Anniversary Shenanigans: Author Visit + Giveaway - Anna Martin

Anna Martin is here today to tell us what she's been reading lately and what she's been up to lately.

What I’m Reading/What I’m Writing - Anna Martin

I recently fell down the THIRDS rabbit hole. Thanks a lot, Charlie Cochet! I read the first book in the series a while back and for the life of me I don’t know why I didn’t keep going. I stormed through the series in the space of a few weeks, and it only took that long because I forced myself not to buy a book a day.

I also spent a few quality days with the newest JD Robb book 'Secrets In Death'. I absolutely adore this series, which is written under one of Nora Roberts’ pseudonyms. I completely adore Nora Roberts in general, if I’m honest. I think she’s a fantastic storyteller and I’m always happy to lose hours with her books.

This year I started self-publishing new work under the Anna Martin Originals banner. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but it took a little push earlier in the year for me to get round to it. The first book that’s been released is called Whiskey Kisses, and it’s a sweet romance set in rural Ireland.

Once again I’m planning to do NaNoWriMo and just like every year, I don’t really have a plan of what I’ll be writing! I’ve got a few stories that have been simmering away, so we’ll see which one jumps to the front of the queue on 1st November.

Here’s a little sneak preview of ‘Whiskey Kisses’…

I ended up going straight to Mam’s from work that night. Whiskey was a slow business, but when there was only one person who managed the numbers side of it (and that person would be me), I often got held up at the end of the day.

It was a short drive back to Mam’s in the rain and I ignored the edges of a headache that were starting to creep in.

The old dog was sleeping on the step when I pulled up in front of the house, and he didn’t move to let me in so I just stepped over him. Dinners at Mam’s could involve anywhere from five to twenty five people, so I was never quite sure what I was walking in to.

“Uncle Jimmy’s here!” a kid yelled, and I recognised the voice as Patrick’s youngest, Fiachra. His wife had gone on a traditional bent when naming their offspring.

“Yes, he is,” I murmured and stepped over another baby sleeping in a car seat… I guessed it was Daithi, couldn’t be sure.

Mam appeared in the doorway to the kitchen, hands on hips, one clutching a wooden spoon.

“Come right here,” she demanded, and I let her pull me into a floury hug.

“So many kids,” I murmured into her shoulder, and she laughed, pulling away to get a good look at me. As always, she undid the top button on my shirt for me. It was an old habit.

“Aye, but we love them. You’ll get around to making some one day.” I smiled and nodded, my standard, silent response to anything that insinuated heterosexuality. “Come and sit down. It’s nearly done.”

About the Author

Anna Martin is from a picturesque seaside village in the south west of England. After spending most of her childhood making up stories, she studied English Literature at university before attempting to turn her hand as a professional writer.

Apart from being physically dependent on her laptop, she is enthusiastic about writing and producing local grassroots theatre (especially at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where she can be found every summer), travelling, learning to play the ukulele, and Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk.

Although her most recent work is in the LGBT romance genre, in the past Anna has worked on a variety of different projects including short stories, drabbles, flash fiction, fan fiction, plays for both children and adults, and poetry. She has written novels in the Teen or Young Adult genre, Romance and Fantasy novels.

Anna is, by her own admission, almost unhealthily obsessed with books. The library she has amassed is both large and diverse; "My favourite books," she says, "are 'The Moonstone' by Wilkie Collins, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee and 'Oryx and Crake' by Margaret Atwood." She also owns multiple copies of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park books and re-reads the Harry Potter novels with almost startling regularity.

Anna claims her entire career is due to the love, support, pre-reading and creative ass-kicking provided by her closest friend Jennifer. Jennifer refuses to accept any responsibility for anything Anna has written.
