Tag Team Review: Deal Maker by Lily Morton

Sometimes your mouth makes deals that your heart can’t honour.

Jude is a highly successful model, but a very reluctant one. His life is full of casual hook-ups with pretty men in glamorous locations, but it’s still empty. However, circumstances decreed a long time ago that this was his path, so he’s resolutely stayed on it and accepted his fate with good grace. He made a deal with himself and his hook-ups. Get in, get out and no ties with anyone.

However, an accident at home one night leads to him making a new deal and accepting the offer of help from an unlikely source. It leads to an unexpected summer of falling in love with a larger than life man and his child.

But by the end of the summer his reasons for not staying are still valid. Will he turn away? Can he?

Asa is a talented actor who has spent time away from the scene to look after his son. But now he’s back, and the last thing he needs are complications from the gorgeous man who is staying with him. Scarred from too many betrayals, he has no intention of forming a lasting tie with anyone. However, he can’t resist the beautiful man with secrets, and to his horror he develops feelings.

But a deal’s a deal and they said it was just for the summer. What can Asa do with a man who has forever in his eyes and goodbye on his lips?

From the Amazon bestselling author of ‘Rule Breaker’ comes another scorchingly hot romantic comedy.

Lost in a Book - 4.5 Hearts

Well Ladies and Gents, it’s official- Lily Morton has been added to my automatic author list. If she writes it, I’ll read it.

I really enjoyed this story with Jude and Asa along with the frequent appearances from the fabulous Dylan and Gabe.

I loved almost everything about Jude. He’s sassy, loyal, loving, funny, and intelligent. When his ceiling caves in from water damage, he’s directed to visit Asa for possible boarding in exchange for being his assistant. And man did Jude assists his ass off for Asa.

Asa. *swoon* He has this warm, friendly, intelligent, larger than life temperament that compliments Jude’s so well. He's a gentle giant that can also be snarky and give as good as he gets. Unfortunately for Jude, Asa despises models and thinks they are all pretty much a waste of space that lack brain cells. Unfortunately for Asa, he doesn’t hide his opinion and makes it clear to Jude on their first meet exactly what he thinks of models.

Hilarity ensures as Jude wins Oscars daily by acting the part of brainless model. I laughed my ass off at his antics and giggled as Asa begins to pick up on them as well. Both men have a ton of baggage due to family issues and burns from past relationships. They're quick to judge and very slow to knock down the walls. Their intimate relationship progressed slowly but their emotional connection grew organically as their relationship evolved from boss/employee to friends and then finally to lovers. Their chemistry from the beginning was delicious but once the sexy times kicked in, Yowzaaaaaa. I loved (seems I keep on gushing) how nothing was rushed and I believed each stage of their relationship.

Another star of the show was Billy, Asa’s son. Billy is a cheeky little thing and connects with Jude right away. It was sweet to see that side of Jude and Asa with Billy. Being a parent of a little one that rocks the terrible twos daily, I usually stay away from books with young kids because mental breaks from real life are needed to save my sanity. However, I really enjoyed the sweetness and humor that he brought to the story.

So with all this gushing why not 5 stars? Gabe and Dylan still hold the number one spot for my heart within this series. Jude drove me a tad bit crazy at times with his inner monologue of want a relationship but I can’t. I understood his reasoning but wished that thought train wasn’t so frequent. I still love him though.

Asa and Jude got their HEA and we were given an epic sugary sweet high. Ahhh the epilogue....pure sugar, not the knock off low calorie crap but the real shit we use in the country for our sweet teas. So Good.

Just in case it isn't clear, Loved it. Loved Asa and Jude. Loved the secondary characters (especially Peggy). Love Lily Morton. Love this series. Definitely recommended.

"Love is simple. Humans are complicated.”

P.S. I love Henry too...*hint* *hint* Henry is also a GINGERRRRR *twirls* I'll wait not so patiently for his story. *stalks Lily again*

Optimist ♰King's Wench♰ - 5 Hearts

You know those book experiences where from the start you can't stop smiling? That was me from the start, a déjà vu of Rule Breaker, so I completely agree with Lost about this author now moving into auto-buy territory. I found myself, yet again, having separation anxiety from Asa and Jude just as I did with Gabe and Dylan. So as soon as I finished it I immediately went to read the extra on her website and here I sit still feeling the loss. Lily Morton sprinkled her sparkledust again.

I think what makes her characters so special is their accessibility, relatability. Despite both Asa and Jude having somewhat posh jobs (actor and model) they are two simple men who are trying to traverse life's obstacles and tribulations all while believing they'll never have what they most want: someone to share their life. They've both tried and failed and are set on traveling light from here on out. Not that either are dour or forlorn, quite the contrary.

Asa is a big lumbersexualized un with a man bun... wait. I need a minute. 😍 to the 🌑 and 🌎 Sorry. I digress. Where was I? Oh yeah, he's got a larger than life personality that draws people in and puts them at ease. People want to be around him so his house is always full and loud. Jude is younger with a sharp wit, enough snark and sass to rival Deadpool (minus the guns and killing, avocado face and stuff) and fiercely loyal. I was smitten with both of them, particularly the correspondence at the beginning of each chapter courtesy of Jude.

Jude's been hired as Asa's assistant despite him being a "vapid, air headed model" and makes it his personal mission to prove himself the King of the Nitwits; it was seriously funny too. I chortle-snorted multiple times. But his intelligence shines through and soon Asa is on to the game. Their attraction to each other is palpable and with each evolution of their relationship it grows stronger.

