Anniversary Shenanigans: Author Visit + Giveaway - Bey Deckard

Fans of mermen, we have another fic for you that's sure to make you want to catch and never release from Bey Deckard. He's also offering up a backlist ebook giveaway too!

Catch of the Day

Slowly, Elias walked down the beach, following the music and stopping whenever it got lost in the whistling wind. Someone was singing, but he couldn’t figure out where it was coming from.

When he could hear the song, the words eluded him, but it sounded sad—the singer kept stuttering to a halt as if he were too choked up to go on. It was a strange song too, with an uneven melody that seemed to follow the ragged-rhythm sigh of the surf. Something about it was oddly compelling, pulling him along.

Finally, the song led Elias to the old dock, but it fell silent the moment he stepped foot on the rotted boards.

“Hello?”

There was no reply, but Elias heard a soft splashing beneath his feet. He leaned over the side of the dock and peered into the shadows. Eyes still adjusting to the gloom, he could just make out a naked shoulder and a pale hand reaching towards him in the water.

The figure whimpered.

“Holy shit. Hang on, dude,” Elias said, letting himself down over the side of the dock. The water wasn’t more than chest deep, but the footing was rocky and treacherous. He eased himself between two pilings and reached out, clasping the man’s hand… and immediately saw the problem: there was an old fishing net twisted around some of the supports and the man was half trapped beneath it.

Poor guy must have gone out for a swim and got caught up in the net.

“I’ll get you out of there. Don’t worry. You’ll be okay, okay? Just don’t panic…” He grabbed a handful of net and started hacking at it with the small rigging knife on his keychain, trying to make sense of the tangled mess in front of him. Thankfully, the guy held still, moving only to hold up parts of the net that could be cut away.

It soon became apparent that a snarl beneath the surface was caught on the closest piling. “I’m just going under for a sec, okay, dude? You’re almost free.” It didn’t seem like the guy was in any risk of drowning, but Elias had no idea how long he’d been trapped like this—despite how warm the water felt, the risk of hypothermia was real.

He took a deep breath and reached forward, blind in the dark, silty gloom, only to surface in surprise after only a few seconds. Elias wiped his face, panting. It felt like there was a big fish also caught in the net.

“Holy shit,” he said, reaching below the water trying to figure out whether the thing was alive or dead. “Okay, there this fish… I need to um…”—he moved closer to try to feel further along its slimy side—“just bear with me a… sec.” Elias’s eyes widened and he yanked his hand away, nearly losing his footing in the process.

“What the fuck.” He breathed hard a few times, trying to make sense of what he’d touched. His fingers had continued along the fish’s scales, thinking he’d come to a head or tail, but instead the scales had transitioned to smooth flesh… and his fingers had encountered a very human-like nipple.

“What the fuck,” Elias repeated, staring at the figure trapped beneath the dock.

The creature was a mermaid. No, wait, a merman.

Elias could make out wide-set eyes watching him unblinking from beneath a mop of dark hair. The creature didn’t seem threatening, and when it whimpered again, Elias decided that he couldn’t very well just leave it trapped there. However, in the back of his mind were the stories of mermaids luring sailors to their watery deaths…

Elias laughed nervously, trying to shake off his fears. “Hang on,” he said, not knowing if the merman could understand him. “I’ll get you free.”

Got your motor running didn't he? Sneaky author is sneaky. Good news is he was inspired by the pic and could possibly be publishing the rest of it in the near future so make sure you let the kind author know how much you crave would like the rest of this story. We unicorns thank Bey for helping us celebrate another year of unicorning.

About the author:

Artist, Writer, Dog Lover.

Born and raised in a small coastal town in northern Québec, Bey spent his early summers on his uncle’s boat and running wild on the beaches of the surrounding islands, lighting fires and building huts out of driftwood and fishermen’s nets. As an adult, he eventually made his way to university and earned a degree in Art History with a strong focus on Anthropology. Primarily a portrait painter and graphic artist, Bey sat down one day and decided to write about the two things that he felt most passionate about: sex and the sea.

Bey currently lives in the wilds of Montréal with his best buddy, a spotty pit bull named Murphy.

They call him Marrex the Monster.

After a long sleep in stasis, Juniper Bo wakes to discover he’s an unwelcome guest aboard Captain Marrex’s ship. Though he tries to stay away from the surly Ghelyxian, he just doesn’t get why the curse is such a big deal—then again, Juniper knows his tastes are rather… unusual for a Human.

When friendship blooms between Marrex and Juniper, they realize they face a future that neither could have predicted in their wildest dreams.

Light Bey Deckard, y'all! If his darker work scares you, this is a title that you can try.

This was light and sweet and just a bit snarky. Fun time to be had here!

Beauty and His Beast is an adaption of the famous fairy tale told in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE! And did you read the tags? The tags are everything because:

That's right, boys and girls....MAGIC. PENIS. Before you start thinking about all of the fun possibilities... let's chat about the stars of the story, hm?

