Review: Don't Bring a Cannibal to Dinner (A Cox Fairytale #3) by James Cox

What are you willing to sacrifice for true love?

Harris and Grant are both raised in an orphanage. They’ve known the cruelty of beatings, starvation and falling in love. When they run away into the dark woods, they come across a cottage made completely of sweet treats. What could one taste hurt? It stirs the handsome witch that lives inside. Fearing his wrath, they run straight into the brutal orphanage owner. Their unlikely hero is none other than the witch but does the handsome magician want to save them or devour them? As it turns out, a bit of both.

When the cottage the witch is bound to is set on fire, the guys must a make a terrible decision. For the only way the witch can be free is by eating one of their hearts.

The COX took me on quite a ride in less than 75 pages here. Plus I’m a huge sucker for a fairytale and Don’t Bring a Cannibal to Dinner is reminiscent of the classic originals that have a much darker side and that entertain me to no end.

Harris and Grant have been living a brutal existence in an orphanage that had no business taking care of children. The two have been one anothers only hope since they met as kids. The two are complete opposites and the dynamic between the two of them made for a sweet budding romance amidst all the misery.

Grant is big and strong, he’s survived by his wits and brawn and he lives to protect his best friend Harris. Harris is gentle and kind and he’s survived by flying under the radar. The two have grown up together and now that they are both on the cusp of adulthood, their relationship is evolving and while it’s obvious to the reader, the two of them are just figuring out as they go, that the love they feel towards one another is actually reciprocated.

Grant is close to aging out of the orphanage, but Harris is a month behind and there’s no way Grant is going to leave him there alone. So, the two of them make a break for it and their escape into the woods was very fairytale worthy. Spooky woods, hungry wolves, the specter of witches out there in the dark, it was all a great setup to the next chapter of their adventure.

Enter the witch!

So, Dec was not what I expected. I liked the guy. He was cursed and his story, once he told it, was quite sad. I really didn’t know where the story was going to go once he was introduced because he was a sympathetic character and I was getting kind of attached to him.

 In the meantime, Grant and Harris are taking the full plunge into love and learning what that means emotionally and physically. It was a different set of circumstances than any COX characters that I have met in the past in that, these guys know virtually nothing going into this. It was really sweet and pretty damn steamy, reading them fumble their way through all the firsts that come with truly loving another person.

And then things went dark and sideways, just like I like. So, as I said, where is Dec going to go in this story? It would have been way too easy to make him a pure baddy from the get-go, so I appreciated the twist and the truly heartbreaking direction the story took. While I didn’t love it emotionally, I was thankful for the story taking me down that dark road, That’s the bit that gave me the old school fairytale feel I love. I had that great love/hate feeling when I was reading. I may not have been happy, but me being happy was not the point, a good story is the point and this made the story great.

But, the more modern fairytale is there too and a hard earned HEA was had by Grant and Harris. The ending was a welcome conclusion and showed how much the two had grown after everything they had been through. The wrap up was a truly fairytale level HEA and the bittersweet contrast between Dec’s story and Harris and Grant’s is balanced and makes for a perfect “The End”.

Review: Death by Dick by James Cox (A Cox Club Story #2)

The day a hooker dropped dead on Kyler’s dick changed his life forever…

When Kyler graduated high school, he wanted to give himself a gift and that was his first blowjob from a sexy male hooker. Then said hooker drops dead in his lap. Yeah, he has that kind of bad luck. Now, the police are after him, he can’t go home because of an abusive father and he ends up working at The Cox Club, a small town gay gentlemen’s club.

Seamus is on his first undercover mission for the FBI. The problem is that he doesn’t think their terrorist suspect Kyler is guilty. Oh, and there’s also the matter of giving Kyler a hand job … on the FBI’s hidden camera. His first field mission may be his last.

When bullets start flying it’s up to Seamus to find out the truth and he has to do it before Kyler becomes a victim.

The COX is a man of impactful sentences and not many can title a book “Death by Dick” and have said death be a major vehicle for one of the MC’s actions. Plus, the dick has a plural meaning so the title alone has way more depth than just the pleasure of an initial chuckle at the COXloquialism. 

