The Inappropriate Bunny by Nell Iris

“Hey, cut it out,” I chuckle. The rapidly moving, slightly cool rabbit’s nose tickling against my side ignores my order. The bunny keeps sniffing and butting his head against me.

“Hey, you. I’m trying to drink my coffee.” I throw my arm back and scratch him behind his ears. He stills and lets out a small grunt.

“Thank you.” After a final scratch, I grab my cup and inhale the scent of the bitter black tar with a content hum. The bunny jumps up on my back and flops down on his side.

“Is that how it is?” I ask with my voice full of laughter and he buffs his cheek against my spine in reply.

His soft fur is silky against my skin and I love our quiet mornings spent like this; he flopped on his side on or next to me, and me drinking coffee and reading a couple pages in my book before it’s time to get dressed and go to work.

When my cup is empty, I put it back on the bedside table and the sound makes the bunny twitch. He jumps to his feet and starts sniffing me. He nudges and sniffs his way down until he reaches the sheet covering the lower half of my body and grabs it between his teeth and tries to toss it out of the way.

“Hey! Stop that!”

He doesn’t listen and soon he’s managed to expose more of my skin. When he honks and sniffs my ass cheek, I bury my head in my pillow and groan. “Seriously, Jonah. If you’re gonna do that you have to shift back. You know your bunny nose on my ass freaks me out.”

He buffs me with his nose a final time, jumps off me, and starts shifting next to me on the mattress.

Soon, I have a warm, cuddly, and very naked man beside me, and this time when he resumes his previous activities, I have no complaints whatsoever.

The End.

Hello everyone and happy anniversary to Boy Meets Boy! I’m so honored to be a part of the celebration. I’m here with a flashfic story and I’m also answering questions asked by my writing buddy Kris T. Bethke. I was in Sweden in the end of October and it was too cold for my brain to work so I couldn’t think of something fun to tell you about myself. Then she jumped in and helped me! What would life be without friends?

I hope you enjoy the story and the interview. And the anniversary celebration, of course!

It’s 3 am, what are you doing?
I’m a night owl, so I’m most likely awake. On occasion I might write, but most likely I’m lying in bed, reading. I love reading. I love staying up late. It’s so peaceful at night. No one expects anything from me, I don’t have to answer texts or emails or even smile. I can just do what I want to and thoroughly enjoy myself.

You get to pick 3 things to eat for the rest of your life, what are they?
Real Japanese ramen from my favorite restaurant Ippudo. Gai Pad Kaprow (Thai Basil Chicken). And Vietnamese Pho. I like Asian food, what can I say? 😊

You win 5 million dollars and have a week to spend it or lose it. Not including charities, what do you buy?
OMG, how do I even spend 5 million dollars in a week? I’d pay my daughter’s student loans, pay my parents’ mortgage on their house, and buy that Jupiter-8 synthesizer my husband has dreamed of owning since he was a kid. I’d buy a nice apartment for us to live in, and I’d spend the rest on airline vouchers so I can fly first class back and forth between Malaysia and Sweden when I’m going for a visit.

You get to pack a 3x3 box to take with you for a month on a deserted island, what’s in there?
Is there food on this deserted island? If no, I’d pack it full of food because I have no intention of starving to death.

But let’s pretend there are edible things available, so I can bring some fun stuff. I’d pack SPF because I don’t want to burn to a crisp. A ton of notebooks and pens so I can at least write during my time there. A few of my favorite books that I don’t mind re-reading, for example Pride and Prejudice. A pillow, because I’m NOT sleeping on a coconut. A how-to-survive-on-a-deserted-island-guide. Water purification tablets – better safe than sorry. Matches, because my making-fire-by-rubbing-two-sticks-together-skills suck. A music player and lots of batteries because I can’t live without music. And I’d fill up whatever space is left with a shit ton of duct tape, because I saw on Mythbusters that it’s very practical in a situation like this.

What does the Mirror of Erised show you?
Interesting question. I’m pretty happy with my life as it is, but I’d love to live closer to my daughter (I live in Malaysia, she lives in Sweden). So the mirror would probably show me us as neighbors.

What’s the first MM book you read? (Or barring that, the first one that made a real impact on you). Nowhere Ranch by Heidi Cullinan. Or rather, the first book I read with two men getting hot and heavy was a MMF I can’t remember the name of. But I liked the M/M aspect of it, so I visited Goodreads to find more. The first one I bought and read was Nowhere Ranch. I LOVED it and was hooked immediately, never to look back. I love the contrast between the very kinky and the super romantic, it makes me all swoony and happy. I’ve re-read it a gazillion times since that first time. In fact: I’m gonna go back a couple questions and add it to my deserted-island box! 😊

3 people you’d love to have dinner and conversation why?
I pick Kris T. Bethke, Addison Albright, and Amy Tasukada. They are three fabulous writers I’ve worked with a lot and known for a long time, and I’d really, really like to meet them IRL. I worry about what we’d eat though, because Ms. Bethke is a very picky eater 😊

Nell Iris author bio and social media links

Nell Iris is a romantic at heart who believes everyone deserves a happy ending. She’s a bona fide bookworm (learned to read long before she started school), wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without something to read (not even the ladies room), loves music (and singing along but let’s face it, she’s not Celine Dion), and is a real Star Trek nerd (Make it so). She loves words, poetry, wine, and Sudoku, and absolutely adores elephants!

Nell believes passionately in equality for all regardless of race, gender or sexuality, and wants to make the world a better, less hateful, place.

Nell is a 40-something bisexual Swedish woman, married to the love of her life, and a proud mama of a grown daughter. She left the Scandinavian cold and darkness for warmer and sunnier Malaysia a few years ago, where she spends her days writing, surfing the Internet, enjoying the heat, and eating good food. One day she decided to chase her life long dream of being a writer, sat down in front of her laptop, and wrote a story about two men falling in love.

Nell Iris writes gay romance, prefers sweet over angsty, and loves writing diverse and different characters.
