Follow along and you will see a tale retold in a world of unimaginable creatures, gods, and goddesses. A world filled to the brim with magic. Our story begins with a sorcerer with too much power without the age to match.

Ryder, our hero, who just so happens to be a painfully short redhead, has found himself burdened with the fates of thousands, in a life where he has so far received very few answers. In order to find the cure to the plague that has overtaken the Kingdom of Solais, he sets off on a quest to seek out his slightly crazy grandmother, in the Yore Forest.

Add in one flirty, handsome werewolf Prince, a sarcastic sorcerer-hating werewolf, some full-blown insanity, and a bit of magic, and Ryder finds his momentous task doubling in difficulty and stress. But all is not what it seems, and sometimes life takes you to places you never wished to stand. In the end, Ryder's decisions and paths are not choices but destiny. And in said destiny lies insurmountable magic, death, and maybe even love.

Excerpt

Bane sprinted into the forest, running faster than Ryder could ever hope to. The thudding of the man’s bare feet on the dirt path almost lured Ryder to sleep.

It would have been to their detriment. The danger was not over. Escaping his grandmother would take more than physical strength and a little magic. She would not give up that easily.

Ryder had barely had that thought when he felt it—magic. The air became electric as it surged closer. He could taste it. Ryder could feel it permeating his very bones. But something was wrong. Instead of fear or apprehension, his very soul felt elated.

Ryder felt energy build inside him. Strength he shouldn’t have had, it called for his magic to rise. And as the unknown force sped towards them, his heart started to race in anticipation.

At first, there was only a thundering rumble. Then the ground began to shake, and a roaring symphony of cracking, snapping, and explosions followed—sounds of pure destruction. Screeching beasts could be heard in the distance, the creatures dying as they are unable to get out of the way of his grandmother’s spell. And soon, the already dim sky darkened further.

He watched Bane quickly glance back. When the werewolf swore and started a brutal pace, he knew they were probably screwed.

Even knowing that, Ryder couldn’t stop his eyes from widening in horror when he finally caught sight of what was after them. It was not something anyone could outrun. Headed their way was a tsunami-size wave of dirt, rocks, and trees. He could see nothing beyond it. Not only was it coming from behind, but from all sides, leaving only an increasingly narrow path in front of them.

And as the two waves began to swell over them, stealing away their path, Ryder’s first thought was that they were going to die. But then the defiant part of him, that always pushed him to defeat the odds, screamed no—no, he would not die this way! Ryder refused!

He let his magic consume the mysterious energy—he let it free. Instead of recoiling from the all-consuming spell coming for them, his magic flew towards it. As their magic collided, a spell he had never learned filled his mind. The language was old, foreign to him, but he somehow understood.

When the world turned to darkness, the wave mere seconds from crushing them, time slowed for Ryder.

His body hummed, and the spell he shouldn’t have known past his lips. “Îgňaęϋe těŕrvʼna ɋȏnǹ ȸrǽ relǽg’uɱ Ťę môrʋǐtȕs!”

He began to emit a red glow. That glow became brighter and brighter, until it was blinding.

Ryder blinked as time returned to normal. The wall of dirt, all of it was gone. The only evidence of it having been there was the barren land all around them.

“That was...insane,” Bane rasped, voice shaking. The man had a death grip on him, and the werewolf’s voice wasn’t the only thing shaking.

In a slight daze, Ryder peered up at the man. Fearful brown eyes met his. It was the look one cast at a monster. Ryder quickly glanced away.

Clearing his throat, Bane announced, “We should get going.”

Going where, Ryder thought weakly. He found he was too tired to ask. The energy and magic that had saved them had dissipated, the spell that had been so clear moments before was lost to him.

Bane started off again after a moment of hesitation, carrying him into the barren wasteland the spell had created. Listening to the werewolf’s speeding heartbeat, Ryder let his exhaustion take him.

While he did not know where they were going, or what was going to happen, the one thing he did know was that this was far from over.