Kyler had my heart from the beginning of the story, I knew I’d be protective of him and rooting for him right away. He’s young, not dumb, but a little naive and ending up in a Gentleman’s Club could have been all measures of wrong for him, instead though, he ends up at The Cox Club with a wonderful group of secondary characters, save for one enormous asshole, and they all (except for the asshole) take Kyler under their proverbial wings.

From the beginning Kyler thinks he has one major problem, a major problem he’s been running from (keep the title in mind). While that problem isn’t his actual problem, he does have another, much larger problem he doesn’t even know about. Yet. Enter Seamus; undercover FBI agent sent to investigate Kyler as a possible terrorist threat. You know he didn’t do anything, I know he didn’t do anything, Kyler has no clue what’s happening and Seamus is very quickly a smitten kitten with everything about his suspect.

Throughout the story, Seamus is not a very good undercover dude. He breaks the rules right and left, but if you throw the FBI procedure manual out the window and enjoy the investigation for the launching point it is for a relationship between Kyler and Seamus, you’ll be good.

Seamus’ lack of clandestine skills and his inability to keep his dick to himself when it comes to Kyler is not lost on Seamus. He gave undercover work a shot and he knows it’s not going to be for him long term, so he just needs to finish this assignment and move on. He’s gotten way too close to Kyler, in soooooo many ways and he’s convinced Kyler is innocent. The undercover thing does add a ‘just right’ touch of conflict though. All this nonsense has to come crashing down at some point, but by the time it all does, I was sold on the relationship between the two of them, pack of lies and all.

Kyler may have been younger, but he really had a level head on him, especially in comparison to Seamus. Seamus just couldn’t pull it together professionally when it came to Kyler and it was honestly really sweet. And dirty. Because, COX. I enjoyed reading the two of them together a lot and their conversations read organically even though they were keeping so much from each other. The details didn’t seem to matter since they clicked on a higher level and I think that’s what made me believe in them when the “shit got real”.

Special Unicorn shout out to the secondary characters, mainly Sebastian, Coco and Seamus’ da. I loved every bit of page time these three got. Seamus and his da though, those moments were the best.

Review: The Devil's Cum in His Eye (A Cox Club Story #1) by James Cox

Cop by day, erotic writer by night, stripper on the weekends and Tomkin Coburn just found a dead body in his bedroom. But which occupation lead to murder?

Coburn has his teenage son in tow and a detective that seems to be interested in his butt as well as his innocence. He’ll do anything to protect his kid and the intense feelings he has for Detective Luke Early. The evidence quickly mounts up against Coburn, murder weapon, body fluids and oh yeah, no one in the world seems to know who the dead guy is.

Together, Coburn and Luke find themselves in the path of a killer but can they unravel the mystery before it’s too late?

It’s been entirely too long since I’ve read a story by James Cox and I’ve missed his words terribly. The Devil’s Cum in His Eye was a great story to get me back into bed with the Cox and I had a great time. His stories never fail to entertain and they’re a great weekend read, a treat you deserve at the end of a week full of reality’s BS.

The Devil’s Cum in His Eye is the story of two cops who are thrown together in a slightly less than meet-cute manner. Coburn has woken up next to a dead very casual acquaintance-with-benefits and Luke is the detective who shows up on the scene. It’s Luke’s case and the two of them shouldn’t spend time together, but there is no fun in that and the two of them are ridiculously attracted to one another sooo, they break all the rules while working to prove Coburn’s innocence in the slaying of the BJ buddy.

Coburn also has a teenage son who is his whole life. Their backstory gives the necessary depth to their relationship and I liked the family aspect the author put in this story. It fit for all the MC’s and I would love to read more about them and actually would have loved for this story to be twice as long. They would be my only niggle. The story had a lot to work with and while nothing is left out and all the questions were answered, I would have just loved more of all of it. The interactions between all the characters, not just the MC’s, were great. I loved Jake’s partner, and would have liked to meet Tom’s girlfriend, not to mention just more of the MC’s together in general. There were great dynamics here and I want more.

