Review: Midsummer Nights (Bad Fairies #1) by T.J. Land

Newly arrived at Oberon’s court, Puck has already made a name for himself through his wit, his wiliness, and his very nice legs. But he’s not interested in the envy of his peers; what he’s really after is the attention of the Lord of All Fairies himself. Seducing the monarch will surely win him power and prestige, provided he can withstand Oberon’s famously bad temper.

Soon, though, Puck realizes that Oberon’s belligerent façade is just that, and his schemes of strategic seduction are submerged beneath budding infatuation. Now, Puck will have to muster all his tricks, from sonnets to the lash, to win the fairy king’s heart – a task which becomes substantially more difficult when Oberon discovers that Puck has been consorting with mortals…

Puck is servant to Oberon, King of the fairies, and is set on winning over his master.

His master is a grumpy fairy and is particularly upset about being forced to stay in an unhappy marriage. The king's got a temper and, apparently, he's not adverse to using it.

Things get physical between Puck and Oberon pretty quickly and I assumed things would progress nicely from there.

I was wrong. Remember that temper I mentioned earlier? Mhmm. Oberon has one and when he was mad at Puck, he let him have it. And not just with words, he was physical, too. I'm sorry, but that's abuse. Both verbal and physical. Oberon's sadistic urges turned sexual towards the end, and that I was (mostly) OK with. But I couldn't get past his initial abuse of Puck, especially because I don't completely buy that Puck was into the "consensual" beatings in the end. I think it was something he put up with in order to please his master and that's not something I can agree with.

I think this story had potential. The setting and world building was fun. There was a neat twist in the end that I liked. The story was really short, so If I hadn't had such a dislike to Oberon right from the beginning I would have enjoyed it much more. I don't think I had enough time to warm up to him. The story was over before I had a chance.

Review: There's Something About a Kilt by Schuyler L'Roux

It’s a hellaciously hot day in Minneapolis and all Thom wants to do is enjoy his ice cream and forget about the stacks of essays waiting for him back in his stifling apartment. Until he meets Gerry, a kilted, tattooed Welshman. The conversation is smooth and the attraction immediate, but Gerry is only in town for the night and isn’t down for anything quick and forgettable. When they meet again, hours later, Gerry knows there’s something in the air and all bets are off. Including his kilt.

Well, there certainly is something about a kilt. Because, damn. Look at that cover!

Thom is enjoying his ice cream, minding his own business when he spots a hottie with a kilt, Gerry, walking by. They talk, they flirt, Thom invites him out later, but Gerry declines. He's leaving and doesn't want only a one night stand.

But Gerry shows up anyway, testing fate to see if him and Thom would be brought together one more time. When they do meet a second time, well... Gerry doesn't believe in chance. He thinks he and Thom can have something more, even if he's leaving soon. Then all hot shenanigans ensue.

There's Something About a Kilt is a sexy good time. It's mostly erotic, with a little but of plot. But I really liked the little bit of plot there was. Especially Gerry. I liked his view on fate. If him and Thom were brought together twice, he wasn't going to fight it. Maybe they could be more? Worth a shot.

There isn't an HEA and barely even a HFN. But with short stories like this, I'm OK with that. I don't want something unbelievable and wrapped up with a perfect bow. They met, had fun... now let's see where it goes.
“'Not the end?'
'Not even close.'"
Hopefully, there's more of these two. While I was happy with the ending, I would definitely love to see where it goes from here.

Review: Three by R.J. Scott

Mark is finding his way in life after six years in the army. He's always wanted to write scripts for TV, and for one show in particular, Tomorrow's Game.

Half in lust already with the lead actor Zach, he is shocked when he ends up in Zach's bed. Not just that, but Zach's co-star Rob is part of the package.

Is this just hot sex or can two become three?

An erotic MMM short from RJ Scott, based on a previous story from 2010. Rewritten, re-edited and re-released.