Music from his clock radio woke Thad Matthews at 6:00 a.m. The song, “Smokestack Lightning,” yanked him from a heavy, dream-laden sleep. Its energy forced his eyes open wider, caused synapses, eight hours dormant, to tingle, and made him want to move. Nonetheless, he slapped at the snooze button, silencing the bluesy wail, rolled over, and then pulled the comforter over his head. He was glad he had tuned his clock radio to KPLU, Seattle’s only all-blues all-the-time station, but he desperately wanted to recapture just a few more minutes of his dream, in which he’d found himself on the moors of England. All he could recall was that the moors themselves were appropriately fog shrouded and lit with a silvery luminance from above. Someone waited for him in the shadows and fog. And he couldn’t, for the life of him, know for certain if that someone meant to do him harm or meant to just do him.

He’d been having a lot of sexual dreams lately.

As much as he wanted to unravel the mystery of the dream—and to perhaps savor the vague sexual vibrations he was getting from it—sleep eluded him. He found thoughts of the day crowding in, preventing even the most remote possibility of a recurrence of slumber.

Thad sat up in the four-poster, rubbing his eyes like a little boy, and wondered why he bothered setting an alarm. He had no job to go to, no pressing engagements, no muse to answer to—hell, he didn’t even have an appointment for an oil change.

This day, like all his others, stretched out before him completely unmarred with obligations other than the requirements life imposed upon him, such as eating and going to the bathroom, which the erection poking up under his sheets compelled him to take care of. He called this morning wood a pee-on, because once he had put that particular need to rest, it most often subsided.

After stumbling to the adjoining bathroom and letting go with a flow that caused a mighty sigh of relief to issue forth from him, he thought once again that maybe today should be the day he looked harder into getting himself some employment—anything to put him into contact with other people and to fill his waking hours. Lord knew he filled out enough applications and answered enough Help Wanted ads on Craigslist to keep the officials down at unemployment sending him checks. But all his efforts, dishearteningly, were ignored.

It had been nearly four months since he had been laid off at Perk, the national chain of coffee shops headquartered in suburban Shoreline. Thad had been there for six years, in the marketing department, spending his days writing clever sayings for paper coffee cups and point-of-purchase signs for the stores. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it. And writing phrases like “Plan on Being Spontaneous” paid the bills, even if it didn’t provide much creative or intellectual challenge. It helped sell coffee, and Thad never kidded himself: that’s why he was employed there.

Except now they didn’t need him anymore. Who would write the signs for their special Iced Coffee blend?

He gazed down at the bubbling golden froth in the toilet and flushed it away, along with his thoughts about his former job. He turned and rinsed his hands under the sink, then splashed cold water on his face. Standing up straight, he stared at his reflection in the medicine cabinet mirror.

“You’re too young for a life of leisure,” he said to his reflection, rubbing his hands through his short, coarse red hair, which stuck up in a multitude of directions. People paid good money for products that would make their hair look as fetchingly disheveled as Thad’s did right now. He peered closer at himself, taking inventory of his pale skin, his gray eyes, and the constellation of freckles that spanned his nose and the tops of his cheeks. He flexed, thinking he was looking a little flabby around the middle.

“Workout day. I’ll head over to the gym today. I need it.” He sucked in his gut and let it out again, thinking it was empty and needed refilling. A Pagliacci delivery pizza only went so far. His slumber and active dream life, he supposed, had all but digested the pie.

Thad moved to the bedroom and began tossing pillows on the floor to make up his bed. He wasn’t sure why he bothered with this either, since it was unlikely anyone would see the military-neat bed except for him, when he would approach it once more this evening just to mess it all up again. But it was important to Thad to have a routine. Otherwise his days would blend into one meaningless chunk of time, formless, without definition or purpose.

It was becoming increasingly hard enough to distinguish Tuesday from Thursday—or Sunday, for that matter.

Back when he was putting in forty-plus hours a week, he envied the increasing number of friends and acquaintances who had gotten laid off during the economic downturn. The money they made on unemployment seemed like enough—at least for him and his modest lifestyle in his Green Lake studio apartment—and the freedom they had seemed worth the cut in pay.

But now he wasn’t so sure. The uncertainty of what would happen if he still wasn’t working when the unemployment checks dwindled down to zero hung over him like a vague threat. And the freedom wasn’t really so great, when that same threat prevented him from spending much money, lest he should need it down the road for luxuries like food and a roof over his head.

