Review: College Boys (Men of Holsum College, #1) by Daisy Harris

When soccer star Chris Fischer moves next door to an openly gay classmate, he doesn't realize the wall between their rooms will be so thin he'll hear his neighbor's every move. But soon he and Peter become friends, and Chris is intrigued—imagining what happens on the other side of the wall.

Active on the Queer Student Council, Peter Cohen wishes he wasn't so damn hot for his straight neighbor. He can't tell if Chris is flirting or in denial or what, but Chris's innocent overtures lure Peter into flirtation that throws his world into chaos. Peter doesn't want to date a closet case, but he desperately, passionately wants Chris.

Soon Chris must choose whether to run away from his new feelings or embrace a relationship with the guy he loves. And Peter must decide if he can give his heart to a guy who hasn't yet figured it all out.

A story just about every MM reader read...except me.

You know what they say...

Love that episode.
Anyhoo, what can I say that hasn't been said already? Probably not much.

Set in Vermont, Chris, Tennessean straight college soccer player moves into a single dorm room that has been shoddily split into two singles rooms with a paper thin wall to separate him and his neighbor. His neighbor is Peter, a gay student who Chris had a morning wood, totally not gay encounter with earlier in the year.

Uh-huh.

So while Chris gets to mourn his mother's passing in peace away from his teammates, he also gets to know Peter and they become friends. And masturbatory helping aids? Well, the wall separates them, so...it's totally not gay. Right?

I came for the 'out for you' but was pleasantly surprised with the additions to the plot. I liked Chris mourning. (wished it didn't get pushed to the wayside once the sexy times started. But who wants dead mom thoughts when boners are present?) I really liked Chris working through accepting that his sexuality wasn't as concrete as he'd thought - though the homophobic teammates were assholes and sometimes Chris made dick moves, his heart was in the right place. I'm glad it wasn't another gay boy dating a closeted boy story.

And the sex read natural. I liked the progression. Well most of it. And my smut loving heart rejoiced when I got the double whammy. You know what time it is: Virgin meets Butt Virgin Time

*purrs* And tears (during sex).

There were things I felt were too soon like the level of HEA. Not saying twenty-somethings aren't that mature but...virgins making such weighty promises after such short amount of time? *raises eyebrow* Methinks the hormones might be talking here. Also while I did applaud Chris' acceptance...it might've been a little hasty.

Overall, enjoyable story. It's hot, there's a solid plot and I'll be back for more of this series.

Review: David's Selfie by Daisy Harris

When David, a single father, vows to get laid just once before the year ends, he doesn't figure on losing his cell phone—and with it one very revealing picture. Lucky for him, his phone is found by a disarmingly handsome man who might be perfect for the kind of casual Christmas fling David is after.

Go-go dancer Craig never would have guessed that the guy with the cute cock shot would turn out to be a doctor. Or that he’d find himself lying about his night job and worrying David will find out the truth. To complicate matters, each of their hook-ups requires days of planning. Yet before he knows it, Craig has a new boyfriend, and possibly a whole new family.

David’s ready to dive head-first into something new, but if Craig’s going to commit, he’ll need to come clean about his job, his past, and—most of all—the naughty picture that drew him to David in the first place.

Warning: Contains a male exotic dancer and extremely intimate photography. May contain traces of Zumba, bad roommates, and sad childhoods.

Call your doctor if after six hours you still can’t get the grin off your face.

My first load of Santa jizz and I'm in a great mood. No Christmas sugar induced coma either.

Why "David's Selfie" works for me?

  • It's not annoyingly sugar sweet where the Jizzmas spirit miraculously saves all the problems.
  • The author seems to have the same sense of humor as me. Funny is as funny does, I actually laughed at few scenes. (The first chapter with the crotch selfie? *snickers*) Oh, I like it when I share the same humor. (I'm saying this in my Stewie voice)
  • And this was realistic! The reactions, the characters and the plot - I buy it. I always root for the underdog MC, the MC that has to work for the life they have. Craig, the Masters student who works two jobs, is an ex-foster kid and never had a sweet life? He was a pleasure to read. The other MC, bisexual widower, David and his three-year-old, Maia, they were endearing and real too. Go figure, a toddler who acted her age instead of a miniature adult.

Told in alternating POV, this holiday novella starts with a crotch pic. How cool is that? A romance that starts with a lost cell phone and selfie...which grows into a HEA romance.

David is a doctor who should be at the prime of his life. He's only thirty. But he has a three year old and is already a widower. He is lonely and trying to get back into the dating game. So to try to entice potential suitors in this day and age, he takes a picture of his Johnson. In a comedy of errors, he loses his cell at a club. And the guy who he ogled but never thought he'd have a chance with, the hunky go-go boy, Craig finds the phone. And so begins their mating dance.

Craig was a nice guy. He proved to be more than a pretty face and hot body. He wanted substance and he finds that in David. Maybe not the built-in family with Maia (loved his reaction to her). He knows David would be worth it though in the beginning there are a few factors that work against them. They make it work, be it conflicting schedules, no available places to hook up, a wicked cold or not fully opening about their entire life. There is some "let-me-not-tell-what-I-really-do-for-a-living-since-you're-a-professional-and-I'm-not" aka "you're too good for me" but it wasn't heavy handed.

My issues: The story starts strong, ends rushed.
  • I think the 'I love you' bit also was premature. Maybe not on David's part as he's used to being in a relationship but Craig? The kid who couch surfed, has been kicked out at seventeen and lived in his own, has abandonment issues, never been in a relationship, is hard to crack (as he admits)...I expected more of an internal struggle from him. It's hard to go from being independent and not needing another person to opening up. Maybe that part is just me, I guess it could happen. I just question if it would truly be Craig's reaction.
  • And I love epilogues, love them. This one...it wasn't really necessary. It also read rushed.