One of the things I really appreciate in Cox stories is the relative lack of angst between the two MC’s once the attraction gets acknowledged. Not that they may not have outside influences that affect the “getting together” timeframe, but they are always honest about their feelings and ask for what they want. It’s really refreshing and one of the reasons I’m such a fan. Sure, the MC’s are generally horny as hell, I’ve got no problem with that, but they have no problem admitting they want more and go for it. I love it. I get more time with the MC’s together and they always seem more fully fleshed out to me.

The mystery is solved, but not without loss and this is an example where I wanted more of all the characters involved. It was heartbreaking and I loved how they were all so supportive of one another. I just wasn’t ready to let it all go.

I’m hoping for more in the series soon. I’m heading to Evernight now to get a copy of Lawless so I can read Mickey’s story (you meet him briefly in this one) and I’m ready to get back to the Cox Club world. Kudos to the author for naming the strip club after himself, I mean, why wouldn’t you? And also for the working so many keys to the investigation into the title. Loved it!

Review: The Forest of Dark Delights (A Cox Fairytale #1) by James Cox

After the beast became human, Belle turned into the animal.

We all know the story. The dangerous and ugly Beast finds his true love in Belle. After a horrific fight with Gaston, the beast is finally transformed back into a man. What happens after that? It’s almost two years later and Belle is no longer the sweet woman the Beast fell in love with. She sweeps into towns with her ruthless army to pillage every book she can find and add it to her library. Beast is lonely, saddened by the lover he can’t understand but soon an old enemy returns to the castle.

Gaston is not the man he used to be. He made a promise to himself when he survived that fall, broken but alive. He’d make his amends to the beast. Someway, somehow.

When Gaston and Beast start a forbidden romance, the evil that is Belle returns to the castle…

Well I can't decide if it was a mistake to read this book or not. I adore Beauty and the Beast and now I may never be able to watch those movies the same ever again. I mean Belle turns into the most psychotic book hoarder in history! Who knew?

If the town did not agree to give up their books she’d send in her army. They’d take care of the villagers, steal the books, then burn the buildings to the ground.

So Belles gone crazy and Adam is at a loss of what to do for the woman he was once so in love with, therefore he has once again become a recluse within his castle. Then Gaston comes along, offering to help until Adam can forgive him for almost killing Adam 2 years prior (remember the knife to the back on the tower!). One of the ways Gaston can help out is by offering to elevate Adams mood…. If you know what I mean *waggles eyebrows*.

As it turns out big Gaston is a big ol’ bottom and Adam is quite the rough dominant. I was not disappointed by the sex!

Adam pushed a little deeper then pulled out and gave the area another spit. He wasn’t a gentleman, not tonight. Tonight, he was the beast. Adam thrust forward, urging half his length in Gaston. The man tangled in shackles groaned and winced. “Take me,” Adam whispered.

Then there was some serious face fucking. It was all very fairytale like….not.

I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of Gaston's character and the development between Adam and himself. It took a while for them to be more than convenient fuck buddies, but they got there in the end and I really enjoyed all of it!

So was this whole story more than slightly ridiculous? Yes absolutely. Did that make it all the more better? Yes absolutely. This is not the type of story to take to seriously, so only go into this if you're after some silly, sexy fun!

If you want to read something different, fun and sexy as hell, this is probably the book for you, but be prepared it will ruin Beauty and Beast for you.

I am soooo eagerly anticipating the rest of the series!

Review: Suck the Savage Beast (Sons of Outlaws #3) by James COX

Earth beasts are sexier than he expected…

Welliver is a scientist first and an Outlaw MC member second. He’s the smartest man in the crew that’s exploring earth to create a new home. But when a monster attacks them and he’s separated from the crew, he is saved by a savage and sexy beast.

The beast doesn’t remember his name. He was sent to the earth prison when he was just a boy but was left behind when the prison was evacuated. Beast has spent nearly twenty years alone on earth, trying to survive this dangerous world. He’s animalistic and maybe the best hope humans have for staying alive with these new threats.

Beast doesn’t understand it’s not okay to lick strangers, or the whole wearing clothes thing but neither man is prepared for the attraction between them. Welliver will have to pull on his Outlaw MC heritage to endure the wilds of earth but how will survive the savage beast?