Worst of all was what the job loss had done to his self-esteem. Thad needed some meaning in his life, a purpose. That much had been instilled in him since he was a little boy, back in Chicago growing up in the working class neighborhood of Bridgeport, where his father was a cop and his mother waited tables at a Lithuanian restaurant.

He pulled on a T-shirt and a pair of sweatpants, padded out to the office area of his apartment, and plopped down in front of his laptop. He planned to check out the classifieds on Craigslist, then Monster, then CareerBuilder. When he was first laid off, he looked only at writing and editing jobs but had lately broadened his search to include, well, just about everything. Thad realized he would work retail, man a customer service phone line, groom dogs, or wait tables, as long as he had a job.

Yet the rest of the world hadn’t gotten wind of his eagerness to accept any kind of employment. Or if they had, they weren’t saying.

Before he went through the often-depressing ritual of cyber pavement pounding, he would check out what had happened in the world since he had stumbled in last night from an evening of self-consolation and vodka on Capitol Hill. He hit the little orange-and-blue Firefox icon on the dock at the bottom of his screen to bring up the day’s online news…

And was jolted right out of whatever sluggishness he was feeling. He stared at the lead article for that day’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer. A chill coursed through him, and he slowly shook his head as he read the details of that morning’s top story, titled “Brutal Slaying in Capitol Hill.” The article described how an as-yet-unidentified young man had been killed in an alley in the Seattle neighborhood known for its heavy concentration of gay bars and clubs. Thad had to stop reading for a moment to close his eyes because the gruesome details were simply too much to bear. His stomach churned. The man had not just been killed but had been literally ripped apart. Very little blood was found at the scene. And forensics had already determined that there was no trace of metal found on the victim’s flesh, which meant that the deed had to have been done with something other than a knife. The worst detail of all was the fact that the remains bore definite signs that much of the man’s flesh had been eaten. Authorities are keeping details to themselves regarding who—or what—the perpetrator could have been. The story closed with the usual cautions about what to do—don’t travel alone, avoid strangers and unlit places—when something so unsettling and violent occurs.

Thad exited Firefox sooner than he had planned and stared out the window. His heart thumped in his chest. Bile splashed at the back of his throat and a cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He had been in Capitol Hill the night before, having a dirty martini or three at Neighbours, one of the gay ghetto’s most popular hangouts. He wondered if, as he had made his way back to the bus stop, he had passed the killer or killers. If perhaps the killer or killers had eyed him, wondering if he would suffice for their demented purposes. He could see himself through their eyes, being watched from the shadows of a vestibule or an alley as he made his way back to the bus stop on Broadway. He wondered if he looked appetizing. He had been told on more than one occasion that he was “tasty” and “delicious,” but those doing the describing were not thinking of him as dinner—at least not in the conventional sense. He wondered if perhaps the only thing that had saved him was the coincidental passing of a boisterous group from the University of Washington, coming up alongside him just as the fiend in the dark was ready to pounce. He shivered. For once, rejection was a comforting thought.

Rejection, under these circumstances, was the new “getting lucky.”

Still, some poor soul had not been as lucky as he had, and today forensics was probably busy trying to figure out just who this unfortunate soul was. From what Thad had read, it didn’t sound like they had much to go on. Dental records, maybe? What kind of animal would not only kill a fellow human being but also eat his flesh and drink his blood? Was this a human being at all? Thad had heard of bears occasionally making their misguided ways down from the mountains and into Seattle, but they usually got no farther than suburban parks and backyards. And the “bears” that routinely cruised the Capitol Hill neighborhood were of a much more cuddly variety.

Surely, though, an animal couldn’t have been roaming around busy Capitol Hill on Friday night. The neighborhood, on weekend nights, was a blur of barhoppers and partiers, its hilly streets filled with people and cars jockeying for position. Loud and well lit, it was the kind of neighborhood that would scare the shit out of an animal, at least an animal with normal fears and inclinations. This had to be the work of a person, or people, right? And whoever was behind such a thing had to be majorly warped. Thad had a quick vision of pale-gray eyes and enormous canine teeth until he banished the imagery to the back of his brain, grateful for another kind of canine distraction.