Not the penis (though it definitely made my top mental list of fave magic penii). I'm talking about Marrex and Juniper Bo! Beauty in this case is a human names Juniper Bo. He's been in stasis for seventeen years and is awakened by 2 mischievous AIs, S1N and VAL. Okay really one is more the leader and the other follows. But thanks to their interference, Beauty aka Juniper was freed. Time has passed for the 22 year old and he doesn't know what Marrex's lonely ship found him. But he's grateful.

Marrex is an alien that resembles a demon in a way (red fur, four horns, fangs +> You know I was ALL over that). He is a disfigured due to a curse from puberty and banished from his home planet. He works on a space ship by himself and has his AIs for company. Finding the human scarred the loner and puts him out of his element. Being as Marrex takes his nickname 'Marrex the Monster' to heart, he acts like one in the beginning. It takes time and Juniper's charm to finally thaw the Beast.

This story has low angst. Marrex seems grumpy at first, but inside he's sweet. He's never had anyone to cal his own and he can't believe anyone would look at him favorably especially someone as beautiful as Juniper. There are so many variations of this theme and I really liked what the author did with it. There was enough time to get to know the main characters as they got more familiar with the other. And the AIs brought snark relief.

The conflict was good. I was curious about Juniper's family and wanted to really delve into why they were that way. His sisters got under my skin. The ending and epilogue were great but I wanted more resolution with the sisters. And maybe how the family aspect got to be that way as easily.

The sex was hot. Duh, magic penis.

LOL no seriously magic penis was le awesome. Marrex's anatomy was different. You'll need to read to see what it does. (Hint: O-mazing) It wasn't sex heavy, keeping with the lighter fun theme. But each sex scene was meaningful.

All in all a sweet, romantic story between an alien and his human.

Let's hear it one more time for magic penis.

Yeah, that's the stuff!

Christos and the Mist by Bey Deckard

Chris put his hands behind his head, sighing happily, and closed his eyes. It was his last full day in Crete and he was making the best of the glorious, warm weather. His grandmother’s big uncovered veranda was just perfect for soaking in the sun before he had to return to his real life back in Toronto.
“There you are.”
Startled, Chris sat up and scrabbled for his shorts, holding them over his lap to cover his nudity. “Yaya… I thought you were at the castle,” he said, his face hot.
“I took the day off,” his grandmother replied with a shrug. “I thought I would spend it with my favourite grandson.” She shook her head and sat down on the other lounge chair, her lined face creased in a wide smile. “Were you too warm for shorts?”
Grimacing, Chris scratched at his beard and laughed. “I was just, um, working on my tan,” he said, looking down at himself. He was a nice, even brown everywhere from spending his mornings at the nude end of the Orthi Ammos beach while his grandmother gave tours at the Frangokastello castle. “It took me forever to pack my bags so I didn’t really have time for the beach this morning. I figured no one would see me… Sorry, Yaya.”
His grandmother laughed, waving off his apology. “Oh, I don’t care. I was only teasing. But you’re looking for trouble with all of… this.” She made a sweeping gesture encompassing him from head to toe.
“What do you mean?”
“You’re such a beautiful boy, Chrisaki mou,” she replied. “You’re going to catch Zeus’s eye with all that beauty… he won’t be able to resist getting a better look at you.”
Chris snorted a laugh. “What?”
“You’ll never even see him coming—swan, bull, eagle… a shower of gold,” she said, her brown eyes twinkling with mischief as she waggled her fingers above Chris. “Next thing you know, he’ll snatch you up and have his way with you.”
“You’re silly,” Chris said, grinning. Before retiring to volunteer her time as a docent for the castle, she’d worked at the archaeological museum in Thessaloniki. He’d loved the yearly family trips to Greece where he and his sister would sit in their grandmother’s study for hours, listening to her stories of gods and goddesses while she meticulously transcribed measurements and dates into the catalogues she was responsible for.
“Besides,” he added, “if he looks anything like the paintings, I’d be more than happy to get snatched up by such a hot sky daddy.”
His grandmother let out a peal of laughter and swatted his arm, getting to her feet. “All right, come on Ganymede,” she said. “Get some clothes on. I thought I’d treat you to lunch at the taverna.”
“Sounds great.”

