What are your favorite M/M themes?

I know I write some crazy shit but I do tend to build on some pretty generic themes. I’m a huge fan of Opposites Attract, and by association, Enemies to Lovers. There’s something so appealing about people who are just so intrinsically different, and there’s a lot of fun in just letting the characters be themselves and work out their issues on their own terms. I mean, what’s a relationship without a little (or a lot!) of conflict? I’m also very much into Hurt and Comfort, probably as a reflection of how I deal with my own relationships in real life: a constant, undulating wave that crests with violent outbursts and screaming matches, followed by falls into long periods of saturated sweetness and a hell of a lot of cuddling.

What books do you consider Desert Island Keepers?

This one’s tough for me, especially considering my choices aren’t from M/M! I guess I can reread Chuck Palahniuk’s Lullaby forever. He has such a wicked way with tragic characters, who, let’s be real, form the foundation of a lot of my stories. I feel that the climax for this book in particular is so exemplary of that gift of his, of creating a moment that is at once so terrifying, macabre, yet beautiful. And I have to confess that Anne Rice’s books basically made me realize just how much I love men. There are lots of them to lust over in the series, but I’m happy to take just Interview with the Vampire to a desert island with me.

What's your go-to tasty beverage?

Diet Coke, but preferably Coke Zero, now better known as Coke Zero Sugar. Can’t live without it. Delicious and clearly the key to immortality, if we go by how well-mummified Karl Lagerfeld continues to be.

Do you have any secret talents? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have a fairly extensive list of worthless party tricks. I can pick things up with my toes, or even pinch people with them. I can crack my knuckles with enough force to make even grown men cringe. I can waggle my ears, and tie cherry stems with my tongue in what I understand is a fairly timely manner. I am also very, very good at flirting with men, seducing them just long enough to show them the monstrous side of me, then subsequently sending them running screaming from my life.

If you had to choose to be one magical beast, what would it be and why? (you don't have to say unicorn...but we won't say neigh either)

This is so cutely phrased that I’m tempted to say unicorn, but I’m trying this thing where I pretend that I’m capable of forming my own opinions. I always shied away from dragons, thinking they were so generic, and because in my heart of hearts I thought I belonged to House Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, when it turns out I was a Targaryen all along. Defining traits: passion, emotional volatility, potential madness, and a tendency to burn everything around them. It's me! Dragon it is.

Who's your favorite porn star?

This is so tough, I have so many faves! Of the inactives, hands down, I’ll have to go with Krys Perez. Gorgeous boy, and what a talented mouth. Do straight ones who used to do gay for pay count? Because Michael Vegas (formerly known as James Oaks) is an incredible stud in my book. There’s a video of him out there coming prematurely because he’s so into his partner. You can see him glance apologetically off-camera right before he blows his load. Then, instead of stopping out of exhaustion or letting the director cut the scene, he goes right back to fucking. No breaks, no edits. What a champ. Break me off a piece of dat.

Do you have author envy? Whose words do you read and think, "GAH, I wish I wrote that!"?

It’s a tie between the late Terry Pratchett, who had an unmatched cleverness with twisting humor and words, and George R.R. Martin, who can use the barest amount of sentences to give you volumes of history about a character who, almost inevitably, is going to die in the next scene anyway.

Any new projects you're currently working on?

None at the moment, since the completion of the Vertex trilogy. I’m taking a break to shuffle my furniture, realign my chakras, and figure out what’s next.