That distraction had just sidled up beside Thad, her arrival signaled by a clicking of toenails on hardwood. Thad glanced down at his gray-and-white Chihuahua, Edith, staring up at him with her dark eyes. Her tongue stuck out one side of her mouth, giving her a both comical and wizened appearance. The dog was about a hundred years old, and Thad thought, for better or worse, she was his very best friend in the world. Edith got up on her hind legs to paw at Thad’s lap, indicating to him that he was not the only creature in the house that had to pee first thing in the morning.

Thad got up and, with Edith following impatiently behind, slid into flip-flops and grabbed her leash. “C’mon, sweetheart, let’s take a little walk down to the lake, and then we’ll see about getting us both some breakfast.”

Review: Oscar (Leopard's Spots #2) by Bailey Bradford

One sexy wolf is determined to show a grouchy kitty just how perfect they are for each other.

Oscar Travis has always been different, and not just because he’s a snow leopard shifter. Petite and pretty in a family where even the women are bigger and stronger than he is, Oscar has been protected by them—except for the times when no one could keep him safe. When he had to take another shifter’s life to protect his own family, Oscar’s world became a scarier place, at least in his head, not that he’s going to let his family know that. He will, however, help his dad Henry hunt down the cougar shifter who is trying to destroy one of Oscar’s own, his brother-in-law, Lyndon.

Which is why Oscar finds himself in San Antonio. Curiosity—always Oscar’s potential downfall—is the reason he’s in one of the city’s biggest gay nightclubs. And it’s his bad luck that he is cornered by four obnoxious shifters who are out to ruin his night. Josiah Baker has other plans for Oscar, plans of mates and forever, but once he makes sure his kitten is safe, he’s ditched like a bad memory. Good thing he’s a shifter too, and a determined one who doesn’t shy away from Oscar’s attitude. He sees the hurting man behind the pretty façade, and no one is going to keep him and Oscar from the happy ending they deserve.

Insta stories are not really my thing as a general rule. Fated Mate stories are even less appealing. But… for some reason this series is a lot of fun. It has a serious story arc but it is still light and fluffy with some decent humour and a lot of sexy times. I’ve slowed down on my erotica reading, but I can still enjoy them every now and then. Oscar is one of those times when I enjoyed the heck out of erotic content.

Beware, if you haven’t read book one, this will contain spoilers from Levi.

Oscar is still traumatised from having to kill Lyndon’s brother, but is really trying to hide it from his family while accompanying his dad, in search of Lyndon’s father, to try and get the Tavares siblings to stop trying to kill each other.

On a night out during a brief reprieve from searching, Oscar makes his way to a gay bar in the hopes he’ll get lucky with at least some sexy dancing and a kiss. Enter Josiah, a wolf shifter who comes to Oscar’s aid when a group of wolves try to back Oscar into a corner. Oscar is equal parts furious, and intoxicated by the encounter, and Josiah is silently celebrating for finally finding his mate.

These two are sexy together. I enjoyed their exchanges. They seem to get each other quickly, thanks to the mental bond that has clicked into place, which enables them to read each others thoughts. There is no battle for dominance, and they seem to both just enjoy being together and basking in the sexual chemistry that is happening in their newly formed relationship.

Some of the relationship building was too fast for me. While I get insta-lust, it felt like the mind reading thing created a shortcut for the getting to know you part, which is part of my joy with romance. Looking at it from an erotica point of view, it works fine, but I would have liked more in that space than just the sex.

This is fairly fast paced with the action part of the story. The good thing about it is that Oscar starts to settle into a new role within the family that suits him much better than the role he had.

Josiah just wants to be in Oscar’s orbit and that is really sweet. This story is next to zero relationship angst, which works for me just fine but may be too easy for others.

The larger series arc is interesting, and I’m curious how that will evolve. I like that this small isolated family of Snow Leopards are finally branching out and seeing how they fit in the shifter world.

If you’re into light sexy reads, this definitely fits, and is a great way to lift ones mood if you’re having a rough time. Complete erotic escapism with a decent action plot to round it out. I’d recommend this to most readers.

Review: Surrendered to the Sea by Dessa Lux

When an omega werewolf cast himself into the sea, he never expected someone would be there to catch him...

Omega Devon Griffith feels like his life is already over; he's failed out of school and it's just a matter of time before his parents arrange a loveless mating for the good of the pack. He wants someone to love him for himself, but it seems like he's missed his chance. When he gives in to a dark impulse and slips into the sea, he thinks that one moment of surrender will be the end...