After a full day of great food and last-minute souvenir shopping for a few friends, Chris decided to go for one last walk on the beach by himself as the sun was going down, just to say a quiet goodbye to the island. It would be hard to get away next year to visit, what with his internship starting, and he had no idea when he’d be back. Soberly, he picked his way barefoot over the rocks and ducked under the trees to get to the most secluded part of the beach, wishing he’d stayed an extra week. He walked up to the water’s edge and stood there quietly, water lapping at his feet as the sky put on its nightly show—dusky blues turning to purple, rose deepening then bursting into a fiery orange. Pale pinks slowly tinged a line of clouds that sparkled with gold against a deep maroon as the bright sun finally kissed the horizon. It was over in just a few minutes, but Chris lingered, alone on the beach, watching the sky darken.
That’s odd, he thought, noticing what looked like wisps of smoke rising from the water. Maybe it was fog… but it was the first time he’d seen it out there. Must be a change in temperature.
Shrugging to himself, he started back but he’d only gone a few steps before a brisk gust of wind blew over him. Chris looked over his shoulder and saw that the patch of fog had reached the beach. Now that it was closer, he could see that it was bigger than he’d assumed, and kicking up sand as the wind buffeted it. What the hell? He turned and watched it approach, his pulse quickening, and lifted a hand to shield his eyes as it drifted into him. However, the sand didn’t sting and the fog was warm, more like mist.
When it continued to swirl and gust around him even after he’d taken a few steps to escape it, panic took hold of Chris—the mist was oddly dense, pressing in on him, surrounding him on all sides. Breathing hard, he frantically waved his arms to try to disperse it, then he let out a cry when something touched him. It felt like a hand, and when he recoiled in fright, trying to evade it, a second hand took hold of him—big strong hands that skimmed up his sides and down his chest even though he couldn’t see anything. Suddenly an arm came around his waist and a low rumbling voice murmured words in his ear that he couldn’t understand.
“What? Oh my… fuuuuck,” Chris gasped, his voice stolen by wind as he was propelled up into the air by the invisible man holding him. Higher and higher they went, Chris’s stomach lurching with fear as watched the beach recede below his thrashing legs. “Please. Please put me down. Please…”
Again, the deep voice spoke and though the words meant nothing, the tone was unmistakably one of amusement. Mind racing, Chris clutched at the muscular arm around his waist as his swim trunks were tugged down, the red fabric fluttering in the wind as they fell…
…then he blinked, realization slowly dawning on him, and he took a few slow, shaky breaths, attempting to calm himself. It was obvious: he was dreaming. His subconscious had taken a liking to the whole “hot sky daddy” thing and decided to run with it. Chris laughed, still feeling nervous, and decided to close his eyes. Immediately it made things better when he couldn’t see that he was suspended in mid-air, high over the deserted beach, surrounded by nothing but mist and the night sky.
Chris could feel the broad furry chest against his back and the scratch of beard as the man kissed the side of his neck, his tongue hot and wet. Chris bit his lip and let out a low groan as his legs were parted by a big hand, his cock finally perking up at the thought of an aerial dream-fuck as his balls were fondled gently from behind.
Zeus spoke for a third time, his voice husky with lust, and Chris gasped as the god’s cock probed at his cleft.
“Wait…” he croaked, wishing he could find some kind of purchase for his legs. Zeus felt like he was hung like a bull and that scared him. “Ha-hang on…”
However, the sky god only held on tighter and let out a long, pleased sigh as he slid himself deep into Chris in one slow thrust. Chris yelled out, but there was no pain, just an incredible feeling of fullness that made him shudder with pleasure. “Oh, fuck yesss.”
Chuckling, Zeus adjusted his hold on Chris and began to thrust into him quickly and hard enough that Chris’s legs jounced wildly about in mid-air. Oblivious to everything but the cock inside him, Chris was lost in ecstasy—groaning and whimpering and gasping—as he jerked himself off, and when Zeus gave a loud, satisfied grunt, Chris sent his own spunk soaring into the wind…

Chris sat up and grabbed for the tissues, his heart pounding and dick still twitching. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a wet dream. Thankfully, he’d been sleeping on his back and had obviously kicked off the covers because of the heat… the only mess he’d made was on himself and not all over his grandmother’s sheets—that was a relief.
Hot sky daddy Zeus, he thought with amusement. Chris shook his head, grinning as he cleaned up, then looked over at the clock. Plenty of time to take a shower and have breakfast before his flight out of Heraklion.

Showered and fed, Chris stood out front with his grandmother, waiting for the cab to come pick him up.
“You have everything?” she asked, looking up at him.
“I think so, Yaya. And if I forgot something you could always mail it.”
“Or, it gives you an excuse to come back to visit.”
“I don’t need an excuse to come back,” he said, slinging his arm around his grandmother’s shoulders. He kissed the side of her head. “I love coming to see you Yaya.”
“Ouch,” she said, chuckling and rubbing her temple. “I liked it better when you didn’t have a beard.” Then her brow wrinkled as she focused on something in the distance. “What is that?”
Chris turned, trying to see what she was looking at. “Where?”
“Near the top,” she said, pointing up at the nearby plane tree that marked the path to the beach. “My eyes are old. What is that?”
Scanning the tall tree, Chris spotted something red hanging from an upper branch and his heart stopped in his chest. He squinted and took a few steps forward.
His grandmother followed, shielding her eyes. “Those look like your red swimming shorts,” she said, turning towards him. “What are your swimming shorts doing in a tree?”
No. Nope. Uh-uh. No way.
Letting out a shaky breath, Chris frowned at her. “No… those aren’t mine, Yaya,” he said lightly. “Must be someone else’s.”
Just then the cab turned up the dusty street and gave a quick double-honk. Chris walked to his bags in a daze and handed them to the driver to put in the trunk.
“Chris? Are you all right?” his grandmother asked. “You look strange.”
“I just… I’m just going to miss you,” he said quickly, reaching down to hug her. “That’s all. I had the best time.” Chris kissed her on the cheek.
“Me too,” she replied.
After one last hug, he climbed into the back seat of the cab, his mind spinning. Had he packed his red trunks? He could remember packing the others… but the red ones? The cab did a quick U-turn to get back on the main road, and as they passed the tree again, Chris looked up and stared at the red trunks on the branch.
“Was that you, Zeus?” he murmured out the window.
“Signomi?” asked the cabbie, looking over his shoulder.
“Sorry, nothing,” Chris replied, settling back in his seat. Then he heard chuckling in the wind whistling past his window… and grinned.

