Release Blitz: Thick as Thieves (Aster Valley #4) by Lucy Lennox

Author Lucy Lennox and Social Butterfly PR present the Thick as Thieves release blitz! Check it out!

Thick as Thieves, an all-new steamy mm romance that will have you laughing and smiling at every page turn from USA Today bestselling author Lucy Lennox is available now!

Julian:
I've been in love with my best friend since forever. Okay, fine. Like, kindergarten. It started out platonic, obviously, but then became... nope. Still platonic. The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him the two of us are meant to be together.
And now there's no point. All is lost. He's gone and gotten engaged to his high-school sweetheart which means I have to grin and bear it while pretending to be the happy, supportive best man while he prepares to commit his life to a woman I can't even fault. She's great. We've all been friends forever. I know he'll be happy with Erin, just not... just not as happy as he could be with me.

Parker:
I'll admit. Sometimes I press the easy button. Like when Julian Thick had offered me half his sandwich back in grade school after noticing I didn't have any food. Or when I'd needed a date to homecoming in tenth grade and Erin told me she was it. Or when I'd used the one thing that came easy to me, skiing, to get my college tuition paid for. Or when Erin had showed back up in my life six months ago and told it was time to marry and start a family...
But for the first time in my life I'm facing something that's not at all easy. It's my wedding weekend and I've just been left at the altar. Not only that, but when my best friend whisks me away to drown my sorrows in a snowy cabin in Aster Valley, I accidentally discover Julian's been keeping secrets. Big secrets.

The kind of secrets that lead to hot experimental kisses in front of a blazing fire, tenative physical exploration in a way I'd never imagined before, and the kind of intimate, true confessions I'd never even dreamed of between me and the one person who's always been my true home.
But after twenty-plus years of thinking of Jules as my friend without benefits, is it truly possible to change who we are to each other? There's no easy button this time, but I'm willing to do the work. I only wonder if Julian is ready to trust I really mean it.

"An enemies-to-lovers thrill ride!” - Lauren Blakely, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Hostile Takeover, an all-new must-read enemies to lovers MM romance from Lucy Lennox is available now!

It was supposed to be a prank. A silly frat boy dare.

One hot moment in a hidden storage closet. One kiss. No consequences.

But if you get that close to a man with fire in his eyes, you’re gonna get burned, and I was no exception. One taste of Grey Blackwood ruined me for life.

The way Grey sees it, I was the one who did the ruining. I humiliated him. Wrecked his life. Destroyed his future.

Doesn’t matter that he’s clawed his way back and then some. Doesn’t matter that he’s already top of the Wall Street food chain. The man’s ruthless. Heartless. And he likes his revenge served cold.

Now he’s taking down the companies owned by every frat boy who did him wrong. And when he comes for my family’s company, the quiet life I’ve built for myself far away from Manhattan comes crumbling down, too.

But when Grey’s standing in our boardroom, threatening a hostile takeover and demanding I negotiate on behalf of my family, I don’t see an enemy. I see the chance I’ve been waiting for.

The chance for another night in his arms, and hopefully a whole lot more.

Let the negotiations begin.

