This was my kind of story! And really with a title like that I knew it would be right up my alley. For those of you who don't know, my thing is kind of Daddy kink.... in a big way.

So yea 3 stars right off the bat for using that very special word.

Ok to the nitty-gritty. I loved this! This novella was kinky, sexy and as character driven as a kinky novella can be. It was also full of my two favourite tropes, morally ambiguous main characters and attempted rape with the hero swooping in to the rescue.

The story really wasn't that surprising and it was pretty simple in its execution but that was perfect for a novella. I'll definitely reread this when I'm after something quick, fun and sexy.

Recommended for anyone and everyone who enjoys any of the things I mentioned in this review!

Hmmm… I’m not sure why I thought this was my first Merikan read but it wasn’t. However, it's worlds different than Laurent and the Beast which is my only other read by this duo. This was sweet, really sweet and while I know I’m not one to gravitate to fluff, this one didn’t hold my attention. At all. So, I’ll just move on over to my dissenting-opinion-table for one and get this lonely party started.

Dawn has been in love with his brother’s best friend (Mage) and now they’re both adults playing in the same band, The Underdogs. Mage, being older than Dawn has always looked out for him starting from a young age. When Mage saved him from bullies, Dawn’s kid heart fell in love and hero worship began. As both grew older, their bond strengthens and they become inseparable.

Dawn has anxiety, is very sensitive, and comes off as super fragile. Mage is here for it though and has been and continues to be his protector. Dawn feels everything- too much of everything. It doesn’t help that he’s in love and that it’s supposedly unrequited. Until, it isn’t.

See? Mage is soooooo sweet. But, something is missing. There are time lapses that skip over parts I actually wanted to read. How did Dawn and Mage go from a panic attack while kissing to making out and curled in bed together? Tour dates are mentioned without much detail and somehow they go from roughing it at the beginning of their tour to nice hotels? There’s not a lot of sex which is totally fine because it fits Dawn. However, many of the moments where they were apparently deepening their connection happens off page and then mentioned after the fact.

I haven’t read any others in this series and maybe that was a mistake as they could have potentially filled in some of the holes? Maybe not? IMO, not much happened in You. Forever. Always. that will entice me to read the others. It was just okay and not a ride that I will continue. As always, while I won’t recommend it, YMMV.

I, too, just came for the pain and the pain did #TeamPain proud. Just look at this list!

In other words...

Aside from a few ill chosen words Asher took to his newly discovered dominant tendencies like a duck to water. Fancy that. AND they refrained from jumping into the deep end which I appreciated. Asher is diligent in his studies on how to fulfill Sid's needs and since he's charismatic as all get out he soon finds experienced dominants that are willing to give advice/mentor him.

Sid... *heavy sigh* I did not care for. Brattiness is one of the things I try to avoid in my kinky reads and though Sid doesn't consider himself a submissive, he sure acts like one and his attitude grated both inside and outside of the scenes. Though he does straighten up once he's gotten enough endorphins floating in his system. But I never took to him. He's a pill and why he's a pill wasn't explained well.

Most of the stuff outside of the scenes fell flat for me. From the beginning I felt like I got dropped into the middle of a story and had to scramble to figure out the backstory. I'm not sure if it was explained better in the first one or if it was deliberate but neither character was developed beyond a certain point and there's only so much I can just accept as 'because reasons'.

Some of The Underdogs were interesting and added to the narrative positively which was surprising. Because rockstars. However, I've no clue what the purpose of Sid's sister's storyline was. They save her from the cult and then that's pretty much it other than her being window dressing periodically. Perhaps she will crop up later but it seemed like a quasi-melodramatic squirrel to me.

As for the couple and their coupletry... the beginnings of Sid and Asher's relationship skeeved me and maybe I read more into certain things than I should've, but at one point it seemed as though Sid was using Asher for kink because he was a live human and one he knew he could manipulate, at multiple other times he seemed embarrassed by him and at another point Asher seemed to be essentially blackmailing Sid into a relationship.

None of that equals going the distance in my book but then all the sudden they take a quick turn into Sapsville that was unexpected given Sid's general fussiness and seeming aversion to Asher. Asher, on the other hand, has been gaga over Sid since always so one would think he'd be a permanent resident on Cloud 9.

One would be wrong.

The back and forth went on far too long. Their angsting over the others feels became redundant and I questioned whether or not an editor had a go at this book at all. It also needed to be proofed.

While I liked the kink I would only recommend this to fans of pain play as the rest of the narrative requires quite of bit of reality suspension or if you're generally a fan of these authors, but my opinions are my own and most of the reviews are positive so YMMV.

Jeremy was on his fifth coffee. Or had it been only the third one since the new day started at midnight? It didn’t matter as long as the caffeine made his heart beat fast to transport adrenaline all over his body. His chair was deceptively comfortable, and he was starting to consider switching to something simple, with no padding and a lot of edges, just so that he wasn’t so tempted to let his head fall back.

He’d been playing for sixteen hours straight just to finally get to the last boss, Vuxogon. The villain lived in a dark tower surrounded by dark clouds and even darker rain, but Jeremy was climbing up its tall walls, and in a matter of seconds, he would be reaching the window leading to Vuxogon’s lair.

He wiped his sweaty hands against his pants as the introductory animation started, and he allowed himself to squeeze his eyes a few times in order to relax the muscles around them. Still, sand was a prominent presence under his eyelids.

The camera dove into the large room at the top of the ancient tower, presenting the huge fireplace filled with flames, the colorful flags of kingdoms subservient to Vuxogon’s empire. And then there was the man himself—a dark, brawny presence standing behind a silk curtain that divided the chamber in two.

Vuxogon looked over his shoulder with a frown, a large copper bath steaming right next to him. “Oh. I wasn’t expecting you so soon,” he said in the same dark voice Jeremy had heard him use on the battlefield.

Before Jeremy could even lift his sword to seize the moment and cut the head of the beastly man, Vuxogon spun around, and his dick swung into view.

Jeremy stilled, his brain pixelating when Vuxogon’s large hand touched his bare—where the hell was his armor?—chest.

Vuxogon smirked and leaned closer, planting a kiss on Jeremy’s lips. “If I’d known it was you, I would have surrendered long ago.” The words were more like a purr, and Vuxogon licked along the seam of Jeremy’s lips.

Pleasure jolted throughout Jeremy so abruptly, he jerked away, only to see his IKEA lamp swing over his head.

A female voice was calling his name, but when his chair crashed to the floor, all he had in answer was a weak grunt.

“Jeremy! What are you doing at five in the mornin—” Mom gasped looking down at him, only to storm back into the corridor. “Cover yourself, for God’s sake!”

Still groggy, and with a stiff, aching back, Jeremy looked first at the clear outline of his erection, and then at Vuxogon’s face grinning at him from the computer screen.

He needed to lay off the coffee. “Sorry, mom!”

Gray's Shadow ended up being soooo different to what I expected and Shadow was definitely sooo different to what I had imagined. Shadow ended up being one of the sweetest characters of the series, that's including Laurent, and he looks like this…

So yummy!

Gray was difficult to begin with and he did annoy me because Shadow was such a sweetie, I felt very protective of him. However I felt I understood Gray's struggles and while he did act like a bitch at times, I liked how it all ended.

The sex is off the charts, which you'd expect nothing less from KA Merikan. The magical aspect wasn't as creepy and previous books and everything is slowly coming to a head.

Obviously for those who don't know, this is a series that needs to be read in order. This book is not a standalone, but the rest of the series is just as good as this book, so well worth the read!