Who knew mist could be so hot? Let Bey know what you thought of Christos and the Mist below! Big thanks to Bey Deckard from the Unicorns!

Artist, Writer, Dog Lover.

Canadian indie author Bey Deckard wanted to be many things when he grew up: veterinarian, vampire, paleontologist, crane operator, sniper, ophthalmologist, brain surgeon, marine biologist, lawyer, forensic anthropologist, set designer, underwater archaeologist, mortician, rock star, philanthropist… but writer was not on the list. Artist wasn’t there either because he’d been drawing and paintings since he was a tot and figured that made him one already.

Freelance graphic design paid the bills while Bey levelled up with a BFA in Art History (minor in Anthro). However, he landed in the tech world where the degree was worth FA, and stayed there for over a decade before leaving, thoroughly sick of working for The Man. That’s when the writing started, and Bey still can’t believe it wasn’t on that list above because he absolutely loves doing it and can’t really imagine doing anything else.

Bey’s books aren’t quite romance and aren’t quite erotica, and they jump from genre to genre, but they’re all character driven and he likes to think they’re interesting.

These days, if Bey’s not writing or working on graphics, you’ll find him posting pics of his best buddy and constant canine companion Murphy, cooking up some tasty vegetarian eats, hanging out on facebook, or sitting back to watch a movie with a drink (or many).

As a reader, Bey’s usual staples are biographical works, medical research papers, all sorts of history books (nautical, medieval, and medical being his favourites), science fiction, fantasy, horror, KGB/CIA thrillers, and graphic novels.

Tag Team Audiobook Review: Sarge & Murphy (F.I.S.T.S #1-2) by Bey Deckard

Genre(s): Science Fiction, Erotica, Military, BDSM, Gay

Sometimes it’s just about being in the right place at the right time… with the right person.

Sarge is the short story of a burgeoning D/s relationship between two Space Marines stationed on an alien planet where an endless war drags on.

Sergeant Wilkes is a hard man with a long, celebrated military career.

Brawny, tattooed, and utterly submissive, Murphy is just an interesting diversion… until Sarge realizes he has found something truly rare.

Listening Length: 1 hour and 32 minutes
Narrator: Nick J. Russo

Ann - 4 Hearts

Dammit Bey. Dammit Nick.

There are so many feels and delicious filth packed into this short novelette and I ate up every word. Telling the story in Dual POV either is the best thing ever or . . . not, and in Sarge, it is the BEST. It’s really the only way the author could have conveyed so much in so little time. Murphy is a BIG space Marine who is actually brilliant but speaks very little because he just isn’t that comfortable with verbal interaction, he’s there to do his duty, and that’s it. There is no one more loyal than Murphy.
Except for maybe Sarge. Sarge has dedicated his life to service and to say the man is tough is an understatement. He has no time for nonsense and when Murph saves his life, Sarge doesn’t waste words when asking about Murphy’s endowment and whether it matches the rest of his frame or not. Why yes Sarge, yes it does. Murphy has had a bit if a lust crush on Sarge for a while now and being a big old sub he doesn’t dare let himself wish that Sarge will dominate him, but when Sarge tells him . . .
“You’re a good boy, Murph,” he says softly to me. “You get me home, get me patched up, and you’ll see what good boys get.”
I swear to god, I have never made a sound like it before; half whimper, half gasp, it’s past my lips before I can stop it. Sarge sees the effect his words have on me, and he smiles.”

I loved the connection between these two and this is really just the beginning between them. You can stop here, but why the hell would you? In order to get the full Sarge and Murphy story, you need to move on to Murphy as soon as you finish Sarge.

SheReadsALot - 4 Hearts

Being as I've read this book and enjoyed Sarge to pieces, this audiobook has mighty big shoes to fill.

Murphy, the big hulking submissive soldier who finally gets his man, older Sarge set in a sci-fi erotica action packed short story... I am still grinning.