Excerpt

Within seconds, he’d pulled me down the hallway to a closed door. Once he opened it, I saw the storage room everyone talked about. Shelving reached all the way to the ceiling, and most of it was covered in pristine club hand towels folded into neat stacks. A large ice machine hummed in the corner, and right next to it was an old-fashioned water cooler.
Grey grabbed a paper water cup shaped like a cone from the stack on top of the water cooler and filled it before handing it to me. I sucked it down greedily, if only to get that godforsaken butterscotch flavor out of my mouth.
“Thanks,” I mumbled before moving forward to refill the cone. I brushed my shoulder against his chest as I stepped past him. Suddenly, the room seemed much smaller than it had before. The scent of coffee and laundry detergent surrounded me, but it was overlaid with the barest hint of apple shampoo.
I turned my head to see if that smell was coming from him, but at the same moment, he turned his head toward me to ask me something. The words died on his tongue as we found ourselves nose-to-nose. From this close, I could see his hair was hundreds of different shades of blond. A hank of it had fallen down over one eyebrow. It made him look vulnerable, unlike the proud man who seemed to have his shit together on the golf course and in class.
“Hi,” I breathed.
“What are you doing?” he asked in a weary voice. The air between us was thick and heavy. If I’d been any more sober, I would have chickened the fuck out and run out with my tail between my legs.
But I wasn’t sober.
“I just…I…”
“Ellison.” He spoke my name like a warning.
“You’re smart as shit,” I said stupidly.
“I know,” he replied, meeting my eyes in challenge.
“Why do you work here with all these rich assholes around you? It’s unbearable.”
His face widened in a reluctant grin. “Spoken by one of the selfsame rich assholes.”
I frowned, and Grey’s eyes followed the movement of my lips. My cock liked that. A lot.
“Why?” I repeated breathlessly.
“Good money, better connections. I want to be an investment banker, and the only way to do it well is to work for one of those rich assholes one day. The men in that room control eighty percent of the country’s investment capital. I want a piece of it.”
“But—”
He cut me off with the barest brush of his lips against mine. It was so light, so nothing, he could have written it off as an accident, but it was enough of a spark to light the whole damned stack of fireworks between us.
I lunged for him with both hands, grabbing his face and smashing my mouth against his. He grunted at the impact, but then Grey’s arms came around to hold me tight while he kissed me back.
He kissed me back.
I could barely breathe. It wasn’t enough. My heart hammered in my chest with something like panic. What if he stopped? What if this all stopped and I couldn’t have it anymore? This awkward, grappling kiss was everything. Everything. And I knew right away it was only the beginning.
I wanted more. I wanted him. I wanted to be naked and ready for whatever came next. My dick was out of fucking control right now, and I couldn’t even figure out how to go about getting off. I just knew I wanted to get off with him. With Grey.

Review: Heart 2 Heart: A Charity Anthology by Various Authors

Once upon a time, a bunch of M/M authors wondered… What if a dating app that guaranteed you a love match broke down just in time for Valentine’s Day? What if you found yourself on a blind date with a random guy who might be your opposite in every single way? It could be a disaster. Or… When the code breaks down, fate just might take over.

Eleven of your favorite gay romance authors have joined forces to light up your Valentine’s Day with a collection of sweet, sexy, silly, and hot short stories, featuring a wacky cast of characters chosen from your reader suggestions! Morticians and magicians, superheroes and spies, lawyers and lobstermen, will all learn that love has nothing to do with algorithms… and sometimes you find it in the least-likely places.

And the best part? All proceeds from this collection will go to the authors’ favorite LGBTQ charities, to ensure that love in all its incarnations will be celebrated and protected every single day of the year!

I absolutely LOVE anthologies and I always have one going in the background. They are great to fill in the gaps between books and get introduced to new-to-me authors. Heart2Heart: A Charity Anthology is extra special as the proceeds from the sales of this collection go to charities doing amazing work for the LBGTQ community; The Trevor Project, Bisexual Resource Centre and one-n-ten.

The theme of Heart2Heart is creative and gave the authors a lot of freedom to play and still keep a focus throughout so the stories flow from one to the next effortlessly. Heart2Heart is a dating app that goes sideways as you see with The Set-up and The Fallout, one story broken into two parts that sandwich the rest of the shorts perfectly. The glitches in the software pair up opposites rather than matches, so if you are an opposites attract theme fan, this anthology is going to feed that need.

The Set-up OR How Bailey the Geeky Programmer Lost his Focus
4 Hearts

Bailey is going through the last of the QA process before the Heart2Heart app launches when he gets distracted by the very, very delicious window washer outside his building. Everyone on his floor was checking the eye candy outside, but that hunk of a man only had eyes for Bailey. The flirtation was adorable and I could hardly blame Bailey for cutting his QA process short to go on the date of a lifetime.

Once the app goes live, the mismatches begin . . . .

The Professional Gamer and the Paranormal Photographer by Alison Hendricks
2 ½ Hearts

I liked the MCs separately but didn’t really get a feel for them as a potential couple. They spent a good chunk of time talking themselves out of liking one another and then just kind of decided to change their minds. There was no real reason, they both admitted that there wasn’t a ton of attraction between them. Once they decided to give one another a chance I did enjoy reading their conversations, but I was missing the piece that connected them, I was missing the “why”.

The Magician and the Mortician by A.E. Wasp
4 Hearts

This story was a treat to read. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I really enjoyed the writing style and will be looking for more of her works. I wouldn’t classify these characters as opposites, but they did happen to come together at the perfect time, when each of them really could appreciate the other. Alberto and Mikey were completely charming separately and together it was multiplied exponentially. Mikey’s sense of wonder was utterly adorable and I loved reading Alberto falling in love with Mikey’s qualities.

