handsome young inventor indirectly responsible for the death of Marcus’s father. Living in the shadows following a failed coup, Robin devotes his life to easing others’ pain, even though his creations are considered mechanical abominations of magicks and science. Branded a deviant and a murderer, Robin expects the viscount to run as far as he can—and is amazed when Marcus reaches for him instead.