My feelings for Sarge, as a story, hasn't changed.

Listening to Deckard's words is a different experience for me. The story is still mega hot. Duh, it's a Deckard. But it took me forever to get into the book groove with the narrator, Nick J. Russo.

This is my first time listening to this narrator. I'm still unsure if we're going to be a good match. I got lost very easily, had to re-listen plenty of times. Thankfully, I read the book first. I think it's more of a me thing: the battle between how I imagined Sarge and Murphy to sound vs. Russo's take on it. His Sarge and Murphy voices are similar, but out of the two I enjoyed Sarge more.

Please don't think it was a horrible narration job, whatever form you get your hot hands on Sarge, get it (if the kinks are ones you enjoy).

Toward the end of the story, the narration improved, or it could be because after repeating the book from various locations, I got used to Russo's style. But I think Deckard's words are better read. We'll see, I'm listening to Murphy right after this.

The narration was 3.5 Hearts. My previous rating for Sarge still stands 4.5, so average it out = 4 Hearts

Sometimes when it seems like it’s too late, the right person comes along and opens your eyes…

Murphy is the continuing story of a D/s relationship between two Space Marines who found each other in the midst of hopelessness and misfortune.

Sarge and his newly minted squad travel across the galaxy on a top-secret mission that could help win the war. However, to Murphy something about the mission stinks, and it’s not just the planet they’ve landed on.

Listening Length: 1 hour and 37 minutes
Narrator: Nick J. Russo

Ann - 4.5 Hearts

So, hopefully you have taken my suggestion to heart and just bought both stories at the same time because you need to have the full tale to appreciate the relationship between these two plus get the full story of their universe.

While Sarge introduced these two and gave the setup, Murphy starts getting further into the emotion the characters feel, especially Sarge. At first he has a lot of frustration at actually having feelings and he has a tendency to take those frustrations out on Murphy. Of course, Murphy digs on it so there is a bit of emotional wrangling, but it’s not overdone and works at Sarge’s pace which flows perfectly for the story. I liked the narrator’s voice as Sarge talked himself through his new found feelings and I loved how in tune Murphy was with Sarge’s thoughts. Those two didn’t need to say a lot of words to be on the same emotional plane, but they spared no words when it came to kink time and I appreciated all those moments muchly. Sure, those moments were decadently fun to listen to, but as the story went on and the two became closer emotionally you can hear it in the sex. It gets more verbal and each has learned the others hot buttons perfectly.

The author gives more than just a memorable D/s relationship, there’s military intrigue and subterfuge aplenty giving the story more depth than what you’d expect for a couple of novelettes. He also gives Murphy a condition that sets him apart from others and it’s another dimension into Murphy that was really intriguing to read. Murphy has synesthesia and sees colors within others emotions. The technology of their time allows him to share that with Sarge when it’s called for and gave the two of them another connection. Now, I’ve always seen numbers as colors and while it’s nothing like what Murphy sees, I loved listening to what Murphy experienced.

These two characters are perfectly formed for each other, they are both incredibly strong men in their own ways, and Sarge’s possessive and protective attitude towards Murphy is balanced with Murphy’s need to please the man who gives him everything he needs made me melt for these guys. There’s nothing better than listening to two guys with complementary kinks coming together. Especially when you know, that without the other, the chances of finding someone so perfect for them would be pretty slim, so not only is it a great tale of sci-fi erotica, it’s a unique romance that was just really moving to listen to.

SheReadsALot - 4 Hearts

"Well, well, well... What the fuck's got you so damn worked up, son?" he says, and flicks the head of my cock hard; I wince but manage not to make a sound. "Have you been a bad boy and touched something that doesn't belong to you? And don't you goddamn lie to me."
Excuse me as I melt. Murphy and Sarge could have melted my e-reader.

Established couples aren't my go to. I think it might be why I didn't rush to read this book. Because Murphy and Sarge's initial scenes are that special.

But I am so happy I finally got to it. This time around I listened on audiobook and read along to the second book in the F.I.S.T.S. series. It's months later after that last battle scene in Sarge. Murphy and his Sarge both go through some changes, moving up the ranks, more erotic D/s scenes.

Murphy and Sarge already had a connection, this book was a deeper exploration of their bond. It was hot. There were a tender moment here and there. But overall, the two are made for each other.

And did I mention hot?

"Will you look at the mess you've made of yourself? How long's your cock been drooling all over you?"
"All day, Sarge. Like you wanted."

Because it continued the scorch from book #1.

Someone is possessive and demanding. I'm all about that. And in between the molten D/s times, there was a little suspense added. The men are sent to a swampy alien world and everything is not how it seems. Murphy's synesthesia comes back into play in this story. I thought it added a nice touch.

A little action, a lot sexy and an easy read. The series left on a note with a possible revolution, or possible attack on the leaders? There's room for more in the series should the author pursue but the couple is definitely solid. I liked the narration in Murphy more. I agree with Ann, if you go the audiobook route, listen to them back to back. It helps and I finished it with a smile. So maybe the narrator is growing on me. His Sarge voice was still consistent, gruff and growly.