Several of my buttons were pushed when it came to Asa and Jude: age difference, size difference, they're both loud, uninhibited, raw and tend to be messy during the sexy times and they're desperate for each other every. single. time.

Even in a semi-public place. Ripped shirts, missing buttons, hair askew, still a lil sweaty, beard burn... #deceased

Their chemistry and the evolution of their relationship drew me in and didn't let go, still hasn't let go to be honest. Even the conflict was believable and, thankfully, short-lived. All this along with the fantastic secondary characters-Billy, Peggy, Dylan, Gabe, Henry-just... made me feel good; it's chicken soup for the heart, even Amos and his tiny black cloud.

If you want a feel good read/series look no further than this one and now I can't wait to see who Lily Morton will make me form an yet another possibly strange, possibly unhealthy attachment to in the next one. Fingers crossed it's Henry.

Guest Review: Bleeding Like Me by Riley Parks

BEAUTIFUL CONTRADICTION

He didn't paint people; the curves of their bodies and angles of their faces never interested him as much as cityscapes. The circumstances of his life had compelled him to create new worlds that he could get lost in rather than reflect the features of the people he ran from. He constructed buildings from their foundations, making them taller and stronger than he was. He adorned the edifices with countless windows, always left open or cracked so hope could pour in and fears could seep out. Tree lined streets reminded him how to breathe, pumping oxygen through the atmosphere, off the canvas, and into his lungs.

He didn't paint people until the day he no longer desired the anonymity of his cities. The streets didn't feel like his escape anymore, not like him. Cerulean skies gave way to pale blue eyes and bus routes to pink pouts. Evan didn't paint people until he painted Jackson.

So this is going to be an unpopular review and really going against what seems like everyone else. So please, do not discard this book because of me, because most people seems to love it. I just couldn't and that's all on me.

There are a few things that rub me the wrong way and many of them were in this book. Let's start with the opening of the book. Two things that puts me off are; starting in the middle (or beginning/end) of a sex scene. Unless the MC is a sex worker of some kind this is just so unnecessary. Second is finding yourself in the middle of an action scene before you've been introduced to the characters. This book sadly starts with the second option, so we immediately get off on the wrong foot.

Then I just found myself rolling my eyes and forcing myself to read line by line. Not page to page, which you can force yourself through a lot. No, I struggled with each line. It was just the general feeling that the book evoked. Like I was reading about teenage wannabe tough guy, the whole "I'm too cool for my own good" mentality. And that really gets my back up. Add in the gang names and I was done.

These are all my personal feelings, and you should not discard the book because of them. Please, if the book sounds interesting to you, form your own decision and go from there.

Review: NineStar Press 2017 Holiday Series by Various Authors - Pt. 2

Joshua just wants to be alone. Happy holidays be damned; the last place he wants to be is at a New Year’s Eve party surrounded by overly jolly friends. After a breakup with his boyfriend, Clay, he’s having a hard time watching other people be merry when all he wants is to drown himself in booze.
If it wasn’t for a promise to two dear friends, he’d have been home on his couch watching the least festive thing possible. Instead, he’s got to deal with flamboyant Desi flirting up a storm with him. Only Desi has a past too, and his own pain, as well as a bit of unsolicited advice for Joshua that could turn his bleak night into a bright future.
5 Hearts
Sometimes it's impossible to see what is in front of our noses. This short story is a reminder to not take our loved ones for granted, even if our intentions are good.

Joshua is a hard worker, too hard really, but it isn't until Clay leaves him that he realises his priorities may be a little skewed. A celebration, a party is the last place he wants to be, but a promise is a promise and he's not a complete arsehole!

Desi seems like an unlikely ally, but he has the benefit of hindsight to share with Joshua. He may get right on Joshua's wick, but under the mask is a whole lot of pain and an unlikely unlikely source of wisdom.

This was a story that makes the reader question their priorities and reconsider their actions. Told through the hope of a new year and new start, I found this a delightful read.

Agent Azzerare and the black market criminal known as Vulpe meet once a year every holiday season to collaborate on certain secret missions. Azzerare is less than enthusiastic when Management first suggests it; Vulpe is amoral, self-serving, and criminally inclined—everything Azzerare stands against. But as the years pass and the missions continue, Azzerare sees a new side of Vulpe: someone loyal, clever, and willing to risk his life to save Azzerare’s. Azzerare must decide how he feels about his partner—and if it’s love, he has to ask himself whether he’s willing to risk his career to pursue it, because an emotionally compromised agent is a dead one in Management’s eyes.

"If you're dead when I get back, I'll kill you myself."
A secret agent/sniper story may not seem the most Christmassy theme around but this is one of my favourite seasonal short stories.

I liked, no I loved, the chemistry between Azzerare and Vulpe. The dynamic between them was second to none. It sparked and was witty and I adored it.

This story was just the right amount of different. Set over a series of Christmas and New Years days, it slowly built up the extraordinary relationship between the two protags.

This managed to be different and it really has been a favourite read of mine.

Ty Hallahan was on a mission: make it home in time for Christmas—or suffer his Irish Catholic mother’s wrath. But thanks to a series of misadventures, his simple four-hour flight has turned into a two-day ordeal. And just as he has almost reached his destination, Ty is stuck once again—and on Christmas Eve, no less.
But maybe Santa has something up his sleeve for Ty? Wandering through the airport terminal, Ty runs into the man he has secretly loved for years. Once Ty’s professor, Dr. Ernesto Goncalves—Dr. G for short—is also stuck for the holidays, and Ty determines to make the most of their time together.