I'm going to be completely honest here: I read ‘Three’ for the sex. In my defense, it’s been a while since I’ve read a hot threesome, and I can count on RJ Scott to deliver in the sex scene department.

Recently out of the army, Mark Gatlin decides to take a shot at his dream of becoming a screenplay writer. Mark decides to visit the set of one of TV’s biggest shows with his script in hand, where he gets to meet Zach Cassidy and Rob Kelly, the show’s stars and objects of his deepest fantasies. Things start looking even better when the three of them land in bed together.

When I saw that RJ Scott had written an MMM book, I had to get my hands on it. This short story flows much as you would expect it to. We’ve got a meet cute, some flirting and bonding, a growing attraction, and then three men engaging in some lovin’.

And it was hot. You can’t go wrong with three big guys going at it. The bit of kink was an unexpected bonus. I’m not going to say no to some bondage.

While ‘Three’ is mostly erotica, there is a bit of angst and relationship development at the tailend. I can’t decide whether that’s a positive or not. On the one hand, the touch of romance was nice. On the other hand, romance and erotica don’t always pan out well together in short stories.

In this case, inserting the romance made me want to know more about how Mark, Zach, and Rob got to a point where their relationship worked, which left me just a tad unsatisfied.

Overall, ‘Three’ is a quick, sexy, and enjoyable read. If you’re looking for an easy filler read and are a fan of RJ Scott, I’d recommend it.

Review: Triad by Remy St. Lawrence

Six months after the breakup of his relationship, Rex has yet to move on. New in town, he is alone at a bar, and for the first time, Rex is tempted by a heterosexual couple. As the centre of Robert and Ilham’s attention, Rex realizes he is on the verge of a new experience.

True story!

I read it twice. Once sober and once... not as sober. A little experiment that I had hopes of bringing clarity to this story, but science failed me.

It brings me no joy to criticize a first time author but this was too much for me.

As the air stewed, it would only be a matter of time before the mercury inhibition dipped.

Triad is the tale of one man's experience with an established couple and, coincidentally, his first experience with a lady garden. I'm fairly certain there will not be a repeat performance either. I'm not sure if it's meant to be titillating or more of case study. What I can tell you is the use of language is strange and the undercurrent of surrealism is bizarre.

We lay in dermal gradation:  Robert, Ilham, me.

I think the surrealism is by design undoubtedly to add interest, but it kind of makes Rex seem a wee bit psychotic and it put me off. Is it a dream? Does he suffer from amnesia? Is it déjà vu? Under the right circumstances this sort of ambiguousness can and has worked for me, but here I perceived it as a contrived plot device.

He came up after a few moments, crawling over her like a lustful salamander...

From her easy peaks, he migrated south, planting kisses along the way until he reached the center of her earth.

That combined with the purple drivel was the death knell for me.

He removed his hand after a time and replaced it with his face, lapping the rain from my shaft and balls, flicking his tongue at Ilham's swollen petite nob.

I would actually recommend this to others just to see if they have the same reactions as I did or if I'm in the 'you just don't get it' category.

NSFW Review: Wrestling For Top Part 1 by Jack Stevens

Handsome wrestler Terry ‘Kid Bacchus’ Ryan is popular with the fans in the ring and with the men in the bedroom. But faced with dwindling audiences and fierce competition in Britain, Terry gambles on a tour of Europe with ‘uncle’ Doug, three wrestling buddies, and an unexpected sponsor, the masked wrestler Johnny Deuce.

Abroad, Terry and his team score on the mats and between the sheets, catching the eye of influential wrestler/promoter Yves Montaigne, who is eager to make Terry a star and lover.

But even as success beckons, Terry is drawn into a world of dark and dangerous sexual fantasies, and to save himself and his wrestling family, Terry must find out who his real enemies are. Are they linked to the death of his father years ago? What part did Doug play in that? And above all, who really is the man behind the Johnny Deuce mask?

Wrestling for Top is an erotica serial in seven parts.

Ding Ding Ding! Stroke fic winner!