Sea god Lir has spent years living only in the present, forgetting his own troubled past and never worrying about the future. Then his father issues an ultimatum: Lir needs to prove he can care for someone else, or he'll be banished from the sea forever. Lir doesn't even know where to start, until a werewolf falls into his sea and nearly drowns. This is Lir's chance to show he can be responsible for a mortal. He may not know anything about werewolves, but how hard can it be?

When Devon's heat arrives, Lir quickly discovers that caring for him takes more than just food, water, and shelter... and Devon finally feels like he has a future worth looking forward to. Alone together on Lir's enchanted island with a baby on the way, their love quickly blooms. But Devon can't quite forget his life on land, no matter how hard Lir tries to keep him happy in their hideaway. Can Lir and Devon's love survive beyond their magical island, or will too much reality break the sea's spell?

Surrendered to the Sea is an m/m mpreg romance featuring a lost omega werewolf, a lonely sea god, and a happy ending hot enough to melt icebergs!

Devon Griffith is unhappy and slightly depressed as we meet the young Omega aboard a rented yacht with his family in the middle of the sea. Devon doesn’t want an arranged marriage to some Alpha who his family can profit off of for social and financial status, Devon wants to be taken care of, to love and to be loved equally in return. In a moment of despair, he decides to take fate into his own hands and plunges into the cold sea, offering himself to the dark depths if the moon won’t have him.

Lir is a sea god who has displeased Father North aka his dad. He is told he must learn to respect land-dwellers and have a care for their ways even though is domain over the sea does not reach the land. Father North has given Lir the timeline of one year to make this happen or he will send Lir to live among those he holds with such dismal regard. Lir takes this seriously and when he feels a presence in his domain of the sea, and the offer of giving one’s self to his sea, he rescues the land-dwellers and our story begins.

I really have to clear way of reviewing this without giving the entire story away so I will try to be simple about the review.

I adored this book! I know that Devon keeps referring to Lir as an Alpha and while he is indeed one, he isn’t the growly and rough Alpha’s I am used to with shifters. Lir is kind, supportive, protective and a wonderful caregiver to Devon. He wants nothing but to make Devon comfortable and happy and while the threat from Father North is present in his mind, Devon strikes a chord closer to Lir’s heart and that is where his actions come from.

Since Lir as a sea god is part of the sea, he needs to create land for his werewolf to live upon and Lir takes to this with great creativity and care. There is no way to say this but to put it out there…Lir makes a home for Devon, literally. He calls up on the plastic of the sea to come bind together to form an island which he commands moss to grow upon and it becomes a living organism that continues to grow and change into a floating island that later becomes like a reef of sorts that they build their home on. Yeah, the sea god is recycling plastics that assholes put in the ocean to build a home for Devon which is so stupidly romantic, the hippie and environmentalist in me forgets about the disgusting plastics polluting the oceans because Lir is creating an island for Devon to take care of him. He made him an island, folks. Talk about epic declarations, eh?

Anyway.

We get this story told in both POV’s which is lovely because both Devon and Lir are complicated creatures. It’s nice to see the depth and growth of their character through internal dialogue/actions as well as through the eyes of their mate.

So, Devon and Lir get used to one another and start a new life atop the floating island together and then one day, Devon remembers that he is an Omega and what Omega’s are made to do. Yeah, he kinda forgot that he would be going into heat soon, losing track of the days while being thrust into this new odd existence with a sea god who can take many forms, including one with tentacles (yes I had ideas about those tentacles and the heat – judge away) and explains to Lir what will happen with his heat and how much he will need Lir. All Lir wants to do is take care of Devon and he’s looked up mating on Google so he is ready though Devon starts to feel selfish for taking Lir away from whatever his responsibilities are as a sea god.

I will say this…The heat was hot as it always is with the need to fuck, self-lubricating holes made for fucking and a sea god who happens to KNOT during sex. Don’t ask about the knotting, just marinate in it and like it. Mmm Kay? Mmm Kay.