Sometimes Christmas wishes do come true - maybe just not in the when and where one expected!
The chance encounter in this story is as ephemeral as a snowflake but after a run of bad luck that leads to a night neither Ty or Dr G could have foretold, this story sure did make me smile. It doesn't always have to be the big all; the big everything. Sometimes it can be just for right now, for this moment in time. The connection between the two characters was strong and bright, I liked the slight awkwardness their past relationship to each other (student/teacher) dictated as they moved into newer territory. A lovely story that approached Christmas romance in a slightly different way. Recommended.

Attending his daughter’s holiday dance recital should be easy for pro hockey player Patrick Barnes. Showing up in a tutu, however, wasn’t exactly part of the plan. And yet the holidays get even more interesting when he bumps into Lee, the man he let get away years ago.
Ballet instructor Lee can’t believe who just walked into his studio. He also can’t believe how quickly the flare of attraction between he and Patrick resurfaces, despite the years that have gone by since they last spoke.
Once upon a time, they let opportunities get away. Is it possible they’ll now have the chance to pursue the spark that has come back to life after just one conversation?
Holidays are a time for giving, and neither Patrick nor Lee are about to take this particular gift for granted.
4 Hearts
A lovely tale of love refound.

Years have passed since Patrick and Lee missed their opportunity for love. You know the story, wrong time, wrong place. The chance of love slips by, missed due to circumstance and decision. Now though the time is right, and thanks to Patrick's darling daughter a second chance is available.

This story really epitomises the 'things happen for a reason' train of thought. Left to fate, Patrick and Lee certainly gained more than they missed - even though the journey was longer.

I loved this story, I really did. The dynamics between the characters really spark it to life. Jordan was fabulous, she didn't care that her dad was bi and (as is often the case) she could set a good example for many adults out there.

A definite bonus to my Christmas reading.

Working on Christmas Eve—no fun. Working a double shift on Christmas Eve? Even less fun. But working a double shift on Christmas Eve in a hotel with two guests? For Jason Martin, it was a recipe for a long, dull holiday. But then a power outage at the local airport sends a bus filled with people to Jason’s hotel. Alone, Jason not only has to attend to his guests, he has to save Christmas for a group of weary and grouchy travelers. Happily, one of the guests, a Mr. Marino, steps in to lend Jason a hand. Mr. Marino is helpful, handsome, and running right to the top of Jason’s Christmas wish list. But Jason has sworn off hotel hook-ups. And Mr. Marino will be heading out of town the next day, Christmas day. Is it worth getting involved with someone who is only staying for one night?
5 Hearts
Room at the Inn portrays the spirit of family at Christmas time and how important it is, even when stuck far away from home. Jason is a fabulous employee who really puts his guests' needs first. Dedicated to his job he deals ably with an unexpected coachload of people descending on the hotel.

It is Jason who is the heart of this story, who creates the spirit of family I mentioned before. It becomes a home for 24 hours, not a hotel. Mr Marino though, well there is more to him than meets the eye. Whilst at first he seemed like just another guest, albeit one who knows the system and can pitch in to help Jason, there is definitely more to him than meets the eye.

Sure, it was whimsical at times - but I liked that about it. The Hallmark feel of everyone pitching in. This was a gorgeous story with a wonderful feeling of Christmas giving and loving about it. Totally recommended by me.

Guest Review: Bearding the Lion by J. Mercury Jones & Sween McDervish

“How did I get here?” wonders David. “How did this fighter get so far in my head in such a short time?”

David Levy thinks he knows the story when he steps into the Triple Hit Mixed Martial Arts gym to shadow a fighter. But he expected a mean-looking brute, not the painfully handsome, ginger haired hunk Connor Ryan. As the reporter is drawn in he discovers the surprising soft side of the alpha male with the killer fists, as well as an unexpected side of himself. While Connor prepares for the fight of his life, David faces a struggle of a different kind in which his heart and career collide as hard as a punch to the face.

But even if they win their own battles, will they lose each other as a dark secret and a fatal mistake conspire to ruin both lives?

Bearding The Lion is a standalone gay romance short with a HFN and no cliffhanger. It contains mixed martial arts fighting, explicit sex scenes, coarse language and conflicts that may be difficult for some readers. All characters in the book are over eighteen years old.

Reviewer: Shee Reader

The story opens with David (the journalist) arriving at the gym to interview and ‘shadow’ a fighter. Connor Ryan has drawn the short straw as the gym owner’s nephew, who owes the older man a favour or two. The introduction to the characters was interesting if a little clunky. I’m not familiar with MMA gyms but have read plenty of MMA fighter romances!

There is a curious feel as David wrestles with himself in his head (and the POV flipped back and forth which got on my nerves a little) but there was plenty of interest in the story. Connor is closeted and the conflict and hot passion between the two men is pretty tangible at times. This novella packs plenty in to a short page count and kept me turning the page.

This is a nice quick read with a pretty cute HFN ending. The style wasn’t my preference but I’m sure it would appeal to plenty of readers!

I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Prelude to Love by Anne Barwell

Music speaks directly to the heart.

Two very different men face turning points in their lives after the collapse of long-term relationships….

