Beauty and His Beast
They call him Marrex the Monster.
Deformed and wretched, Captain Marrex roams the black of space with only a pair of eccentric AIs for company. The curse in his DNA means a long, bitterly lonely life for the Ghelyxian, and it’s a fate Marrex knows he can’t change.
After a long sleep in stasis, Juniper Bo wakes to discover he’s an unwelcome guest aboard Captain Marrex’s ship. Though he tries to stay away from the surly Ghelyxian, he just doesn’t get why the curse is such a big deal—then again, Juniper knows his tastes are rather… unusual for a Human.
When friendship blooms between Marrex and Juniper, they realize they face a future that neither could have predicted in their wildest dreams.
Pretty cool right? Stay tuned because three of you can win your very own copy once it's released!
Now let's get to his flash fiction, shall we?
Chris put his hands behind his head, sighing happily, and closed his eyes. It was his last full day in Crete and he was making the best of the glorious, warm weather. His grandmother’s big uncovered veranda was just perfect for soaking in the sun before he had to return to his real life back in Toronto.
“There you are.”
Startled, Chris sat up and scrabbled for his shorts, holding them over his lap to cover his nudity. “Yaya… I thought you were at the castle,” he said, his face hot.
“I took the day off,” his grandmother replied with a shrug. “I thought I would spend it with my favourite grandson.” She shook her head and sat down on the other lounge chair, her lined face creased in a wide smile. “Were you too warm for shorts?”
Grimacing, Chris scratched at his beard and laughed. “I was just, um, working on my tan,” he said, looking down at himself. He was a nice, even brown everywhere from spending his mornings at the nude end of the Orthi Ammos beach while his grandmother gave tours at the Frangokastello castle. “It took me forever to pack my bags so I didn’t really have time for the beach this morning. I figured no one would see me… Sorry, Yaya.”
His grandmother laughed, waving off his apology. “Oh, I don’t care. I was only teasing. But you’re looking for trouble with all of… this.” She made a sweeping gesture encompassing him from head to toe.
“What do you mean?”
“You’re such a beautiful boy, Chrisaki mou,” she replied. “You’re going to catch Zeus’s eye with all that beauty… he won’t be able to resist getting a better look at you.”
Chris snorted a laugh. “What?”
“You’ll never even see him coming—swan, bull, eagle… a shower of gold,” she said, her brown eyes twinkling with mischief as she waggled her fingers above Chris. “Next thing you know, he’ll snatch you up and have his way with you.”
“You’re silly,” Chris said, grinning. Before retiring to volunteer her time as a docent for the castle, she’d worked at the archaeological museum in Thessaloniki. He’d loved the yearly family trips to Greece where he and his sister would sit in their grandmother’s study for hours, listening to her stories of gods and goddesses while she meticulously transcribed measurements and dates into the catalogues she was responsible for.
“Besides,” he added, “if he looks anything like the paintings, I’d be more than happy to get snatched up by such a hot sky daddy.”
His grandmother let out a peal of laughter and swatted his arm, getting to her feet. “All right, come on Ganymede,” she said. “Get some clothes on. I thought I’d treat you to lunch at the taverna.”
“Sounds great.”
After a full day of great food and last-minute souvenir shopping for a few friends, Chris decided to go for one last walk on the beach by himself as the sun was going down, just to say a quiet goodbye to the island. It would be hard to get away next year to visit, what with his internship starting, and he had no idea when he’d be back. Soberly, he picked his way barefoot over the rocks and ducked under the trees to get to the most secluded part of the beach, wishing he’d stayed an extra week. He walked up to the water’s edge and stood there quietly, water lapping at his feet as the sky put on its nightly show—dusky blues turning to purple, rose deepening then bursting into a fiery orange. Pale pinks slowly tinged a line of clouds that sparkled with gold against a deep maroon as the bright sun finally kissed the horizon. It was over in just a few minutes, but Chris lingered, alone on the beach, watching the sky darken.
That’s odd, he thought, noticing what looked like wisps of smoke rising from the water. Maybe it was fog… but it was the first time he’d seen it out there. Must be a change in temperature.
Shrugging to himself, he started back but he’d only gone a few steps before a brisk gust of wind blew over him. Chris looked over his shoulder and saw that the patch of fog had reached the beach. Now that it was closer, he could see that it was bigger than he’d assumed, and kicking up sand as the wind buffeted it. What the hell? He turned and watched it approach, his pulse quickening, and lifted a hand to shield his eyes as it drifted into him. However, the sand didn’t sting and the fog was warm, more like mist.
When it continued to swirl and gust around him even after he’d taken a few steps to escape it, panic took hold of Chris—the mist was oddly dense, pressing in on him, surrounding him on all sides. Breathing hard, he frantically waved his arms to try to disperse it, then he let out a cry when something touched him. It felt like a hand, and when he recoiled in fright, trying to evade it, a second hand took hold of him—big strong hands that skimmed up his sides and down his chest even though he couldn’t see anything. Suddenly an arm came around his waist and a low rumbling voice murmured words in his ear that he couldn’t understand.
“What? Oh my… fuuuuck,” Chris gasped, his voice stolen by wind as he was propelled up into the air by the invisible man holding him. Higher and higher they went, Chris’s stomach lurching with fear as watched the beach recede below his thrashing legs. “Please. Please put me down. Please…”
Again, the deep voice spoke and though the words meant nothing, the tone was unmistakably one of amusement. Mind racing, Chris clutched at the muscular arm around his waist as his swim trunks were tugged down, the red fabric fluttering in the wind as they fell…
…then he blinked, realization slowly dawning on him, and he took a few slow, shaky breaths, attempting to calm himself. It was obvious: he was dreaming. His subconscious had taken a liking to the whole “hot sky daddy” thing and decided to run with it. Chris laughed, still feeling nervous, and decided to close his eyes. Immediately it made things better when he couldn’t see that he was suspended in mid-air, high over the deserted beach, surrounded by nothing but mist and the night sky.