I ask you, how does one not buy this book for the title alone?

Beyond that, I loved this installment of the Sons of Outlaws series. If you’ve been following along, and you should be, the Sons of Outlaws are in the process of relocating to Earth from Mars. Mars is becoming uninhabitable and the there’s a small scouting crew that has landed on Earth to check the viability of the place and to get some prepwork going. In Suck the Savage Beast we get to know Deviant and Tage’s kids Welliver and Lily. I have to say, it was pretty awesome how Deviant’s kids turned out. They aren’t much like Deviant at all, but the family vibe is strong. Tage is back on Mars so it’s just Deviant and his kids on Earth along with a few others.

Welliver and Lily are brilliant braniacs and Welliver is always sure to keep everyone advised as to his genius status. While he’s cocky on the surface, he’s riddled with insecurities at the same time. He wraps himself in equations and calculations boosting his outward confidence, but when it comes to personal interactions, he’s at a complete loss. It was fun to read a COX character who was so different than any I’d read before. He still had the touch of COX in him though because he could be an amusingly cocky little shit at times and I really liked that about him. I did like his vulnerability more though and when he meets Beast I knew I’d be loving these two guys together.

Beast was left behind when the Earth prison was abandoned many moons ago and the poor dude has been living alone and fending for himself for years. He hasn’t seen another human, mostly just the rabid octopus thingies, so his social skills aren’t on point, but Welliver is way too busy drooling over the sexy sexiness to worry about niceties.

My favorite parts of the story were the moments when Welliver was feeling a little vulnerable and was having trouble believing Beast could be interested in him for more than just balling and bailing, like what Well was used to. That’s when Beast would step up and let Welliver know, in his own deliciously Beasty way, that Beast was in this for more than just the bone-n-go. Beast really was into Welliver and I totally got his sincerity throughout. It was really very sweet in a Tarzan meets Brain kind of way. As I got to know Beast and his history too, I was all kinds of happy for him to finally get someone to love and for him to be loved. The ending scene was romantic and dirty and just right for the two of them.

So, Earth is getting ready for the citizens of Mars, the new Earth dwellers are battling the gnarly octopi and there is still plenty of story left to tell for all these characters. The Dick Defender is up next, telling Helrick’s tale. And again, I ask you, how does one not buy this story for the title alone?

Review: The Dom of Peculiar Places (Sons of Outlaws #2) by James Cox

Twenty years after the Outlaw MC Series…

their children may not know the cost of war but they will know terror when mars starts to reject humanity... Roark is Mayhem’s son and earned his place in the club. He’s a dominant that has a constant eye on the new prospect, Henry. Roark is horny and needs to pound something, be it flesh or a warm hole. He’s looking forward to bossing the new guy around. It all goes to hell when the quake rocks mars and they’re trapped underground. As if being trapped isn’t bad enough, they overhear a plot to kill an MC member. This Dom of Peculiar places has limited time to get free, get laid and save the day.

A prospect that joins the club for unexpected reasons meets a biker that has an unhealthy obsession with him and things will get dirty. Get the lube, bring the blindfold, don’t forget the restraints. Roark doesn’t play, he takes control. And when Roark finally gets Henry under him, not even a dying planet will stop him from finding his sticky, happy ending.

The Dom of Peculiar Places is the second in the Sons of Outlaws series and the second series set on Mars with the Outlaw MC. The Sons of Outlaws picks up with the second generation of badass bikers and I’m digging on this series as much as I did the original. So far, it’s not as intensely hardcore as the Outlaw MC’s, but that makes sense since we were dropped in with the original Outlaws in the middle of a revolution. But the tension is building in this series as Mars itself seems to be rebelling against its inhabitants. I like how the pacing is different in the second set so the series feels familiar and unique at the same time.

In the Dom, we get to know Roark, Mayhem’s son and the prospect, Henry. Roark has become enamored of Henry but has kept him at arm’s length because Roark is really not a relationship kind of guy. Or so he tells himself at the beginning. That doesn’t mean he can’t ogle those sweet prospect buns though. And, oh Roark. He’s exactly the kind of alpha character I love to read about. Like the rest of the Outlaw MC, both first generation and second, Roark is a total badass. Imagine if Mayhem and Whip could mix up their DNA, they would get a Roark. Mayhem is still Mayhem and thankfully there’s Torrin, who’s all reasonable and parental giving Mayhem the balance he needs to be a big softy underneath all the badassery.