Joel is a music teacher who knows it’s time to forget his ex and move on, while Marcus runs a lawn-mowing business and has come to Wellington to escape the reminders of a recent breakup. Although they’re opposites, when Joel and Marcus connect, their romance has the potential to hit all the right notes.

Too bad neither of them feels ready for new love.

With family and friends in common, dating is risky—things could get messy if it doesn’t work out. The sweet song of possibility draws them to each other, though, and they share a kiss following a Chopin prelude. But it will take some practice and perseverance to find their perfect harmony….

This is a very light read in every way. Light on the romance, light on the drama, light on the character development and light on the intimacy. It’s not a bad book, it’s just so light that I feel like I needed more substance to really enjoy the story.

Joel and Marcus met years ago when Joel’s best friend Darian married Marcus’ sister Ella. Both men had an attraction to the other but both men were in relationships at the time and were respectful of that. Over the years, random encounters and dinners have provided the men to see one another but it’s not until Marcus decides to move his life to Wellington for a fresh start that they begin a friendship.

Told in dual POV’s we know how the men feel about one another from first time Marcus is duped into taking his niece to piano practice with Uncle Joel. Everyone around them has the thought the men would be perfect together but they dance around the attraction for a few weeks until Marcus gets stranded at Joel’s place by coincidence or more so by meddling family.

I like both men but something held me back from being engaged with them as individuals or a couple. Both men come to the relationship with baggage of past lovers and Joel also has the family baggage of how his father treated him when he came out. A few instances of Joel’s mother and sister brought some life into him but I couldn’t connect to Joel nor Marcus enough to buy into their romance.

The small bit of drama with the couple was just that, a bit of drama that they get over quickly and the epilogue was cute but the speech felt forced.

It wasn’t a bad book, just not the fluff that I am used to with the Dreamspun houseline.

As penance for past mistakes in friendship and in love, Blackwelder makes the bold choice to relocate to Fort Felix, a military base on Neptune’s moon, a decision that could end up costing him his life. Once there, he meets: Juan Miguel Arías, to whom he takes an immediate liking; Vernita Burton, a true friend; and the men and women of Brant Squad, a group of lovable losers that he eventually takes under his wing.

Blackwelder is surprised to discover he has something to live for again, but all of that is threatened when war finally arrives on Fort Felix’s doorstep. Can Blackwelder find the hero within in time to save his squad, his planet, and the man he loves?

Chapter One: Out of the Dark

“All right, Jinx Squad, listen up,” said First Lieutenant Robby Macke as he stood before Sergeant Spencer Blackwelder and the other crew members. “As you know, an abandoned Elumerian starship floated into the Barack’s space sector forty-eight hours ago. It’s been subjected to long-range and short-range drone scans, and we know that the propulsion and guidance systems are damaged beyond repair. There are several vacant exterior ports, suggesting the crew evacuated. Zero life signs on board. We are the lucky squad who get to be the first to dock with it. Our mission is to search the vessel, determine its threat level, collect any useful data, and return to the Barack. Any questions?”

“Just one, sir: with those giant sat dishes Miller uses for ears, there’s no need for us to actually dock, is there? He can just conduct an audio scan from here,” said Mudunuri. The other squad members laughed as Miller, the pilot, whipped his head around to shoot Mudunuri a scathing look.

“Is this the comedy hour? Or are we here to do a job?” Blackwelder asked. “Knock it off.”

“Sorry, Sergeant Blackwelder.”

Macke smirked. “Don’t be absurd, Mudunuri; Miller couldn’t possibly pull that scan off from here. He’d need to be, what, at least three clicks closer?”

Miller shook his head from the cockpit. The other soldiers sniggered.

“Lieutenant Abernathy, com check, if you please.”

Abernathy adjusted her headset, then pressed and held a yellow button until it turned green. “This is Jinx Squad on Raider-1 to Barack actual. We’re conducting a com check; do you read, Barack?”

“Raider-1 this is Barack actual, we read you. Coms are go, over,” said a voice over the open channel.

Satisfied, Abernathy slid her hands along the console to a different cluster of brightly lit buttons. “Jinx Squad, internal com check, channel three. Confirm.”

“Coms are go,” they all said in unison. Over her shoulder, Blackwelder could see several lights flash green on Abernathy’s console.

“Coms are go, Lieutenant,” Abernathy said to Macke with a wink.

Raider-1 was a small ship with cramped quarters. There was a cargo hold beneath the floor of the ship, but its capacity was limited, not that they were expecting much of a physical salvage. Four soldiers shared the seating compartment with Blackwelder. Macke stood over the backs of the pilot and Abernathy, talking navigational tactics. They sat close together, their knees touching and occasionally banging into one another as the ship jostled. Several lit panels—some with loose-hanging cables—beeped above their heads. Expecting the atmosphere aboard the Elumerian ship to be completely inhospitable, the Allied Earth soldiers were wearing their space suits, sans helmets, and held their heavy-duty laser rifles at the ready.

The air was rife with tension; they had joked before, but Blackwelder knew it was a weak ploy to cover their mounting fear. None of them had ever stepped foot onto an alien, enemy vessel before. Blackwelder felt the concern himself, of course, but had to master it. Macke might have been the one giving the orders, but Blackwelder knew he’d be the one to keep them on point.