Chris could feel the broad furry chest against his back and the scratch of beard as the man kissed the side of his neck, his tongue hot and wet. Chris bit his lip and let out a low groan as his legs were parted by a big hand, his cock finally perking up at the thought of an aerial dream-fuck as his balls were fondled gently from behind.
Zeus spoke for a third time, his voice husky with lust, and Chris gasped as the god’s cock probed at his cleft.
“Wait…” he croaked, wishing he could find some kind of purchase for his legs. Zeus felt like he was hung like a bull and that scared him. “Ha-hang on…”
However, the sky god only held on tighter and let out a long, pleased sigh as he slid himself deep into Chris in one slow thrust. Chris yelled out, but there was no pain, just an incredible feeling of fullness that made him shudder with pleasure. “Oh, fuck yesss.”
Chuckling, Zeus adjusted his hold on Chris and began to thrust into him quickly and hard enough that Chris’s legs jounced wildly about in mid-air. Oblivious to everything but the cock inside him, Chris was lost in ecstasy—groaning and whimpering and gasping—as he jerked himself off, and when Zeus gave a loud, satisfied grunt, Chris sent his own spunk soaring into the wind…
Chris sat up and grabbed for the tissues, his heart pounding and dick still twitching. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a wet dream. Thankfully, he’d been sleeping on his back and had obviously kicked off the covers because of the heat… the only mess he’d made was on himself and not all over his grandmother’s sheets—that was a relief.
Hot sky daddy Zeus, he thought with amusement. Chris shook his head, grinning as he cleaned up, then looked over at the clock. Plenty of time to take a shower and have breakfast before his flight out of Heraklion.
Showered and fed, Chris stood out front with his grandmother, waiting for the cab to come pick him up.
“You have everything?” she asked, looking up at him.
“I think so, Yaya. And if I forgot something you could always mail it.”
“Or, it gives you an excuse to come back to visit.”
“I don’t need an excuse to come back,” he said, slinging his arm around his grandmother’s shoulders. He kissed the side of her head. “I love coming to see you Yaya.”
“Ouch,” she said, chuckling and rubbing her temple. “I liked it better when you didn’t have a beard.” Then her brow wrinkled as she focused on something in the distance. “What is that?”
Chris turned, trying to see what she was looking at. “Where?”
“Near the top,” she said, pointing up at the nearby plane tree that marked the path to the beach. “My eyes are old. What is that?”
Scanning the tall tree, Chris spotted something red hanging from an upper branch and his heart stopped in his chest. He squinted and took a few steps forward.
His grandmother followed, shielding her eyes. “Those look like your red swimming shorts,” she said, turning towards him. “What are your swimming shorts doing in a tree?”
No. Nope. Uh-uh. No way.
Letting out a shaky breath, Chris frowned at her. “No… those aren’t mine, Yaya,” he said lightly. “Must be someone else’s.”
Just then the cab turned up the dusty street and gave a quick double-honk. Chris walked to his bags in a daze and handed them to the driver to put in the trunk.
“Chris? Are you all right?” his grandmother asked. “You look strange.”
“I just… I’m just going to miss you,” he said quickly, reaching down to hug her. “That’s all. I had the best time.” Chris kissed her on the cheek.
“Me too,” she replied.
After one last hug, he climbed into the back seat of the cab, his mind spinning. Had he packed his red trunks? He could remember packing the others… but the red ones? The cab did a quick U-turn to get back on the main road, and as they passed the tree again, Chris looked up and stared at the red trunks on the branch.
“Was that you, Zeus?” he murmured out the window.
“Signomi?” asked the cabbie, looking over his shoulder.
“Sorry, nothing,” Chris replied, settling back in his seat. Then he heard chuckling in the wind whistling past his window… and grinned.
Who knew mist could be so hot? Let Bey know what you thought of Christos and the Mist below! Big thanks to Bey Deckard from the Unicorns!
Artist, Writer, Dog Lover.
Canadian indie author Bey Deckard wanted to be many things when he grew up: veterinarian, vampire, paleontologist, crane operator, sniper, ophthalmologist, brain surgeon, marine biologist, lawyer, forensic anthropologist, set designer, underwater archaeologist, mortician, rock star, philanthropist… but writer was not on the list. Artist wasn’t there either because he’d been drawing and paintings since he was a tot and figured that made him one already.
Freelance graphic design paid the bills while Bey levelled up with a BFA in Art History (minor in Anthro). However, he landed in the tech world where the degree was worth FA, and stayed there for over a decade before leaving, thoroughly sick of working for The Man. That’s when the writing started, and Bey still can’t believe it wasn’t on that list above because he absolutely loves doing it and can’t really imagine doing anything else.
Bey’s books aren’t quite romance and aren’t quite erotica, and they jump from genre to genre, but they’re all character driven and he likes to think they’re interesting.
These days, if Bey’s not writing or working on graphics, you’ll find him posting pics of his best buddy and constant canine companion Murphy, cooking up some tasty vegetarian eats, hanging out on facebook, or sitting back to watch a movie with a drink (or many).
As a reader, Bey’s usual staples are biographical works, medical research papers, all sorts of history books (nautical, medieval, and medical being his favourites), science fiction, fantasy, horror, KGB/CIA thrillers, and graphic novels.