That’s what I love, the big softy underneath. Roark definitely seems to be the one in control here, but in reality it’s his feels for Henry that end up being the driving force in Roark’s life. It was really cute actually how Roark kept trying to talk himself out of his feelings for Henry, like, as if that could be a thing. Roark is still all tough guy and Dom-ish, but his actions are sweet as pie when it comes to Henry’s care and comfort. I swooned repeatedly over the little moments and Henry is a pretty smart cookie and he could see through Roark pretty easily too.

Henry was a great character. He’s had a tough life and his health is suffering with the environment on Mars. An earthquake puts the two together alone initially and while I wouldn’t necessarily call a natural disaster a meet-cute, that’s basically what it is in the world of a James Cox book and it works for these characters perfectly. Roark and Henry would have gotten together eventually, I’m sure, but there’s nothing like a catastrophe to put your shit into perspective. I don’t think Roark could manage a relationship with just anyone, he definitely needed someone like Henry, tough yet tender with a snarky, smart-ass wit that kept Roark on his toes. I loved their banter and Henry loved getting ‘punished’ for that smart mouth of his. James knows how to keep a reader on their toes by taking a scene and turning it 180 and giving the reader an unexpected (and highly enjoyable) moment. For instance, the scene in the cave, near the beginning; it wasn’t what I was expecting and I loved it all the more for not following a formula.

I was a really big fan of the chemistry between these two. While Roark is the dominant one during playtime and Henry eats up every minute of it, the care and concern outside of those moments showed how much Henry had Roark wrapped around his little finger without even trying. The balance gave their relationship a lot of depth for a 108 page book that also has the planet falling apart at the same time.

I’m all set for the next in the series, “Suck the Savage Beast”. Have you read the blurb for that one??? The Sons of Outlaws series is a deliciously entertaining escape and I can’t recommend the trip enough.

Review: Broken, Collared and Ready for Revenge (The Gentlemen Brothers #3) by James COX

The collar comes off and all that’s left is a broken man.

Alexander Gentlemen has spent fifteen years with the collar on, beaten into submission, tortured beyond anything a human mind can survive. He’s fractured around the edges when his brothers finally save him. With the help of ‘One Nut’ Nigel, the collar is removed. He’s starting to remember the faces of those he’s killed and fighting the urge to murder everyone around him. But the one who put that clockwork device on him is still on the loose. With the help of Nigel, he tries to be integrated into a society he no longer understands.

Can he control himself long enough to get his revenge? Will Nigel be his savior or will Alexander embrace his darker side?

I’m really bummed seeing this series end. I’m not ready to let this world go much less these characters. James is a master of world building and it’s hard to believe this is his first dabble into steampunk. He always gives just the right amount of detail and a lot of information comes through organically relying on showing with minimal telling. That’s a tough balance with any story and especially ones in sci-fi and the AU genres and it’s something that James does with ease.

There are three installments in The Gentlemen Brothers series and each book focuses on one of the three brothers that were torn apart when they were kids. So we’ve met Joshua and Logan, both of which are really likable heroes who have fought hard for their happiness. In Broken we get Alexander’s story. What little we know so far about Alexander is not great and it’s already hard to feel sympathy for him and we don’t even know him yet.

BUT, there’s way more to his story and he’s had it the hardest of all the brothers. The time he spent between being kidnapped and being rescued is heartbreaking. Once the collar that kept him compliant is removed (kudos to Nigel for figuring it out, and more on Nigel in a minute) he can begin to figure out what life he missed out on in those between years and reconcile the acts he committed while under control of the Queen.

Alexander missed out on pretty much all the information he’d need during his formative years to be a fully functional adult. He can kill a man with his pinky, but he’s not entirely sure when to keep his pants on. I liked reading about him navigating his way through his days while coming to terms with his memories. It was in turn, sad, enlightening, charming and funny.