“Don’t forget to breathe, Jinx,” Blackwelder said to them all. “This is nothing more than a standard recon mission. You’ve trained for this.” A couple of them nodded, but they seemed little put at ease by his words. He took a quick look at Macke, though the lieutenant didn’t turn to meet his glance.

“And if any one of you shoots one of your own, I guarantee you you’ll be eating nothing but veg-ox for a week.”

A couple of them chuckled at the comment. “But what if you like veg-ox?” one of them said softly.

“Shut up, DeFrank,” Mudunuri said.

“Target in range, LT. Better get strapped in,” Miller said. On screen, Blackwelder could see a massive vessel that was rounded and bulbous on one end and through the middle, but that tapered off toward the tail. Cascading rows of spikes adorned the middle of the craft on both sides. The spikes, rounded at the edge and faintly glowing from their center, could almost be mistaken for fins. In fact, the whole ship had the look of a mutated whale, which reminded Blackwelder of the aquatic life they’d discovered years ago in some of Earth’s more polluted oceans.

Macke nodded and turned to take his seat, the only available one being next to Blackwelder. Blackwelder looked up at Macke; he kept his expression blank, but inside he was laughing. He could see a moment of nervousness sweep over Macke’s face, but he mastered it immediately and took his seat. Blackwelder couldn’t help himself; he found Macke’s discomfort utterly amusing. Raider-1 docked with the Elumerian ship shortly thereafter.

Macke stood up quickly from his seat and grabbed his helmet “Miller, Abernathy, you stay with Raider-1 and monitor us. Mudunuri, you’re with DeFrank. Pazmiño, you’re with Sergeant. Blackwelder and Wine, you’re with me. We’ll split up, clear the ship section by section, and rendezvous on what we’re eighty-seven percent sure is the bridge. Questions?”

Mudunuri opened and closed his mouth. Blackwelder could see the confusion mounting as he childishly raised his hand. “Uh, sir? Normally in the incursion scenarios, I partner with Pazmiño.”

Jumping to his feet, Blackwelder cut across Macke before he could answer. “This isn’t a scenario, dusties! In live missions, you take the orders given to you.” He took a step closer to Macke and leaned in to whisper: “Though, sir, the familiarity of the old pairings may be an advantage for us in this situation. One less thing for them to think about. Unless there’s a particular reason you want to readjust the teams?”

Macke glanced at Abernathy, who was close enough to overhear them. Her expression was quizzical, as she too seemed to be confused by the sudden change in the lineup.

“Besides,” Blackwelder said, “it will be easier for me to keep you alive if I can watch your back.”

“Yeah, okay,” Macke said impatiently. “Old pairings: Mudunuri/ Pazmiño, DeFrank/Wine, and Wellie, you’re with me. Let’s get in there and get this done, people.”

After too many years of putting his job first, Detective Andreas Ruffner is getting his priorities straight. He’s ready to spend some quality time with his adult kids, not to mention come clean about some things he should’ve told them a long time ago. And introduce them to his partner and boyfriend, Darren Corliss.

But in a heartbeat, a family dinner turns into Andreas’s worst nightmare. When the dust settles, one of his kids is hurt, and the other three have been abducted.

Andreas is going to find his kids, and nothing, not even a broken ankle, is going to stop him. Thank God for his sharp, level-headed partner . . . who has a crisis of his own pulling him away when Andreas needs him the most. As both men try to support—and lean on—each other, they get no closer to finding the kids. And the longer the children are missing, the less likely it is they’ll ever be found.

About the Bad Behavior Series

It’s “hell no” at first sight for newly partnered detectives Andreas Ruffner and Darren Corliss. Darren is too chipper, Andreas is too gruff, and that whole “IA wants me to prove you’re a dirty cop” thing really doesn’t get them off on the right foot.

It doesn’t matter if they like each other. They’re partners and that’s final. Though Andreas is easy on the eyes. And Darren is kind of cute. And . . . okay, maybe they can make this work.

They’d better, because as their cases get more horrifying—and more personal—they’ll have to trust each other with their lives, and with their hearts.

About Cari Z.

Cari Z was a bookworm as a child and remains one to this day. In an effort to combat her antisocial reading behavior, she did all sorts of crazy things, from competitive gymnastics to alligator wresting (who even knew that was legal!) to finally joining the Peace Corps, which promptly sent her and her husband to the wilds of West Africa, stuck them in a hut, and said, "See ya!" She also started writing, because some things she just thought she could do better. She's still climbing that ladder, but can't stop herself from writing, or from sharing what she creates.

Cari enjoys a wide range of literary genres, from the classics (get 'im, Ahab) to science fiction and fantasy of all types, to historical fiction and reference materials (no, seriously, there are so many great encyclopedias out there). She writes in a wide range of genres as well, but somehow 90% of what she produces ends up falling into the broad and exciting category of m/m erotica. There’s a sprinkling of f/m and f/f and even m/f/m in her repertoire, but her true love is man love. And there's a lot of love to go around.

Cari has published short stories, novellas, and novels with numerous print and e-presses, and she also offers up a tremendous amount of free content on Literotica.com, under the name Carizabeth.

Tag Team Review: Song and Key (The Men from GLEN #1) by Alix Bekins and Connie Bailey

So-called monsters won’t hold these spies back!

For two secret agents on a mission to a secluded Romanian village, the toughest fight they face may not be against the folktale monsters lurking in the foggy mountains and old ruins, but against their unlikely attraction to each other.

