Mondays are little more fun when BMBR anniversary comes around! Melanie Hansen visits the pony paddock! Today she chats about her latest military story, and hosts quite the giveaway! A $10 Amazon gift card giveaway...your Monday got a little better, didn't it? ;)
Take it away, Melanie!
First of all, Happy 5th Birthday, BMBR! Thanks so much for inviting me to be a part of your celebration!
November is an exciting month for me personally since today is release day for Loving a Warrior, Book One in my new three-book series with Carina Press.
You might be saying, do we really need another series about Navy SEALs? Believe me, I asked myself the same question! But here’s the thing: My husband served for twenty-five years in the Navy. There have been times he’s worked closely with SEALs, and he’s friends with a couple of them to this day. During the time we lived on Coronado Island next to the naval amphibious base, I made friends with their wives.
It wasn’t unusual to spend a day at the beach and see helicopters with men dangling from cables flying out over the ocean and bay, or see them furiously paddling their boats through the swells. In our housing units, we got warnings when Hell Week was about to start so that we wouldn’t think the sound of gunfire or the sight of colored smoke from “grenades” was anything to be afraid of. It was just another day of training.
When I got the idea for Loving a Warrior, I decided to write about that training, a “before they were SEALs” type of thing. My husband laughed at first. He said, “Um, that’s great and all, but sex and love are the last thing guys going through BUD/S are thinking about.” Yes, I get that, but dammit, I still wanted to write it! So I did, while hopefully keeping to the spirit of some of the toughest military training in the world.
What helped a lot was finding amazing face-casts for my characters. That doesn’t always happen but these guys are perfect and exactly how I picture them in my head.
Meet Shane:
and Matt:
Sigh.
Look for Book Two, Keeping a Warrior, due out in April 2019! I need to tell you, though, that while Matt and Shane feature heavily as secondary characters, it is NOT a M/M story. It’s a story that I’ve been longing to write, based on a little-known unit of women who actually deploy with special operations teams and go out on missions with them. Please watch my Twitter and Facebook for more information.
Once again, thanks so much, BMBR, for hosting me today!
And we thank Melanie for jamming out with the unicorns!
Here's some info on her latest release:
Blurb:
BUD/S: six months of the most intense training there is. It’s survival of the toughest, and Matt Knytych is determined to come out the other side a navy SEAL.
Distraction is life or death. And just the sight of former marine Shane Hovland is enough to shake Matt’s concentration.
Shane came to BUD/S training ready to prove himself—again. Semper Fi is forever, but he needs a new start. Not this dangerous heat with a man he barely knows.
Everything they’ve ever wanted is riding on a thin, punishing line. And they’ll have to fight for more than just each other if they want to make it through intact.
After all, the only easy day was yesterday.