During this time he was assigned Nigel to have him figure his shit out and he helped Nigel too, but it was mostly the former. We first me Nigel in Logan’s book, Sex, Emergency Exits and Plan B’s and I immediately had a warm fuzzy for the shy, soft-spoken scientist. I REALLY wanted Nigel to get some lovin’ and when I found out he was getting paired up with Alexander I wasn’t sure how I felt about the two of them. It totally worked though and it probably worked out so well because Nigel had such a logical mind and big heart. The two of them together had a lot of chemistry but it was more subtle then some of the other characters and that was perfectly balance for these two.

One more time, I really don’t want this to end. Everything gets answered and wrapped up, not too neatly though, which is good, but I still want more. I love the world James built I’ll definitely be rereading the series.

Now, on to my ramblings about Sex, Gunpowder and Saving the Day . . . .


Steampunk done right is a lot of fun, but you can’t just throw some gears and clock parts at something and call it Steampunk. A lot of times stories, art, etc. do too much and the story gets lost in the accessorizing. Sex, Gunpowder and Saving The Day is Steampunk done right. The elements are subtle enough to give the fun and fascinating vibe that Steampunk has and present enough to give solid world building in the first of The Gentleman Brothers series.

Joshua Gentleman is the oldest of three brothers who were separated as children when the dirigible they lived on with their father was basically hijacked. Joshua fell from the dirigible and was saved by Lord Peasley who took him in, took care of him and helped him look for his brothers. Lord Peasley also had a son, Valence, who became Joshua’s best friend, ally in all kinds of coming of age shenanigans and was his first love. They grew older and then grew apart as one night together changed everything between them and the next day Joshua went off to school. His feelings for Val never changed though. Joshua became a respected detective as he figured that would be the best occupation to have to track his younger brothers down.

Joshua and his smart ass of a partner, Filch, are assigned to a case that breaks Joshua’s heart and puts him back in contact with Val. Lord Peasley has been murdered and as Joshua and Filch begin their investigation, with Val’s help, they discover there are more nefarious high-jinx afoot and the trail seems to lead all the way to the top. The society that the author has created is so interesting to read, he paints the pictures with his words organically and I got caught up in Joshua’s world visually and emotionally from the beginning.

One of the many things I love about The COX’s books is the personalities of the MC’s. They’re all unique, but I love getting the trademark snark and bit of the cocky bravado, even if it’s just there to cover up past hurts. These guys are the vehicles by which the author delivers his epic sentences that I love. Joshua has a little something else about him though that hit me right in the feels. He’s what I would call, an accidental romantic.

Joshua’s loved Val forever and when they are put back together through the tragedy of Lord Peasley’s death, they manage to pick up where they reluctantly left off years ago. Joshua wasn’t a pro-level flirter, he wasn’t a smooth operator, he was a man on a mission to find his brothers. The fact that he had a second chance with Val was not wasted on him and the honest appreciation Joshua had for everything that Val was, hit my heart in all the right places. I love that the author’s characters don’t waste time on angst and Joshua was the same. He wore his heart on his sleeve for Val and I loved every little moment when the reality of Val hit him.

Then for good measure, I pulled him to me and pressed my lips onto his. It was like seeing the world in colour all of a sudden. 

Coming from a by-the-book, slightly grumpy professional hard-ass, this made me go, D’awwwwwwwww.

There’s a good bit of action and a couple of terrible moments that will set up the rest of the series. The love between Val and Joshua doesn’t end with them. They are outcasts on a mission, Joshua, Val and the ‘gender friendly’ Filch are in this together. Love that bit, BTW, completely ready for more of that. The story ends on a satisfying cliffhanger. The COX’s series are all good at that. The MC’s get their happy, but the story is just beginning and I can’t wait for book 2.

Short. Sexy. Fun.

Vern, Ale, and Rei finally achieved their dream jobs with The Three Guys Pleasure Ship. Vern gets to cook for their guests, Ale serves the drinks, while Rei gets to pilot the ship. They rolled all their passions into one business and get to do what they love best. Besides each other, that is.

It was awesome to see the guys post-HEA and really living out their dream and what they set out to accomplish together. I really enjoyed them getting together in the first book, Dick, It's What's For Dinner, so of course I wanted more of these guys.  