This was such a hodge podge of things I enjoy from Tom of Finland and Naked Combat to Fight Club with maybe a dash of Ray Donovan thrown in to class up the joint, minus all those blasted weighty topics. Wrestling for Top isn't PWP, but it's also not meant to be taken seriously. I have a feeling the rest of the series is going to involve a fuck ton of man meat, probably some questionable choices and maybe a wrestling championship.

If you're looking for a book that's profound, this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for a book that's DEEP, this could be a book for you. If you don't enjoy a lot of sweaty, hairy men fucking without feelings, this isn't the book for you. If you're someone who enjoys bears plowing horny, hungry twinks, come sit next to me and let's talk about all the monster cocks that rain come in this novelette.

What I appeals to me so much about Tom of Finland is how exaggerated everything is-the cocks are monstrous, the come geysers, the men are beefcakes and there seems to be an undercurrent of power dynamics wrapped up in a leather clad, hyper-sexual, homoerotic fantasy. What Jack Stevens has done is translated that fantasy to the page.

His version of that fantasy is set in the exaggerated and oftentimes comically theatrical world of pro wrestling. There are two competing promotors-POWer Productions where Terry 'Kid Bacchus' Ryan is the star and Critical MASS Promotions who are luring away all of POWer's wrestlers. They're also trying to woo The Kid, but he is loyal to POWer mostly because his uncle runs it. I think. It's too early to tell what motivates him aside from his cock. There is a hint of a backstory involving his father who was a wrestler himself as was his uncle and there might be A BIG SECRET. All of the "adults" in this story struck me as burned out, a bit desperate and would probably sell their first born for a fifth of Jack.

Mansfield is MASS's owner and cast as the villain. He's likely running an underground Fight Club/Naked Kombat and The Kid is a hot commodity that no doubt would be lucrative draw. Plus "The Kid" is packing a python in his unitard and he is not afraid of using it either. Or being used for that matter. I like em flexible. I also like how much Kid likes himself.

I really could quote the hell out of this thing, but I'll limit myself to two:

With a savage thrust of his hips, the man drives his scimitar-like cock up and in. Mario howls, and all around them there is an answering sound, almost as feral, from the assembled men, as each one vicariously shares the pleasure of shafting the beaten, beautiful boy.

Publicly vanquishing the fallen by monster cock with only spit for lube? Yes, please.

"My God, that is a great arse," he breathed.

"Fucking well fuck it then!" Mark cried out.

It could've used an edit to avoid moments like, "unconsciously Doug ran his head over his shaven head", and the telling of it in certain points gets a little difficult to follow, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this fun romp and will likely continue on with the series in the future. If for no other reason than to see if there is an ultimate fighting orgy.

Please baby jeebuz.

Recommend for those who enjoy veiny clubs, fuck muscles, jackhammering, oily and/or shiny bears, twinks and face fucking.

Review: Be My Valentine, Sir by Elizabeth Coldwell

Jason has planned a perfect night in — good food, fine wine, a sensual shared bath and a naughty BDSM scene. But when his master, Adrian, goes into the office instead, Jason won’t be taken for granted any longer. Discovering a dominant side he never knew he possessed, he’s about to give Adrian a Valentine’s treat he’ll never forget.

My penchant for meaningful kink is the worst kept secret on the interwebs. I'm always looking for authors that will blow my doors off, so chances are if there's a BDSM tag that's usually enough of an enticement which is what brought me to this series. What I'm looking for is substance but in the absence of that I'll take OTT, possibly hella fucked up, great characterizations, snappy dialogue OR smutterrific PWP. So many chances to impress me.

Unfortunately... none of that was on offer here.

What was on offer was a whole lotta lead up to a whole lotta fizzle. Odd fizzle that didn't jizzle or sizzle for that matter.  Too much time was wasted on minute details that didn't contribute to the plot or infuse depth to the characters.