As the time passes during and after the heat, Lir and Devon start to develop feelings beyond what either thought they were made for and it was truly charming to read. I had no idea where a book with a sea god and a werewolf would lead but both of these men were lonely, depressed and yearning for love. They found it in one another but when the heat is successful and Devon laments the loss of his pack; Lir goes beyond what he should to make his mate happy.

There is a bit of angst in this story that made me sadder than I expected to. I adore Lir so much with all he does for Devon. He loves his land-dweller so much that he broke my heart when the angst appeared. How can you not love a sea god who wants to call Devon by an endearment and chooses to call him “Sunlight” because Lir is from the cold, dark depths of the sea? *sigh* I just love him but Lir has issues and he doesn’t remember the reason behind his father’s ultimatum and it’s not until a storm brews between Lir and Devon, that Devon learns the truth from Lir’s brother Mar.

Goodness, but this book packs in some sneaky emotions I wasn’t expecting. It is full of hurt/comfort so much that I feel like I need a tentacle hug from Lir and I don’t do hugs. It was so emotional and the angst made me cry. When Lir remembers the why of Father North’s ultimatum, it’s so freaking sad but he loves his Devon and will do whatever he has to do right his wrong.

Wow. Did I say anything of substance about this book? I am just floating along on this happy cloud having finished it. It’s not your traditional shifter romance as it borderlines a fairy tale with a few moments you just need to accept even though they are a tad outrageous like the laptop and phone, because it was so damn sweet.

That epilogue was adorable and the bit with Zoey made me giggle. I do wonder if they author has plans to make this a series because there seems to be something with Harry and Mar that I would love to see explored.

Tag Team Review: Fight the Tide (Kick at the Darkness, #2) by Keira Andrews

Adrift in a post-apocalyptic world, they only have each other. Is it enough?

A virus that turns the infected into zombie-like killers spreads through a burning world thrown into lawless chaos. Lovers Parker and Adam have escaped to the open sea when they hear a message over the airwaves from a place called Salvation Island—a supposed safe haven.

Orphaned as a child, werewolf Adam has always longed for a pack. He’s eager to investigate the island, but Parker doesn’t think for a nanosecond that the voice on the radio can be believed. He doesn’t trust anyone but Adam and is determined to keep it that way. They don’t need anyone else complicating their struggle to survive. Or do they?

Danger on the high seas can surface in a heartbeat, and if Parker and Adam aren’t careful, the current will drag them under.

This gay romance is a dystopian adventure featuring a werewolf, his boyfriend, and their struggle to find a place to call home.

averaged ratings! ;)

Chelsea - 5 Hearts

“Whatever comes, you’re my home.”

This review won't be very comprehensive. It will be full of the ramblings and ravings of a fangirl!

This book has sexy times (that term is far too tame for what Adam and Parker get up too!!).

He stripped off his clothes and jacked himself, pulling his foreskin back from the glistening head. Spreading Parker’s ass, he spit onto his hole. “You want it like this? Want it rough?”
“Yes,” Parker moaned. “Fuck me ’til your cum drips out and I smell like you all over and—”
Adam couldn’t wait another moment before slamming his cock into Parker’s hole.

It's sweet and funny!

“You’re stuck with me now. You might come to regret it. Probably already do.”
With a laugh that sent warmth through Parker’s chest, Adam shook his head. “Nope. You’re stuck with me too.”
“It’s a real hardship. You’re all sweet and brave and gorgeous. Ugh. The shit I have to put up with.”

And it definitely had me tearing up!

A sob tore out of his throat. “I said I wasn’t broken, but I am.”......
Tears spilled from his cheeks, and he couldn’t dam the flow this time.
“We’re all broken,” Adam murmured, one hand stroking over Parker’s head.

This book was less gorey and less suspenseful than the first, mostly because the boys are at sea for the majority of the story so they come across less creepers. I think it was more emotionally stressful than the first, as Parker has to deal with some pretty terrifying experiences and Adam starts to feel empty without a pack/family. But somehow it was still sweet, funny and a generally positive book. Don't know how Andrews does it!

Everything about this series is perfection to me and I am waiting on tenterhooks until the third book is released!!

P.S. If you haven't read this series put it on your TBR list, like right now! Go go! Do it ;-).