The Assassin and the Dog Walker by Charlie Cochet
3 ½ Hearts

The characters made this one for me but I think there was just a little too much going on for a short story. A little less OTT and a little more character focus would have bumped this one up at least a full star for me. The humor is well done and well timed throughout and I absolutely could see Lymond and Daniel together. I didn’t really get the need for the jealous ex-boyfriend thing, it didn’t really need to be a thing to make this story.

The Criminal and the Sommelier by Chris Owen
2 ½ Hearts

I really enjoyed the writing in this short story, but it definitely felt like I was reading a snippet of a bigger tale and not a fully fleshed out story. I don’t need to have every detail, but this one felt like it was missing just enough to leave me wanting. The ending was too abrupt for me to have a feel for the MC’s as a potential couple, but I would definitely be interested in reading this one if it were to be turned into a novella at least.

The Superhero and the NSA Agent by Hailey Turner
3 ½ Hearts

Shane and Damian were perfect for one another and I really liked their setup. The story was a little rushed, but I still could sense the connection between the two and believe in an HEA for them. I loved the banter between the two of them once they were getting to know one another and I’ve gotta love and MC who cosplays for kids in the hospital. It’s no wonder Shane swooned so hard so fact.

The Tattoo Artist and the Writer by Lily Morton
5 Hearts

This story was the most absolute swoon worthy treat and I ate up every word of this friends to lovers tale. I was ready for a character driven story by about now and Lily Morton delivered in spades. Noah and Sage had been friends since they were kids and the flashbacks cemented their connection. Heart2Heart was the jumpstart they needed to admit their feelings and the dates they went on were so personal and sweet, I just can’t even with the adorable that was all over this one.

The Uber Driver and the Phone Sex Operator by Lucy Lennox
4 ½ Hearts

The title is misleading to the characters and I appreciated the depth the author was able to get to with these characters in the span of a short story. The title is a description of their first meeting, but there was so much more to both of them and as the story progressed it was obvious Travis and Azrael had to be together. The age gap could’ve had the potential for angst, but the author didn’t go there too hard, so it read realistically and not OTT. I was fully on board with their HEA when it came and I’ll be looking for more from this author too.

The Baker and the SEAL by May Archer
4 ½ Hearts

Oh hell, the setup here was beyond delicious. One MC is a mountain of man, a SEAL who is charming as they come, witty and a big ‘ol bottom. The other MC is a snarky, slightly cantankerous toppy ginger who bakes dreamy desserts in a small town that has become the focus of destination weddings. Their first meeting led to some low key flirting, but a misunderstanding derailed them for a brief time until the lightbulb went on and then after some good natured chuckling it was all forward movement for Cal and Ash. These two were one of my favorite couples and I’ll be looking for more May Archer tales.

The Event Planner and the Electrician by Poppy Denison
4 Hearts

This story was cute as hell and the humor was spot on for the characters. Theo and Harvey were opposites who attracted (and appreciated) and I think that’s where the story appealed to me the most. I liked reading about how much they were attracted to one another because of their differences and Harvey was so shyly charming in contract with Theo’s vibrant color. These two just made me happy together and their story fit them well.

The Lawyer and the Lobsterman by Ruthie Luhnow
3 ½ Hearts

I honestly didn’t have hope for Isaac and Will, but the author changed my mind over the course of the story. Kudos to Isaac for giving the date a chance. He was such a fussy treat I couldn’t help but root for the two of them. Will was OTT with the casually and charmingly obnoxious, but I think he had to be that way to get Isaac to play along. It ended pretty unresolved but that was more realistic than an HEA for them. An optimistic HFN would have been appreciated though, but in my head there is one for them.

The Florist and the Lawyer by Sloane Kennedy
4 Hearts

Harrison was a real dick at the beginning of the story and man is he lucky he got paired up with Nate who is the biggest sweetheart on the planet. Not many other people would have given him a second chance, but Nate is empathy personified and Harrison’s tale of heartbreak brought out all of Nate’s caregiving instincts. Harrison was smart enough to see the potential for happiness with Nate and I’m so glad he was able to see past his own hurt to hope for some future happiness with Nate. The fact that Harrison appreciated Nate for who he was made me forgive his early dickishness pretty quickly and their HEA was perfect for them.