It would probably be best to read the predecessor (Happy Christmas, Sir) prior to reading this to get a sense of these characters and because those events are referenced here. But in a nutshell, Adrian and Jason are in a committed D/s relationship. Jason had more experience with kink when they got together and, evidently, Adrian has expressed some desire to put the shoe on the other foot, so to speak.

I actually do think this is a good idea. If you're going to dole out a beating then it's not a bad idea to know what it feels like. What I don't see happening is having your sub do it. That doesn't work for me. Don't muck with the power dynamics. The whole story started to go sideways from then on for me.

Jason has big plans for Valentine's Day that Adrian's ruined by working! That bastard. Yes, the word brat came to mind which was another step in the wrong direction for me. So he mounts his Schwinn armed with Adrian's Valentine's Day "present" and peddles for his office. SPOILER ALERT: the punishment is a spanking. Six whole swats with a paddle. After four Adrian is "writhing, gasping and sobbing" with a rock hard cock, of course. *throws shade*

"Ride the pain," Jason urged him. "Go with it, and it'll turn to pleasure, I promise. That's what makes everything worth it." He caressed Adrian's buttock, savoring the heat given off by the tender flesh. Then he moved his hand lower, wrapping it around Adrian's cock. "Do you feel it?"

*throws ALL THE shade*

Here's the thing IF you're going to role reverse wouldn't you be nervous as a sub punishing your Master and all? And wouldn't the master still pretty much be in charge rather than flipping a switch and becoming "uncharacteristically meek" and falling apart after six swats? To be fair (in a sense) these characters are flat, so I really couldn't say what's right for them one way or another but... something in the milk ain't clean is all I'm saying.

After the spanking they make the seeeeex but I had tapped out by that point and no amount of finesse is going to make the word "channel" sexy. One anemic sex scene does not a stroke fic make, so...not the first time I've struck out with a sexy cover and enticing tags and probably won't be the last.

It is cutesy in a superficial way and if that's your jam, this is a book you'll enjoy.

Review and Excerpt: Wood (Psycop #3.2) by Jordan Castillo Price

Victor Bayne might not be handy when it comes to carpentry, but if there’s one tool he does know how to wield, it’s the tiny metal doohickey that comes with ready-to-assemble furniture from SaverPlus.

The shelves aren’t for the cannery—Vic would never manage to sneak cheap pressboard and veneer past Jacob’s watchful eyes. Jacob’s Uncle Leon, however, is nowhere near as fussy. And since he’s only got one arm, he’ll need help putting together his new treasure.

It’s no surprise to find the instructions baffling and convoluted…but were they always so disturbingly dirty?

This PsyCop interlude is a cute, sexy romp that will delight readers who’ve enjoyed the series through PsyCop #3, Body and Soul.

Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday to you...
Happy Birthday dear Vic...
Happy Birthday to you.

That's right, today is my favourite PsyCop's birthday and he's we're celebrating with Wood, a new short from PsyCop author, Jordan Castillo Price.

Vic is actually putting up furniture of the flat pack variety, it's the kind of furniture making that is right up his street (the only kind he knows how to assemble, he can wield that doohickey like a pro!) No problemo dude... well, it wouldn't be if he wasn't getting distracted by the filthy instructions.

The furniture may be made of pressboard and veneer, but Vic's still contending with wood.

This short is laugh out loud funny, it really is. Vic is so...Vic, and I couldn't love him more. Putting up furniture is supposed to be awkward, but not in this way. To make matters worse, Jacob's uncle is there, ghostly hand and all. What's a psych to do? The dynamics between Jacob and Vic are perfect and I'd absolutely recommend this to all PsyCops fans. And everyone with a filthy sense of humour.

Excerpt:
Here’s the thing about being in a long term relationship. There’s more involved than just inside jokes and shared mortgages, objectionably healthy things in the fridge, or discarded socks that never find the laundry hamper. Back when a horny, shape-shifting, mirror-shattering entity exploded in Jacob’s apartment and left him with nowhere to sleep that night, I’d suggested he stay at my place. And when we outgrew that place, we found a new one. Together.