I definitely recommend this series if sci-fi erotica is your type of read.

Chelsea - 5 Hearts

Amazing! Seriously! This is now in my top 5 favourite books ever! My fellow unicorns all completely agreed!

Daddy kink is my absolute favourite so I knew I'd love this from the very beginning. Obviously if you're not sure about daddy kink, tread lightly, read some quotes to see if it's for you, but if you do like daddy kink, boy oh boy are you in for a treat! The kink side of it did not disappoint at all! By far the best daddy kink book I've read!

“I want you to play with that beautiful dick. Get it hard for me, son. Look at me while you’re touching yourself . I want to see how much you want your daddy…”
“Yes, Daddy,” he whispered…

Now it's not always 'son’, it's kiddo and baby boy and good boy and pup and My God these pet names had me squirming with every word!

But what made this book go into my top 5 is the all round fantastic characters, lack of crappy non-essential drama and depth to the relationship between Greg and Emyr.

Greg has a serious past trauma haunting him and it was beautiful seeing Emyr so determined to help him, to have him. It takes a little while for Greg to give in and when he does he's cautious, scared of getting hurt, or hurting Emyr but Emyr never gives up. He's strength when Greg needs it. It was fantastic! All the side characters were rich and wonderful as well!

I could go on and on and on about this book, but I want you to read it and discover it for yourself, so I'll shut up now.

But do it.

Read it.

Now.

Sara - 5 Hearts

When I saw this book I jumped on it because hello, Daddy kink. From what I have read of the author I knew the story had a certain way to go (*ahem* depravity) and while I was prepared for that, I was not prepared for what I got in this at all. The author mentions that he may have written something more “romance-y than usual” and goodness was this ever romantic.

I love that yeah, this is daddy kink but not the norm we usually get or would think from the author. I won’t go into a whole bunch of details as to why, I have trouble trying to explain without spoiling and I really, truly feel that this book just needs to be read and have each moment presented so the reader gets the raw emotions. EMOTIONS people, there are so many in this I don’t know what to say and if you’ve ever read a review from me, you know that’s huge.

The chemistry between Greg and Emyr is instant and amazing. I was so into them as individuals and as a couple and all that comes with that. The sweet and sexy kink, the hurt/comfort, the Daddy/good boy and just everything. I truly have no idea what I am saying or how to properly review this because it was so much and I gorged hard core on this book.

This story, has so much more than a romance to it though it’s terribly romantic. All that happens, all that the author throws in with being exposed just about did me in. I am a sensitive reader and I was gasping and tearing up numerous times while reading. It’s a good thing I am a fair haired ginger and read this at my desk, right? Also makes sense for the permanent blush on my fair cheeks and neck while I read the sex and kink in this because holy hell, it’s hot AF! I can’t even with what I read because I would need something to bite down on to stifle the groans that may have possibly escaped while reading. It’s a damn good thing I also draw the line a dry humping desk furniture because, well you know. This was hot.

BUT, this was again romantic and dealt with many social issues of not only coming out, being your true self under the rainbow, but also dabbles in the shit storm that we, or I, as an American am currently living through. I think the dirtiest word I read in this book starts with a T and ends with P but it’s so vile, I can’t bring myself to type it nor speak it out loud.

Anyway.

I think I will stop my ramble now. I am sure there will be much better worded reviews of this and ones that make sense but for me, this is it. I just fell so hard for this book in so many ways. I read to feel and this book made me feel… everything. It was such a wonderfully hopeful, erotic, kinky and terribly romantic book that I did nothing at work and just read because I couldn’t stop. I was lost in the world of Emyr and Greg and when the story ended, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

SheReadsALot - 4.5 Hearts

Seduction by photo shoot.

A sweet love story with a side of daddy kink. Not what I expected prior to going in...

"It's like I want to crush him up into a little ball and tuck him directly into my heart..."
...but it works.

Exposed is foremost a romance between two damaged souls who happen to meet by chance one rainy night in London, of all places. Emyr is a Welsh twenty year old rising rock star. His innocent looks and provocative lyrics have a following. Greg, forty two year old Canadian web designer and photographer, couldn't imagine his luck bucking into the crying man. Emyr's face begs to be captured on camera, Greg's camera. But even more so Greg notices someone who is cracking at the seams, he's been there, is still there. So he invites a stranger to his hotel room, just to talk. And Emyr accepts.

Thus begins their connection and their path to more.
"I am, you know," he said after a moment."Are what?""Yours. Completely.""Ha... When did I ask you that?""You didn't have to."
Greg is a dominant who is still reeling from his last sub and the aftermath of what he thought was a scene. It's been five years and his self imposed celibacy has never been tested as it is with Emyr. There's an innocence that is alluring. But once he sees how obedient Emyr is, well it just calls to him. From the moment these two men meet, their connection is palpable. I kept reading along, saying to myself, this couldn't really happen, could it? Meeting a rock star and tumbling into their world?