The Fallout
4 Hearts (continuation of The Set-up)

After Bailey returns to work from the epic date to end all dates with Ryder and learns that the little glitch he left behind in the app created what they were all afraid would be catastrophic matches he worked his tail off to get it fixed. He feared for his job and just felt absolutely terrible for the mess. He had no regrets when it came to Ryder though and Ryder was the hero Bailey needed to get through the next couple of days. The whole anthology ends with HEA’s all around and I loved every word of it.

The Magician and the Mortician

Can you tell us a little bit about your characters?
Alberto (42) is a jaded magician who hasn't had any magic in his life since his long-time partner died five years ago. Mikey (29) is a mortician who finds magic and meaning in life through his work with the dead and their families.

Was writing this story easy for you to do? Or was it a little bit outside of your normal writing zone?

Writing is never easy for me, but once I realized why the characters were perfect for each other, the story happened. Writing a short is difficult for me. I tend to write long.

What were some of the reader submissions that stood out to you, and why?
I was happy to see one person mention a Native American man and someone with Asperger's. The only reason I didn't do that was that I felt I would need a longer story to do it justice. And a 'heartbreakingly beautiful assassin' that I really want to write one day.

Since the anthology is only available for a limited time, (90 days) do you have any plans for your story after that?
I expect these guys to make an appearance in a new project that May and I are working on for the fall!

What do you think of the line-up of authors? How does it feel to be in such great company?
I am fangirling like crazy! It's a dream line up, and I am so impressed with how genuinely wonderful everyone has been. It really made me want to write the best story I could.

Other than your own, do you have a favorite story (or two) in the anthology?

That's so mean to make me pick.

Have you ever set someone else up on a blind date? If yes, how did it turn out?
I didn't, BUT, a long time ago, pre-1994, I did have a guy friend over, and one of my girlfriends dropped by. When she left, Pete said, "I'm going to marry that girl." And he did, and they are still married. So I know the things we write about can happen!

If Heart2Heart were to match you with someone, who do you think you'd get paired with?
OMG. Are we talking functioning app or the wonky one we wrote about? Whoever it is, they'd better know what they're getting into dating a writer, and someone who will call me on my crap. Stockard Channing? That would be nice.

Is there anything else that you think would be fun to talk about?

I love to hear everyone's worst and/or best dating experiences.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

It wasn’t until Mikey turned to thank the waitress that Alberto felt like he could exhale. How was this man real? Maybe he was having a hallucination.

He should probably tell himself to slow down, get himself together, but he had zero desire to do so. He wanted to know everything about Mikey. He wanted to meet his family and talk to them about life and death. He wanted to go on long car rides across the country and visit the World’s Biggest Ball of Twine, or Carhenge, or anything.

Never in a million years had he ever thought he would meet someone so fascinating and he was going to carpe the hell out of this diem. Noctis? Nocturn? What was the Latin for night? Whatever. It didn’t matter. He was going to seize it all. All of Mikey’s days, nights, afternoons, mornings, and evenings.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, could this be love at first sight? Was that actually a thing? If it was, how terrifying would that be?

He took his salmon with the barest of thanks, paralyzed by the thoughts in his head.

“So what made you want to be a professional magician?” Mikey asked him. “Besides the fact that it’s super cool, obviously.”

Okay. He could answer that. Small talk. This was good. Normal for a first date. “My abuelo was an amateur magician. He owned a magic shop that I more or less grew up in. I thought he was the greatest guy.”

“How about your father? Is he into magic, too? Is it your family business?” Mikey’s eyes lit up, and he groaned as he took a bite of his steak. “Oh, my god, this is so good.”

Alberto shifted in his seat as Mikey’s groan went right to his cock. “No, my dad is definitely not into magic. He’s an engineer. He was so disappointed when I didn’t go to college. But he grew up pretty poor, and he just didn’t want his kids growing up like that.”

“Kids? Do you have brothers and sisters?”

“One brother, eleven months younger than I am. Freddy is an engineer. And straight and has already provided grandkids, to my mother’s delight. Though she’s always open for more.” Alberto smiled. Luckily, he and Freddy got along great. Freddy was Alberto’s biggest fan, and Alberto doted on his three nieces.

“Did you ever want kids?” Mikey asked, toying with his sautéed string beans.

Truth or what he thought Mikey wanted to hear? Truth. Easier to deal with. “No. Not really. I like being an uncle well enough.”