Fantasy Living - 4 Hearts

I have mixed feelings about zombie novels, but this series was definitely a solid win for me. I went from Kick the Darkness right into this story. This book is definitely stronger than the first. It goes into more depth with the psychological fallout of this post-apocalyptic experience, and we really get to see how the environmental, and societal change, directly affects the people and their behaviour.

Parker is deeply affected by the betrayal from book one. He is completely untrusting, wants to go it alone, and has no intention of helping/interacting with others. For all he cares, they can all just die, and he and Adam will be safe.

Adam isn’t so damaged. He feels that his instincts work in his favour, and he is able to determine someone’s intent. It’s that werewolf instinct. He wants to connect with a community/pack, and it is just a matter of convincing Parker that they will be safe. But it’s hard to tell whether Adam’s desire for that pack is driving his decisions without considering the entire situation first.

On a side note, I didn’t read the blurb before picking either of these up, I just saw Keira Andrews, remembered that everyone raved about the first one, and decided to go for it. So imagine my delight when this turned into a paranormal-horror. Two of my favourite genres in one.

The relationship development continued on from book one and made this couple more endearing. I really felt for both Parker, and Adam, and understood them both. I enjoyed this next part of their journey, and really appreciated that there was very little relationship drama between them. It makes me believe they are a solid couple.

There were some plot decisions I wasn’t happy about, but that is just because I really liked where this went and the people it included. I thought that all the supporting characters had good depth, and they were people I liked and wanted to get to know. My main complaint is that the author made me like some people too much for people who may not be part of Parker’s and Adam’s life long term.

Having this story mostly set on a boat was a unique reading experience. I thought that was a great move, and whether the technical stuff is true, I believed it.

I am definitely a fan of this series, and will be lining up for any future novels that come out. I enjoyed that this was horror but the focus was not on the gore. There was enough to create an image, but not overdone.

This book cannot be read as a standalone, so make sure you’ve read Kick the Darkness before you pick this up.

Guest Review: Ravel (Ripples in the Status Quo, #2) by R. Phoenix

When the monsters of myth and lore claimed the world for their own a decade ago, they relegated humanity to the bottom of the food chain. Survival takes every ounce of the skill and cunning Ashton has learned as a human faced daily with supernatural predators. When a chance encounter with a werewolf reminds him surviving isn't really living, he must choose between what he knows and what could be.

Reese hasn't been able to face the world in years. He hides away in his home, rarely venturing out lest he be forced to face what reminds him of all that he's lost. When a human thief breaks into his home one night, he's confronted with the harsh truths of a society he supports through his silence. But when questioning the status quo is punishable by slavery or death, can he risk being labeled him a sympathizer?

Guest Reviewer: Chelsea

I really enjoyed this story, it kept me enthralled until the end and I found the darkness of the world and the lightness of hopeful new love was a well balanced contrast.

This is a world where supernatural beings, or ‘supes’, sought a place among society, but then overran it. Now humans can either live in the slums with no income and no resources, or live as ‘pets’ or slaves to the supe’s.
“Those who had implemented the status quo had promised peace and safety for supernaturals. They had been forced to live in the shadows for so long, afraid of what might happen if so much as a single light swept over them, and the idea of living in the open had been intoxicating. The changes had come at the cost of humanity…”
Reese is a werewolf who has lived in his home in solitude for the past 10 years, mourning the death of his lover. Ash is a human who has learnt not to trust the fragile place humans now hold in society, and steals whatever food and resources he can find. When Ash tries to steal from Reese to save a sick friend, they’re both brought to question the world they live in and the people who now occupy it.

The banter between Reese and Ash was wonderful and Ash was really very funny, which lightened up the book considerably. I could feel the connection between these two, and saw the desperate need for companionship they both craved.
“When had he last felt like the center of someone’s universe? When had someone looked at him and wanted him, seeking to share instead of simply taking?”
I certainly had a decent case of the feels throughout this book, Reese’s loss for his lover, Ash’s distrust of everyone, both of their need for something good and hopeful in their lives.
“He only wished he had something to hope for. Why not true love? Why not some fairy tale story where the beggar got the prince and they lived happily ever after?”
It really did end up being a pretty perfect blend of bleak despair and hopeful new love. It ended on a solid HFN which I really liked given the length of the story was set over the course of a single week, so anything more would have felt unrealistic.