Keller Key is the top operative at the covert Global Law Enforcement Network—and boy does he know it. Sexy half-Ukrainian, half-Korean Sevastyan Song is a close second. When the agents go undercover to investigate an old friend’s suspicious death, it soon becomes clear something sinister is afoot in the ancient forest and decrepit abbey. If an evil organization doesn’t spell the end of them, the angry locals might. But if they’re going to conquer their enemies, they need to keep their hands off each other and their minds on the case, in a rivals-to-lovers paranormal mash-up that gives new meaning to spy-on-spy action.

Average!

R *A Reader Obsessed* - 3.5 Promising Hearts!

The authors preface this story with the fact that they were inspired by the movie “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and I could totally feel the spirit of it coursing through this with a little bit of Pine & Hardy chemistry from “This Means War” (minus Reese Witherspoon of course).

I will say this. I absolutely love love love the premise. Who doesn’t want to read about two spies at the top of their game, who have a not so little rivalry brewing and a lot of attraction simmering between them? Anyone?? Keller Key is the epitome of brash and impulsive with a sex drive to rival James Bond, and he just loves to push Seva Snow’s buttons. On the other hand, Snow is more reserved and by the book, and loves to make sure Key’s actions never seem to make him sweat nor bat an eyelash.

Know that there’s a ton of banter between these two as they investigate their boss’s friend’s suspicious death. It was fun, it was smart, but perhaps a bit too much? Song and Key bicker a lot. It’s definitely a you’re infuriatingly annoying that drives me to drink but are quite attractive I can’t seem to get you off my mind I want to punch you in the face throw you up against a wall and ravish you sort of dynamic. *snort*

Also know that this reads as straight contemporary where the paranormal aspect is highly suspect and mostly found to be a farce, but then there’s certain elements thrown in that make you question reality… and the end result?? These two come out of their mission irrevocably changed and wholeheartedly all in with each other.

This could’ve been waaaaay more smexy than it was, and I’m a bit peeved with the fade to black scene because that was completely unnecessary. Just saying. *grumbles*

However again, a very promising start. I’m definitely intrigued and I really look forward to what these two authors will bring next to this series regarding the future adventures and crazy antics of snarky sexy, top notch agents Snow and Key! Write faster, please!

Thank you to the author/publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review

Sara - 4.5 Hearts

What a fun start to a new series and what a great introduction to this amazing, hilarious, and sexy couple/partners that are Agents Song and Key.

This was fun. I love it when a romance has two characters who seemingly annoy the hell out of one another and love to pick on each other because you know they like one another. It’s the quintessential playground rule of being mean to who you like but with these two, the banter they share is so far from being mean. It’s fun and it’s how they communicate with one another.

Though not normally partners, after finishing the last mission they were assigned on together, Agents Keller Key and Sevastyan Song are tasked with a non-mission from their boss to investigate the mysterious death of his friend in Romania. Neither man is happy about being paired with the other, but they go about what they are asked to do and get to work on what is supposed to be a vacation.

Yeah, I am going to say that there is a partner/couple that tends to creep into the subconscious whenever I read a new romance with a duo that starts as unwilling partners and ends up lovers. It’s hard not to compare so I let the emotions come and let them go. You can’t compare the two so just don’t. Okay. It makes reading this much more fun.

So, Keller and Seva are on their way to investigate this mysterious friend’s death and we get a whole lot of banter from them that makes me smile. These two are fun and the UST is buried so deep they don’t recognize it and I was waiting for them to explode when they finally did. I won’t say if there were explosions because there are a few elements that pop up in the story that make the relationship work and one word that is used *ahem* - four letters that rhyme with late but starts with an M- *ahem* that had me onboard and fast.

Being along with Seva and Keller when they first get to their room and realize there is only one bed was so much fun. Waking up with them the following morning gave me hope and then there is a hike with creepy fog, a possible vampire, maybe werewolves and that word again that had me ready for some serious acknowledgements.

They mystery of the fog and the friends’ death had a touch of the Scooby gang to it but this book is FUN so it fit. I loved how Key and Song fell into their relationship, how Key reacted when he realized the traditional villains plan and how Song was ready to fight ancient evil to not lose Keller.

I will say there is a bit of head hopping in this story that had me confused about who was doing what and sometimes the tense would switch but it’s not the first time a book has done that and yet I kept going and still loved the heck out of it. I mean, how could you not love these two as they bicker, flirt and fall for each other all while trying to figure out who done it and if what they see is real?

Goodness. There is stuff in this I can’t spoil so I will cut this review short. I loved this story and really hope the Men from GLENN get another mission because there is so much to explore with what was gained from both Agents Song and Key while in Romania.

Guest Review: Will & Patrick's Endless Honeymoon (Wake Up Married #7) by Leta Blake

Genius brain surgeon Patrick McCloud never thought he'd fall in love, let alone get married. He and Will Patterson are two years overdue for their honeymoon, and although romance doesn't come naturally to Patrick, he's determined to make it perfect.

Will works himself to the bone helping others and dealing with his family, who bring the drama nonstop. A tropical getaway without the usual shenanigans is just what the doctor ordered. But can Will's family leave them in peace? Knowing the Patterson-Molinaro clan, it's not likely...

Will and Patrick's Endless Honeymoon by Leta Blake continues the soapy, sexy fun of the original six part Wake Up Married serial. In Healing, South Dakota, marriage is never boring!