Not everything ran completely smooth and there was a bit of action and sci-fi adventure, but this was mostly a sexy and fun ride. I love that the story doesn't take itself too seriously. There's world-building and I got a clear picture of the setting and story, but it wasn't bogged down with details. I think James Cox does consistently does this really well. 

This is perfect for something quick and can be read in one sitting. I do recommend reading book one first, but I'm pretty sure that won't be a hardship.

What to do after having delicious Dick for Dinner? Hmmmmmm . . . You head to the stars with The COX that’s what you do for dessert. Our Place Among the Stars is a the perfect epilogue to Dick, It’s What’s for Dinner. The guys had a lot happen to them at the end of their story, so this installment let me wrap my brain around their HEA and wallow in the feels a bit. I like how James writes feelings for his character. He says a lot with a few words and it really sounds honest for how his characters would speak.

There was still excitement, that’s what James does, but he balances the story with the setting really well. I got a great visual but the story wasn’t buried in detail which is pretty necessary for a short story. The ending was so good and James really knows how to write a menage scene that’s yummy dirty and still gives the connection between the characters.

I love this series. Like, a lot. And, while I’ve loved reading every pairing along the MC’s journey to retake Mars, I’ve been dying to get back to Outlaw and Liam. Liam’s imprisonment on Earth has been hanging over every story and the toll it takes on Outlaw is a heartbreaker. James does a great job of showing Outlaw’s strength he keeps up for all the members of their cause while at the same time I could feel how much the loss of Liam is tearing him apart.

And then there is Reilly, the Prospect who has been in love with Outlaw from day one. (Also, that is TOTALLY him on the cover.) I wasn’t sure how this was all going to play out and still let me keep my feels for the original relationship between Outlaw and Liam. It’s what got me hooked on the series to begin with, so, not gonna lie, I was a little nervous.

But, one of the many things that James does so well, is build a menage relationship. Seriously, that’s something that is NOT easy to do and a reason why a lot of readers don't dig on reading them, I get that. The relationships all start to run together, the feels are all the same and when it comes time to head to Pound Town, the holes become interchangeable. I don’t want to read about interchangeable holes. 

I want my characters to keep their personalities and the relationships should all be unique. Outlaw can’t love Reilly the same way that he loves Liam. But, he can still love him and the difference is what makes it so good. The relationship begins to take some shape, but Outlaw is never going to move forward until he gets his Liam back.

 The journey to Earth, what they found and how they rescued Liam was soooooo good. Just because the MC reclaimed Mars, didn’t mean the excitement was over. And Liam, poor strong, amazing, beautiful Liam. He was so damaged, BUT, he was an Outlaw MC of Mars and no tentacled beast was going to keep him from going home. He knew. He knew Outlaw was going to come get him, he just had to survive long enough.

Now, the whole Reilly thing was a bit of a surprise, but what I like about this series in general is how these guys acknowledge their feelings of confusion or trepidation, but at the same time, they know how lucky they are to find love and they appreciate it without a ridiculous amount of angst. Given the world they are living in, it makes sense. There were no declarations of insta-love, just openness and optimism of what they were heading toward together.

Liam needs a lot of support right now and it will take two men to help make him whole again. This is where the uniqueness of the characters comes in and works so well again. Outlaw and Reilly both provide an unwavering foundation, but they offer it in completely different ways. I loved it. Liam isn’t instantly healed as soon as he gets home and gets a dose of Outlaw’s magic peen. But, he’s on his way and with Outlaw and Reilly by his side I had no doubt he would find his peace again.

Now, you can’t stop at #8, there is a 25 page little Jizzmas gem that follows, The Outlaw MC of Mars: A Christmas Story #9  that you have to read. For one, it’s a great wrap up of all the pairings we’ve read about in books 1-8, it also gives the final scene I needed/wanted for Outlaw, Liam and Reilly. Liam is “forced” to face his demons by his lovers and while it may have been a little unconventional and definitely uncomfortable for Liam, his partners were there for him and the final scene was some hot-as-hell therapy that I could totally get behind. This is a must read for fans of this series. That being said, I already miss them!