Mikey sighed and sagged in his chair. “Oh thank god. I don’t either. I feel like gaybies are the newest fashion trend. Seems like every guy I date wants a baseball team of them, and they look at me like I’m a monster when I say I never wanted kids.”

“Let’s toast to a kid-free future, then.” Alberto tapped his wine glass against Mikey’s.

“Glad that’s out of the way,” Mikey said almost to himself as he cut more steak.

The feathered thing in Alberto’s heart fluttered. Mikey was thinking about the future, too. He might be crazy, but at least he wasn’t alone.

Guest Review: Facing West (Forever Wilde #1) by Lucy Lennox

The first book in a new series by Lucy Lennox!

Nico:

I left my family and tiny Texas hometown fifteen years ago to escape small-town gossips and to give my mom and sister the chance at a better life. But when a phone call from an attorney back home informs me that my sister passed away, leaving me custody of her newborn baby, I’m shocked out of the steady life I’ve built for myself running a tattoo shop in San Francisco.

The thing is: I don’t do babies. And I don’t do small towns. Or commitment. And I especially don’t do family. My plan is to go back to Hobie just long enough to sign adoption papers, giving my niece the kind of stable, loving family I could never provide.

But the moment I meet my niece in the arms of Weston Wilde, my sister’s best friend and the town’s handsome doctor, my plans begin to change. Because suddenly, I see a different future. One with the very thing I thought I never deserved: a family. If only I can convince West that I’m not the same good-for-nothing kid ready to bolt when things get tough.

Weston:

There’s one thing I know for sure about Nico Salerno: he was a good-for-nothing as a kid and judging by the purple-haired, tattoo’d punk who shows up at his sister’s funeral, he hasn’t changed. There’s no way I’m letting him take custody of my best friend’s baby.

But the more time I spend around him, the more I realize that his rough exterior is just a shell and that beneath all the tattoos is a scared, insecure man searching for a place to belong. And pretty soon I know exactly where he belongs: in my bed and by my side.

The problem is, he abandoned his family once before, how do I know that if we become a family he won’t do it again?

Facing West is the first in the new Forever Wilde series about the huge Wilde family from Hobie, Texas, whose patriarchs aren’t above a little meddling if that’s what it takes to help their grandkids find true love.

Reviewer: Annika

If you've read Lennox's Made Marian series you can pretty much expect the same set up for this series as well. We have another family with an abundance of gay young and attractive men. Add in a couple of nutty and meddling grandparents and you have the complete dish. The main difference is that this series seems to be a bit saner, more grounded. Doc and Grandpa are saner and more credible than the old ladies in her previous series. Sure they can be a bit out there, but they are sweet and fun. More balanced.

But I’m also sad to admit that I was a bit disappointed by this book. My main issue was West. He got on my everlasting nerve and I never really warmed to him. He was just too judgmental and selfish. He came across like and arrogant prick. And that really rubs me the wrong way.

Didn't he ever wonder why a 15 year old boy leaves home never to be heard from again? What drove him to leave everything behind, everyone he'd ever known. Did he think that a life as a homeless runaway at 15 was all roses and shiny rainbows?? And to then blame everything that went on in the town he left behind on that 15 year old? Just no. And West never really redeemed himself in my eyes, never tried to make things right. He constantly kept demanding things and answers from Nico but never really giving anything in return. And in my book that doesn’t make him a swoon worth guy. (Sorry for the rant guys)

I never felt the connection between Nico and West, but that might be because I disliked the latter so much. And the progression of their relationship didn't really feel natural too me. One minute they are at each other’s throats, fighting and where every word is colored with a lot of distrusts. The next minute, they are suddenly BFFs , hanging out every night with major hots for each other. So yeah, that didn't work for me.

I loved Nico a lot, but he also broke my heart. Cast aside time and again by everyone he’d ever known and trusted, he doesn't believe he deserved to be loved, to be happy. His biggest fear was to love someone (in this case Pippa) only to have them disappear or leave him alone. He’s always alone and looking in, longing for the family that he’s been missing but never felt he deserved. I kept waiting for Nico to be put first. To have someone truly in his corner and fighting for him no matter what. But that never really happened. Sure he had Griff and Rebecca fighting for him, but only from a distance. Everyone should have at least one person championing you and building you up, and it broke my heart that Nico never really got that.

If you are looking for some mindless fluff and aren't too picky with the details you will probably enjoy this book. It is predictable, but sometimes you just need to have that mindless read and get away for a while. And that's exactly what Lennox delivers with Facing West.