Gotta Love It

I somehow missed all the previous installments of this series somewhere along the line and damn! I didn't know what I was missing out on. These books were fabulous and the latest one took the cake.

I love offbeat MCs and this book (and series) probably has one of the best ones I've ever read. The author did a fantastic job portraying all of Patrick's quirks and idiosyncrasies without losing the heart and emotion he showed to very few. His other-ness was nothing short of genius.

And Will, poor little Guglielmo with his cray-cray freaking family. I mean ... whoa! He's a brick-shithouse with a heart of gold. Super sweet. Super real. Just plain out super. These two guys are like polar opposites in temperament. I could see the possibilities from the beginning, but don't be surprised if you can't right away. By the time we get to this book, there's obviously no question they belong together, but it was a little tricksy at the start.

tricksy

The chemistry is off the charts, the relationship is awwww-inspiring and uber-hot at the same time. You get feels, you get heat, you get more feels and more heat. The plot is believable. The character development is spectacular. The relationship feels real to me as a reader; I can imagine these guys in real life and that makes me happy, happy, happy.

There's dirty talk. Dirrrrrrty talk. Holy shit, there's dirty talk. And not the icky porn kind either. This is the kind of dirty talk that raises the temperature, like, 100 degrees and makes you melt wherever you're sitting. It's the kind of dirty talk that makes you want to get horizontal naked somewhere ... immediately. Mm-hmm. Dirrrrrty.

so turned on dirrrrty

Rarely does anything make me get hot under the collar anymore. Desensitization? Too many overused tropes? Too much Groundhog Day in bedroom scenes? Might be a little bit of all of that, I guess. That is sooooo not the case here. Will and Patrick push my buttons like Ella Frank's Tate and Logan push my buttons. I mean phew!

The sex is hot. H-O-T. It's dirty, it's free, it's uninhibited, it's just ... orgasmically good. I don't know what else to say. Read 'em one-handed and weep. That's it. That's all I got. Read. Them. One-handed. And. Weep. The end.

Blog Tour + Giveaway: Rebel (415 Ink #1) by Rhys Ford

Rhys Ford is in the clubhouse and taking over the reins! Join her on the Rebel (415 Ink) tour and read today's exclusive content! Plus, you can enter in her giveaway to win a $20 gift certificate! Good luck!

Take it away, Rhys! (Happy New Year!)

Hello and welcome to the 415 Ink: Rebel Blog Tour. I’d like to say I’m Rhys Ford, your host but the truth is, I am merely a stealer of space and time. Their space, your time. BUT I hope I can make it worth your while.
Because dudes, I’ve got a book I want to tell you about.

If you know me at all, you know I have a few tattoos and well, have a hardcore love for art. Skin art to be exact. It’s a difficult medium and well, there’s a culture surrounding it as well. Being a tattoo artist is more than a profession, it truly is a calling, or it is for the great artists, the ones who push at the boundaries of skin and ink and do fantastical things on a living canvas.

The 415 Ink series hopefully will capture a part of that culture and also showcase five foster brothers who have made their own family. Set in San Francisco, I will introduce you to each of the five in a series of books where they find love and in some cases, their true path in life. The first, Rebel, is about Gus, the true middle kid in the bunch, and the man whose love he’d won, lost and hopefully will love again.

As all of my blog tours, I want to present you with something unique at each stop as well as a giveaway. So, for each blog, I will give you a story (or part of a story as I’ve split most into two pieces) about a tattoo… involving a character from one of my series. Check out the blog stop list to get a sneak peek at the characters!

The giveaway? You’ll be entering to win a $20USD gift certificate to the online retailer of your choice!

Now, onto the tales of tattoos and where you can find Rebel, on sale December 29th through Dreamspinner, Amazon and other fine bookstores.

Los Angeles — Cole McGinnis and Ichi Tokugawa
Part One of Two

“I thought this was supposed to be a simple job!” Cole yelled over his shoulder. “Go left! We can get some cover in those bushes!”

When dealing with my older brother Cole the phrase hindsight is 20-20 always comes to mind. The simplest things always seem to go wrong and for some reason, either a gun, knife, or fist fight breaks out in his immediate vicinity. Sometimes, it is even a combination of two or more of those events.

In this case, it was a brawl but the evening was young yet so there was still time to add more elements to the fuckery Cole delivered us into.

Technically, he was right. It was supposed to be a simple job. I know because I was the one who hired him to do it.

“We can’t —” I began to yell at him, but he’d already made the turn and we plunged through a nest of tangled hedges, trying to get away from the small mob of angry Japanese elders chasing us.

There was no talking to Cole when he was in full samurai mode, or at least that is how I thought of it. If he’d been pure Japanese and not gay, my father would have taken him into the Tokugawa fold and made Cole his heir. He was everything I was not, something that became more and more apparent the longer I got to know him. There was a fatalistic elegance to his desire for justice and truth, an unwillingness to turn his back on a tenuous situation even though it meant he could come to some harm.

When I’d first met our eldest brother, Mike, he told me our middle brother led with his heart instead of his head. Since my first impression of Mike was of a man who took precautions and planned out every situation down to the last detail, I took his words with a grain of salt — another Cole-appropriate saying — and expected our shared brother to be simply a bit more relaxed in nature.

What Mike meant to say was Cole Kenjiro McGinnis was bat shit fucking nuts and would run into a burning building if someone even whispered there might be a kitten inside.

I knew that. I hadn’t believed it until the day someone began shooting into a crowd of people on a Los Angeles street and my beloved, crazy older brother ran towards the gunfire.