Overall a great story. Not too merry sweet, a little hurt /comfort, some laughs, hot sex, and a heavy dose of reality.

And the best part? The story is not a one trick pony that relied on the selfie...it is way more than a dick pic. It's a happy romance, light low on the angst and relatable.

Review: Townie and the Twink (Men of Holsum College #3) by Daisy Harris

Insightful to a fault, Gabe Ashton knows Nick Flynn’s gay even if Nick doesn’t. And after seeing how the townie looks at his "buddy," Gabe knows Nick is in love with a guy who’ll never love him back. So Gabe invites Nick to campus parties and to hang out with new people. But soon their friendship turns physical, and Gabe wonders if he’s in just as much denial as Nick is.

Nick’s straight—or so he’s always assumed. But he can’t deny that the things he’s doing with Gabe are hot. More than that, he likes Gabe in a way he’s never liked anyone else. Well, anyone else except his high school friend, John.

The hardest thing to give up is a fantasy, and the hardest thing to face is the truth. But if Nick wants the man standing in front of him, he’ll have to give up the one he never had.

Well, hell. Could these college boys get any hotter? I don’t know if I could handle it if they did.

So if you’re in the mood for some light, sexy fun… c’mon, let me tell you about Nick & Gabe.

Nick is straight. Of course he is, why else would he let his new friend Gabe blow him? Gabe has excellent gaydar. It’s like his superpower and knows Nick is gay at first sight. He slowly but surely gets Nick to realize this about himself as well.

Daisy Harris knows how to write some good sexual tension.  Oh my, with the tentative touches, the accidental rubbing and the innocent mutual masturbation… I thought I would burst into hot flames and they hadn’t even had The Sex yet. But when they did have The Sex? It was hot and rough, just how I like it. *licks lips*

So, yeah. They were hot. But Nick & Gabe were also really sweet. So sweet I caught myself talking to my book out loud saying, "Oh my gah! They are so friggin' cute." And they were. I loved how their relationship developed from friends (with benefits) to an eventual real relationship.  They really did care about each other and it definitely showed through their interactions. So darn adorable.

My only tiny gripe is the whole 'I'm not gay' thing went on a little too long for me. Seriously, you had a guy’s dick in your mouth. That is definitely gay territory. How in denial could he possibly be? But, I was glad it didn’t really change how he treated Gabe. He knew he liked Gabe and that he was someone special so he continued to treat him as such.

This series is basically all sex and fluff. But it’s goooooooood sex and fluff.

Review: Diva and the Frat Boy by Daisy Harris

Nathaniel Reece is savvy and fierce and wouldn’t give boring-ass Greg Sanders the time of day, except Greg is the president of a fraternity Nathaniel wants to join. But once Nathaniel gets a taste of the ferocity under Greg’s cool exterior, he can’t stop himself from trying to lure the uptight frat brother out of his shell.

The face of gay life on campus and a crusader heading off to law school, Greg doesn’t see any problem with seducing the flamboyant and exciting Nathaniel. But that’s before he finds out his fraternity brothers are refusing Nathaniel's pledge bid. Greg’s athletic and masculine and has never had to deal with the censure of his friends or the odd looks of strangers, but if he’s going to be what Nathaniel needs, he’ll have to be comfortable not just being out, but also standing out.

“’C’mon. You look amazing. And if you’re a good boy and stay hard for me, I’ll fuck you behind a dorm halfway through the party.’

‘Yes, Daddy.’”

Flirty, hot, fun with a bit of kinky dirty sex. Yeah, this is so my kind of book.

Nathaniel isn’t going to give lame-o Greg the time of day if Greg’s not going to pay attention to him. Yeah, he thinks Greg is hot, but if he’s not going to give Nathaniel the attention he needs then that’s just too bad for Greg. He’s missing out all Nathaniel’s fabulousness. Little did he know… Greg was just waiting for the right time to pounce. And, oh boy, did he pounce. Rawr.

These two were so effing hot together with their rough sex, their diiiiiiiiiirty dirty talk and the daddy kink. Daddy kink is a hit and miss for me, here it’s a total hit.  It was just every once in a while and just during the sexy times. Just how I like it. But back to the rough stuff, Mr. Conservative Greg turned into Mr. Bossy Toppy Topperson in the bedroom  -erhm, and outside and in the alleyway and basically anywhere they decided to bang the hell out of each other.  They held nothing back in this department and were able to have some kinky new experiences together.  Experiences that I very much appreciated.

There was just enough drama and angst to keep this novella light and fluffy.  There were some serious issues that arose, especially with hate and gay-bashing, but it didn’t take over the story and were dealt with realistically.  There were some hints as to struggles Nathanial had to deal with during high school and a little about his current situation with his mom. We got a glimpse and that was it, I would have liked to know a little bit more and to have Nathaniel share his troubles with Greg. But, that might have bogged down this light and fun read with too much angst.

The epilogue! Oh, the epilogue. I’m such a sap, so I live for epilogues.  I loved that it was later down the road since these guys had some struggles to overcome and it looked like just a HFN for them. But with the epilogue they got their well-deserved, solid HEA that I was dying to see.

I’ve said it once, but it’s worth repeating: flirty, hot, fun with a bit of kinky dirty sex. What more could you want with a couple of college boys? Not much.