That fateful decision didn’t just score me a boyfriend. It earned me a family.

It’s not too big, as families go. Jacob has one sister, and she’s always pissed off about something. Her kid is no gem, either. Both parents are still alive, and grandma too, though I think she’s pushing a hundred fifty. But Jacob’s uncle Leon is the one who shared a special bond with him. He’d taken Jacob to his first concert at age twelve: Weird Al Yankovic. He bought Jacob his first soldering gun. Apparently this was a big thing in late 1970’s Wisconsin. He probably would’ve been the one to teach Jacob to drive stick, too, if his right arm hadn’t been torn off in an industrial accident years before.

I like the guy. I may not have the history Jacob’s got with him, but he’s easy to talk to, and he always acts excited to see me. Missing arm or not, he could count on our help to put together his new furniture. No doubt Jacob’s dad could’ve handled it, but it gave us an excuse to drive up for the weekend without centering our trip around seeing Clayton play soccer or looking at Clayton’s latest science diorama or sitting there uncomfortably while Clayton looks daggers at us. Okay, he only does that to me, not his beloved uncle Jacob—but the point is, I was kinda looking forward to being the youngest guy there in the male bonding session for a change.

Leon greeted us at the door with the standard greeting, asking us how the drive was. The missing arm greeted me with a wave. I nodded at them both while Jacob handled the amicable banalities.

I eased past into the living room while Leon launched into a tale about a certain legendary local speed trap. Even though I’d only seen Leon’s place a few times before, the new remodel startled me with its striking difference. Nothing structural had been changed, but the mishmash of furniture styles was gone. Now there was a theme of sorts. Big, inviting leather couch and chairs, and walls painted various coffee colors, and a sleek flatscreen mounted above the mantel. I thought I’d miss the white walls, but with the monochrome muted palette and lack of clutter, there was a warmth and simplicity to the new setup that I liked. Plus, you gotta hand it to someone willing to remodel at his age. It’s pretty optimistic if you ask me.

The only thing left to handle was putting together the bookshelves. My fingers were itching to tackle the massive stack of cardboard boxes marring the interior wall of the living room and get those cluttery books they contained in some kind of order. My actual preference would be to drop them off at the local Goodwill, but I’ve learned to pick my battles.

Review: Memento - audio version - by Jordan Castillo Price, narrated by Gomez Pugh.

Seasons change, and so do fashion trends. But in this heartstring-tugging PsyCop short, what’s beneath the clothes matters most.

Do clothes make the man? Jacob Marks cuts an impressive figure in his tailored suits, but Victor Bayne is another story. Nowadays, Vic does his ghosthunting in off-the-rack blazers, polyester blend slacks and cop shoes with nonskid soles. But back before he was a PsyCop—or even officially psychic—he rocked combat boots and a beat up biker jacket…and lots and lots of punk T-shirts. When he finds a faded tee in the back of a drawer, he’s eager to lob it in the trash. Jacob, however, finds himself waxing sentimental about Vic’s younger, more carefree days.

This steamy 5000-word PsyCop short in Jacob’s voice takes place after PsyCop #6, GhosTV.

Victor Bayne is one of my all time favourite characters. I really love him. Most of the PsyCop stories are written from his point of view. He's self deprecating yet confident. The PsyCop with the talent to see ghosts, to interact with ghosts, yet who fears the shadows. He really is a string of contradictions - beautiful contradictions that make him so interesting (also the Victor Bayne cover model is gorgeous and exactly how I imagine Victor to look). I love reading the books from his POV... but I also love these little shorts from Jacob's opinion.

Victor sees the good side of Jacob; the muscles, the protectiveness; the hard-worker who everyone who is in awe of. The guy who is indestructible. We see him constantly through Victor's eyes and especially in the way he compares them. Jacob sees the wonder that is Victor. I think that is what I gain most from these short interludes into Jacob's head. Everything we know about Victor, about Jacob and Victor's relationship, is confirmed but in a way that is less biased as we have both guys thoughts at last.