My life up until that point had been exciting and risky — or so I thought — but in a blink of an eye and without any warning, I found myself thrust into Cole’s world and it was terrifying. I’d never tasted fear before. I’d felt it. I’d had its sharp fingers run over my skin but the astringent bitterness of its kiss in my mouth was something I’d never imagined. It paralyzed me. I was man enough to admit it afterwards but in that moment, all I could think of was… I didn’t want to lose my brother.

That’s when I discovered that Cole had a greater calling… had a greater courage than I did.

He was also foolish, reckless and didn’t have a single scrap of self-preservation in his entire body, but he faced down monsters and demons for the people who couldn’t… even when he didn’t have to.

But we were both in agreement that when faced with a band of enraged, mostly-retired yakuza from Kyoto who’d come over from Japan for a funeral it was better to run than reason things out. Considering the grieving widow had led us to the back room with the intent on showing me the deceased man’s antique tattooing implements and had been surprised to find his friends gathered around his recently de-coffined body laid out on a table, Cole had been remarkably calm. Even when the yakuza grew incensed when the dead man’s widow told them we were there to buy his entire private collection despite their insisting she had no right to sell them off.

Cole’s Japanese extended to knowing what kind of ramen to order and how to pronounce our various names, so he stood by blissfully unaware when the yakuza began to threaten to use our guts to strangle us with and only seemed to know something had gone wrong when I backed up into him and told him to run.

My brother… he is very good at adapting to changing situations and facing down death without panicking.

He didn’t ask questions when one of them threw a punch at him or blinked when another drew out a small, sharp blade and tried to gut me. Cole realized we were blocked off from the door we’d come in, so he’d picked up a chair and threw it through a picture window to give us an exit and told me to hurry up. There were no recriminations or blame. Just a casual flat out run through the twisted streets above Little Tokyo.

I appreciated his restraint especially since I’d been the one to put us in the middle of a make shift abattoir while the former criminals were gathered around their friend’s embalmed corpse, discussing how they would skin him to preserve the decades of intricate tattoos.

“I think we are behind a school or something,” Cole said, not even panting hard despite the full trot he’d fallen into. I knew his stamina came from the miles he ran with my husband Bobby as well as the regular boxing sparring matches they had every week, but I still hated him for it. Grabbing my arm, Cole yanked me through a slender break in a standard of juniper trees. “Ichi, this way.”

“Do you even know where you are going?” I was trying not to breathe heavily, but I needed to take a moment to suck some air into my lungs. Once again, I made a promise to myself to stop smoking kreteks and maybe work out a bit more, but I knew it was a lie.

“Sure.” As in all things, Cole sounded confident.

I knew this was also a lie.

Especially since we’d made a wrong turn at some point and the sidewalk ended.

We, however, were going too fast to stop.

There was something about falling twenty feet at a dead run. The momentum we picked up was fierce, and the hill was a sharp, unexpected catastrophe. One moment I had solid ground beneath my sneakers, and the next I was flying.

I was airborne for about three… maybe four glorious seconds when gravity snatched me and threw me down into the ground.

That was when I discovered Los Angeles’ highway landscaping crews did not clear all of the rocks from the ground before they rooted ice plants into the soft soil.

We landed hard, rolling over slick, spongy succulents and my spine felt every jut of rock embedded in the soil on the way down. Luckily for us, the hill ended in a gradual slope and we tumbled onto a broad sidewalk lining one of the busier Los Angeles avenues. A truck’s horn blared in my ear, but I didn’t care because the ground was not moving beneath my back and despite the aches and pains in my limbs, I was just glad to be alive.

It also seems like the yakuza had stopped chasing us because I couldn’t hear any Japanese other than the swearing going on in my own head.

“You alive?” My brother asked from his prone position next to me. He began to sit up then probably decided it would be too much effort because he lay back down with a groan. “I’m going to take a minute.”

“I’m fine. Just … bruised probably,” I wheezed out, staring up at the streetlamp directly above us. “Baka, after all of that, I didn’t get the dead guy’s antique tattoo instruments. I was supposed to meet his widow.”

“Well, if it was that rolled up bundle of cloth on the table next to his leg, I’ve got that in my jacket.” Cole leaned his head back, meeting my eyes. “And if it’s not, then I owe the guy I kicked in the balls to let go of it a really huge apology.”

Rebel: 415 Ink, Book One
The hardest thing a rebel can do isn’t standing up for something — it’s standing up for himself.

Life takes delight in stabbing Gus Scott in the back when he least expects it. After years of running from his past, present and the dismal future every social worker predicted for him, Karma delivers the one thing Gus could never—would never—turn his back on; a son from a one-night stand he’d had after a devastating break-up three years ago.

Returning to San Francisco and to 415 Ink, his family’s tattoo shop, gave him the perfect shelter to battle his personal demons and get himself together… until the firefighter who’d broken him walked back into Gus’s life.
For Rey Montenegro, tattoo artist Gus Scott was an elusive brass ring, a glittering prize he hadn’t the strength or flexibility to hold onto. Severing his relationship with the mercurial tattoo artist hurt but Gus hadn’t wanted the kind of domestic life Rey craved, leaving Rey with an aching chasm in his soul.

When Gus’s life and world starts to unravel, Rey helps him pick up the pieces, and Gus wonders if that forever Rey wants is more than just a dream.