I really hope there will be more to this series as I want to someone disrupt the status quo!

Review: Until Forever Comes (Mates #2) by Cardeno C.

A sensitive wolf shifter and a vicious vampire challenge history, greed, and the very fabric of their beings in order to stay together until forever comes.

Plagued by pain and weakness all his life, Ethan Abbatt is a wolf shifter who can’t shift. Hoping to find an honorable death by joining his pack mates in a vampire attack, Ethan instead learns two things: draining his blood releases his pain and his wolf, and he has a true mate—a vampire named Miguel.

Over four centuries old, strong, powerful, and vicious, Miguel Rodriguez walks through life as a shadow, without happiness or affection. When a young shifter tells Miguel they're true mates, destined to be together, Miguel sends him away. But Ethan is persistent and being with him comes so naturally that Miguel can't resist for long. Their challenge is staying alive so they can be together until forever comes.

Miguel and Ethan were sweet and loving. I adored them together.

Ethan was a shifter who's unable to shift. When he and his pack go to attack vampires, he's drained of some blood, which miraculously helped him shift.  During this attack, he also meets Miguel, who also happened to be Ethan's mate.

Miguel was intrigued by Ethan, but a Mate? Um, no. But he found the shifter irresistible and gave into his urges.

The blood! There was so much blood. And sexiness, of course.

Vampires and shifters did not mate. They don't even like each other, so two mating was unheard of. I really liked the dynamics of their mating and how their bodies responded naturally to each other. Ethan's body produced all the blood Miguel needed to survive and he didn't have to feed from anyone else. In turn, the feeding helped Ethan to shift, when he never was able to before.

Ethan was the cutest thing and I adored him. I just want to put him in my pocket and keep him forever. He was sweet, but stood his ground with Miguel and his insistence on their mating. Miguel tried to stop it, but he couldn't deny the pull or his possessiveness.

The "bad guy" thing... eehh... made me roll my eyes a bit. Mostly, I didn't really get that Miguel was this big bad vampire. He's supposedly really strong and other vampires are scared of him, but I didn't get that feeling.

Until Forever Comes is an easy, relaxing read, and fans of PNR and Cardeno C will  for sure enjoy this.

Review: Forever Fearless by Jeff Erno

The Forever Vampire saga continues…
In the aftermath of unspeakable slaughter, Robbie and Colt have escaped to the wilds of Alaska to face their immortal future. Things aren't so certain for their mortal enemies, Dylan and Issa, Matarian soldiers sworn to hunt them down and slaughter them.
Dylan is poised to begin his first vampire hunt and wants Issa as his partner, but Issa is far more concerned with finding his brother and tracking down the blond boy who nearly died on the battlefield. The entire cast from book one reunites in this thrilling continuation of their story, joined by a host of new faces--friends and foes--whose lives somehow weave together as they cross paths in their efforts to battle evil and attain their own happiness. Humans, Shifters, Daywalkers, and Purebloods confront each other with the guidance of three enigmatic sisters--one a Maenad, one a necromancer, and the other a human witch. Plot twists and surprises mark the paths of these diverse characters, forever fearless in their quest to cling to all they hold dear.

I read Forever Young, the first in this series, last week and I enjoyed it - a lot - but this book feels as though it has gone up a whole notch in the writing. I found it difficult to put down once I'd started it, the characters really drew me in to the story. I'm not sure why exactly I prefer this one to the first, it just seemed to flow better. The characters came to life just that bit more, the storyline was a tiny bit more gripping. Nothing huge - it was just as if the author felt more comfortable with the whole book this time round.

I liked how in this book we are introduced to a wider range of supernatural creatures as well as the characters we know and love from book 1. I can see this becoming a longer series - I have no idea if Jeff Erno has plans in that direction but I can absolutely see many of these characters with their own stories.

Throughout this book we follow several different character journeys until they combine at the end. I invested a lot in all of them and where I'll often have one or two favourites, I truly didn't this time. I enjoyed them all and wanted to know all their stories. If you enjoy vampire stories I'd say give this one a go - and if you're not sure but want something easy to read but that pulls you into the story give this one a go too. Jeff Erno is an author whose contemporary work I already enjoy - and now I know I enjoy his fantasy stories too I'm a happy unicorn.