But it's Greg and Emyr's connection, their ease with one another, the way they exposed their inner workings to each other. (Not without hesitation from one of the men) That's what I bought. It's what sold me anytime I questioned an initial response.

Greg tries to back away from the celebrity. Emyr is too young, probably straight. The impromptu photo shoot/ session didn't break his celibacy. But Greg's subconscious and feelings won't be denied. The boy got under his skin.
You get sort of numb after a while when you cut off human contact, and you end up telling yourself all sorts of bullshit--like, that you don't actually need it, that it's not so bad going without--and then you carry on building a shell around yourself with these lies. But, what you don't realize is that shell is brittle and thin and made of denial, barely containing the visceral need growing in your guts like some formless, ravenous, single-minded creature.

Though the story is told from Greg's POV, we get a good sense of Emyr. He might be young and inexperienced, but he was mature in a lot aspects. He was persistent and willing to try new things. I loved that as the daddy kink was presented on the table, he researched! And discovered a part of himself he didn't knew existed. Greg is his first real relationship, and in a way, it's Greg's first real relationship too.
"Trust me, Daddy."Daddy. I smiled, and he gave me a coy grin in return."You're determined to wear me down.""I am that.""You're incorrigible.""That too."
I'm a fan of age gaps, damaged protagonists with internal baggage, heroes who aren't the best at communicating their emotions. Exposed definitely has that. The angst is more internal struggles than external. Greg and Emyr have to trust, communicate. And I think it was my most favorite thing about this novel, (besides the daddy kink, duh). It was that the two communicated, even when it hurt. It was equal footing where it counted.

Now let's get to the daddy kink shall we?

Daddy kink is fairly tamer on the BDSM scale. And this story is not necessarily a formalized, contract bound pairing. It read more natural. And if you're a reader who clutches their pearl at the mention of daddy kink, this is a romance first. The daddy kink if I had to rate it on a 1 to 5 of extremes, 5 being the most hardcore, it's a 1. There was role playing, a few spankings, D/s. Bonus for the bare backing, (semi)public sex, size difference and big guy bottoming scene. I like it when daddies get breached too. ;D

If you're going in expecting hardcore scenes, you might not enjoy this as much. The sex is melting hot (hello it's a Deckard), there are definitely re-read worthy chapters. What I enjoyed about it is that it wasn't overly long drawn out scenes. Every sexual encounter read organic and fit the main characters. I did slowly grow to love the main characters, separately and as a pair. I think they're perfect for each other.

It's no surprise I enjoy this author's work and his back list varies in taste. This was the most romantic, most sweet I've ever read from him.

"You've nothing to worry about, silly--I'm yours... And you're mine, and I'll take care of that poor, neglected heart of yours just as well as I take care of that poor, neglected cock.""Well, it's not so neglected anymore," I said, making as if to mull it over what he had said. "You do take good care of it--that bodes well for my heart, I suppose."

I'm not surprised he wrote it, the tell tale signs of his writing are all there. Vivid settings, it's a road trip for a large chunk of Exposed, I felt like I was there with the pair and the cast of side characters at each location, an interesting cast of characters (Owain, Barrie, Rose and the nain dominatrix!) that you can't help to enjoy. His side characters have a tendency to enrich his stories without overtaking the shine from the main characters. There was a little suspense-ful twist, that wasn't over dramatic. It ended a little tamer than introduced.

Overall, a great read that I'm happy to add to my favorites of 2017 list.

This is sweet for this author, not necessarily your run of the mill schmoop. So if you're looking to finally delve into this author's work, Exposed is a great place to start. (His Actor's Circle series is also on the tamer side of the Deckard spectrum)

I don't know if the author will ever return to this couple. I think their HEA is pretty solid. But maybe a possible dabble into one of their scenes? I think I'm going to miss Daddy and his boy.

Who knew photo shoots could be so seductive?

