Shadows and Silk
by Tom Webb

The setting sun seemed to cast shadows in every corner of the room, and I didn’t immediately see Miguel standing near the windows. His olive skin seemed to blend in with the fading light, but when I caught sight of him wearing the Cartagena engagement necklace, my breath caught in my lungs.

“Aren’t you going to finish unlacing me?” His voice was as soft as I imagined his skin to be.

Stepping forward, I reached out to him, then hesitated. “Does this mean you accept my suit?”

Warm laughter softened something clenched in my chest. “Silly man, I’ve been yours since you kicked Ramon Navarre in the knee in second grade for pushing me down and getting mud on my shirt.”

“I love you, Miguel.”

He turned, his garment falling to the floor. “Shut up and kiss me, mi amor.”

We unicorns thank our Godfather, Tom Webb, heartily! Let him know in the comments what you thought!

Author Bio:

T.A. Webb is the writing name for the Mean Old Bear That Could. He's worked with people living with HIV/AIDS and with children in the foster care system for over twenty years, and takes the smaller pay for the chance to make a difference for those who can't help themselves. After hours, he's the proud single papa of two rescuer dogs, was born and raised in Atlanta, where he still lives, and is a pretty darned good country cook.

His sister taught him to read when he was four, and he tore his way through the local library over the next few years. Always wanting more, he snuck a copy of The Exorcist under his parents' house to read when he was eleven and scared the bejesus out of himself. Thus began a love affair with books that skirt the edge, and when he discovered gay literature, he was hooked for life.

  9. I enjoy this author's work - only just bought the City Knight series a couple of weeks ago and read The Broken Road Cafe two days ago - looking forward to reading Brothers In Arms.
But it has taken me a while to get over His Name Was Harley Manfield *sob*.
This story sounds good - adding it to my wishlist.