Oh, for the love of balls, this was fun. 

Vern, Ale and Rei are besties and they work at a bar where they shake their sexy asses to pay the bills. When they receive a job offer they can't refuse, they hope to be able to pursue their dream jobs with the large payout they're promised. In Vern's case, he loves to cook and dreams of being a chef. Luckily, the job offers him this opportunity. But with naked dancing. And a little chef hat on his penis. No joke.

I loved the sci-fi world building. I could clearly picture everything, but was never confused. It was an easy read, which is uncommon for a sci-fi romance, IMO. It also helped that Vern was so completely likable. The story was from his POV and I loved being inside his head.

As the guys work their new job, they start to push their unspoken boundaries a bit. All for the sexy show, of course, nothing more. Until it's not all for show and their real feelings come to the surface. They all had feelings for each other before there was touching involved, but it was never discussed and the guys kept it all to themselves. Given the premise and the title, I was surprised by how much I felt from these guys. This wasn't only some fun sci-fi erotica (although, it was that) but there was definitely a great romance between Vern, Ale and Rei. I was especially surprised by Ale. The big guy is just a soft marshmallow inside and he ended up stealing the show for me.

Fun, flirty, with a bit of an emotional punch. Definitely my fave from James Cox, thus far.

So, when James Cox invited members of the clubhouse over to his pad to have dinner, more specifically, Dick for Dinner, Breann and I tripped over each other heading out the clubhouse door.

James always provides a fun sci-fi adventure and this one is no exception. Once you get past your appreciation of the title of course :D.

The world building was detailed without being overcomplicated making it easy to dive right into the story and understand where the characters are coming from. The story is written from Vern’s perspective and his character was extremely likable, charming and deliciously horny. He’s an aspiring chef who’s working as a stripper/waiter to earn enough to finish his training. He works closely with Ale and Rei. Ale is a big ol’ hunk of a man that Vern has a crush on and he’s a bit of a mystery. Rei is a pilot in training who’s working his way through training just like Vern. The three have great chemistry on the surface and once the story really gets going the physical attraction moves into something much sweeter and deeper. James threw in just enough feels to take the story from pure sci-fi campy fun to something more.

James writes a damn fine menage relationship. His characters are all very unique so you don’t get them muddled during sexy times and he doesn’t discount the feelings that each has for one another. They are different, but no less important. Vern feels differently for Ale than he does for Rei, doesn’t make it any less significant, but it’s unique and I think that’s why they work for me.

The adventure was great fun and his hero’s always have the charm and “accidental luck” that make them great to read. They aren’t perfect and no victory comes easy, that’s what makes them all the more heroic in my book. They are regular horny guys in an extraordinary situation.
The ending was delicious as I was expecting from the title and I liked reading how the guys had evolved and come together after all the shenanigans were played out.

A couple of fave sentences, because I always highlight the hell out of James’s sentences:

“Ale was a sight that made cocks harden and weep.”

“His long legs ate up the space much like I wanted to eat his dick.”

“His cheeks were the shade of a hard-spanked ass.”

BMBR: Where do you think up these titles?

Well, there's this sexy guy that runs around in my head naked. He just shouts things out. Usually I'm distracted by his dick. Once in awhile, he gives me a title. lol. Honestly, no clue. They pop into my head.

BMBR: If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

I'm thinking x-ray vision. There's a couple people at work I'd love to see naked. lol.

BMBR: Does being single help your writing?

Well, I can only masturbate so many hours in the day. Therefore, I write. lol.

BMBR: Your newest book deals with strippers saving the world. How did that come about?

They didn't start as strippers. I had a title - Dick, It's What's For Dinner - and that's it. After brainstorming I knew I wanted to do something with cooking and maybe a sci fic. It was a lot of fun to write this world and the miniature chef hat scene. I hope my readers like the humor in this one. There is a sequel to this book, Our Place Among The Stars. It's projected release date is in November.

BMBR: What are you currently working on?

I just finished writing a contemporary, of all things! It's currently being edited before I submit it to my publisher. This one is all about being torn down by life but finding someone to help him rise back up. I'm rather proud of all the emotion in the contemporary.