A Man's Toy
by
Bey Deckard

The naked man in the gilded cage didn’t lift his head right away when I entered the room. He was a little older than the last one, fairer skinned… perhaps a touch more muscular. He would be handsome of features, of course—they were all handsome. He rose as I approached, smiling at me through the bars.
“Hello! You must be my steward? How do you do?”
I bowed low before him, startled by how enthusiastic he sounded. Normally, the king’s pleasure boys were at the very least shy, if not terrified of their new reality.
Interesting.
“What’s your name, then? What shall I call you?” he said, his pretty, iridescent eyes full of good cheer.
Frowning, I pointed to the scar on my throat and shook my head.
The young man’s forehead wrinkled and he nodded, sobering. “I see. Well, that’s a shame… Though, I can talk enough for both of us. The nuns never did manage to teach me the value of a silent tongue.” He grinned, a quicksilver thing wiping away his sombre look, and I found myself smiling back at him. How peculiar he was.
“I have a name for myself,” he said, pressing himself against the bars. “Would you like to hear it?”
Only the king could give him a name, no one else, but I nodded, amused by his impertinence.
“My secret name is Sbaeron.” He laughed at the surprise on my face. “What? Do you think me wicked for naming myself after the god of fornication?”
I could only stare. Wicked? Far beyond that. He was nothing like his predecessors.
“And, since you can’t tell me your name, I will call you Sky,” he said. “For your beautiful blue eyes—I’m think I’m half in love with you because of them.”
Shaking my head, I grinned at his silliness, and froze when he reached out to grasp my hand.
“Listen—I’ve met the king,” he whispered, his eyes wide. “He stood right where you are standing now, pulled his wrinkly old cock out of his trousers, and failed to get it to point at me, no matter how he tried.”
Never in my life had I heard anything so brazen…. well, not since they’d cut my own voice out for impudence when I was younger than he was. I raised my brows at him.
“Oh, don’t look at me like that, Sky. The man is ancient, frail, and impotent. How is he to take his pleasure from me? I know of no drug or device that can enable a man to do what he cannot, should his tool fail him.”
Hiding my scowl as I turned away, I was keenly aware of my own inadequacies. After testing the kettle’s heat, I brought it to the door of the cage and pulled out my key.
“What? You’re still going to wash me?” asked Sbaeron as I unlocked the door. He was beautifully muscled and all his body hair had been removed in preparation for the burden of being the king’s ceremonial pleasurer. Regardless of his unsoiled state, I was to wash him as I had all the young men before him. That was my duty, and one that I enjoyed far more than I was meant to.
“That feels good,” he murmured as I slid the wet cloth across his broad shoulders, taking my time to wash him carefully. “Sky, do you know I have never been touched by a man before? Not once?”
Frowning, I dipped the cloth in the kettle again and washed under his arms.
“Do you know what that’s like—being aroused, but unable to do a thing about it?”
I must have let out a harsh breath, the spectre of a laugh, because he raised his brows at me. Grabbing my wrist, he surprised me by guiding me across his sculpted chest. “I slept with my arms tied,” he whispered as he circled one of his nipples with the cloth in my hand, making it pucker. “I was watched at all times so that I couldn’t touch myself, even to piss.”
My heart thudded hard and my throat was dry as I stared down into his iridescent eyes.
“And now I find myself robbed of even the king’s elderly touch.” Sbaeron’s voice was low and intimate as he looked up at me. “Will I die a virgin?” He only had a month to live before he was sacrificed like the others.
I wrenched my wrist from his grasp and re-wet the cloth, concentrating on my work.
“I find you handsome, Sky. I don’t think I’ve ever met a man so tall and fine, and with such beautiful golden hair.” He tilted his head at me when I met his eyes again.
Jaw clenched, I washed his hip, following the line of his pelvis to where his erection stood defiant.
“Do you want me? No one is here but we two, and I would never, ever tell a soul if you took the king’s place.” There was unmistakable pain in his expression as he pleaded with me. “I’ve just been waiting so long…”
In a mixture of bitterness and impatience, I grabbed his hand and pressed it to the crotch of my trousers.
Sbaeron looked at me, his brow creased, not understanding. With a harsh sigh, I quickly unbuttoned my pants, and fed his hand through the slit in the material.
Eyes round, he felt at the small lump of flesh that was all that remained of my manhood.
“You’re a eunuch,” he said, looking disappointed as his fingertips toyed with my scar. It felt good and, what tiny bit there was, began to stiffen at his touch. I closed my eyes. “Makes sense now.”
I couldn’t even have him if I wanted to.
A hiss escaped from between my lips when he lightly pinched my stiff lump and opened my eyes to see him watching me intently.
“You still feel pleasure?”
I nodded, and swallowed as he smiled mischievously. Though the fires of my libido normally burned low, Sbaeron was doing a fine job of fanning them. Without a word, he sank to his knees and unbuttoned the rest of the flap that hid my shame. I winced as he inspected the bit of raised flesh and the crooked scar that ran between my legs, but there was no disgust on his face, only enthusiasm.
“Mm. Maybe if I do this—” Sbaeron opened his mouth over what remained of the base of my cock and his tongue swirled, darting into the hole there, the inner skin so very sensitive to his efforts. His eyes met mine and I nodded, reaching for his head to stroke his hair.
Yes. Yes, this was nice. I would eventually orgasm if he kept this up, even ejaculate a thin stream, but it would take time. As if reading my thoughts, Sbaeron pulled away.
“If I’m able to make you climax… I wonder—” he licked his lips and smiled “—if you’d do the same for me?”
I let out a rasping, voiceless laugh and nodded, coaxing him forward again to continue. What else could I do?
Sighing, I smiled. I was going to like this new young man. It was a shame he would be replaced in a month’s time… but, what a month it would be.