I like Jacob's opinion of Vic. A lot. He sees the man I see - and that man is funny, sexy, intelligent...
He is the man I love. Memento is particularly about this, about how Jacob sees Vic and how it differs from how Vic sees Vic. I like Vic, the punk before the suits that is still at the heart of who he is, even if he is mellower in his older age!

I suppose I ought to mention the hot sex. Um, it's hot...

I have to say Gomez Pugh is one of my favourite narrators, and he does this short complete justice. If you like audio books, if you like PsyCops, if you like Jordan Castillo Price, then I'd say give this book a go.

Review: When Love Flue In by Lillian Francis

A soot-haired chimney sweep, an exploding flue and an uncooked turkey. It’s an unholy trinity that may make all of Dominic’s Christmas wishes come true.

Dominic is celebrating his first Christmas since his divorce, and although he’s spending it on his own, he’s determined to have a traditional Christmas morning, including a roaring fire. Unfortunately, Dominic’s chimney is blocked, which is why Reagan, a soot-haired chimney sweep, is head and shoulders up Dominic’s flue. Dominic is just lucky the man had a cancellation on Christmas Eve.

Unable to take his eyes off Reagan’s low-slung jeans and enticing ass while he sets about the hearth with rods and brushes, Dominic knows five years is a long time to be obsessed with the man who sweeps his chimney every Christmas. This year there’s nothing to stop Dominic from acting on his desires—except his own insecurities.

An exploding flue provides the opportunity for more than just polite conversation and could be the catalyst for a perfect Christmas. But Dominic will need to stop hiding who he really is before a special sweep can light a fire in his heart.

Publisher's Note: This book was previously released by another publisher. It has been revised and re-edited for release with Totally Bound Publishing.

When a cutie patootie Christmas story came in with a request to be reviewed, in the spirit of Christmas harmony, Ann and I decided to review it together. We're both Christmas sluts, loving the ever living joy outta all Christmas jizz stories and so we shared the love for this one. Here's what we thought:

Peachy, Present Maker and Gift Giver Extraordinaire

Lori is so rights. Unapologetic Christmas sluts? Yep, that's us. I don't have the jumper collection she does, I couldn't rock them like my Lorikins, but you wave some Jingle Jizzmas in our general directions and we are on it like glitter on a unicorn.

This story was basically written for us. It's set in England, at Christmastime. There's a chimney sweep and an adorably punny title. I loved it. The beginning is bittersweet. These two don't know one another, they just have assumptions and a heavy dose of mutual attraction. Dominic broke my heart, I was just so sad for the guy. Kudos to him for acting on his attraction and taking charge of what his heart wanted. I loved that Reagan was wary but willing, it made their time read like more than just a potential one off.

The story really ramped up for me (and for Dominic and Reagan) when it came to "the moment". Holy jingle balls, talk about some well written sexual tension. That's is one of the sweetest/hottest first time scenes that I've read and it was perfect for these two.

The sweetness continues and I loved how when these two opened up, they did it unapologetically and without reservation. It made my heart grow three sizes.

Lorix Christmas Jumper Lover:

One sexy chimney sweep - tick,
One newly divorced, freshly out of the closet home owner - tick,
One cold and snowy winter - tick,
One 'meddling' mum - tick.....
Pretty much everything you need for a wonderful Christmas story. I have a weakness for Christmas stories set in England (mainly because they feel so reminiscent for me) and this was exactly the kind of story I stuff down quicker than chocolates Christmas morning. It made me gooey inside and left me sighing happily at the end. A really lovely little read. Oh, yeah - and I too have a very sexy chimney sweep, and his brother, my coal-man is also rather yummy. Nothing like a bit of eye candy when the cold season sets in.... But shhh...don't tell my husband I said that.....

Merry Christmas everyone!
