Chapter One
“So,” Kyle says. He slinks into Jenny’s office, glad he wore his stretchy jeans when he pulls a chair out from the table and turns it around so he can straddle it. Even with the give in his jeans, they still pull tight across his quads.
Jenny doesn’t glance up from her computer.
“Remember that time I introduced you and Charlotte?” Kyle asks, undeterred by her obvious disinterest in him. He and Jenny have been best friends for what seems like forever, and they both work from their apartments—Jenny does photography, Kyle does graphic design—and if she didn’t want to be bothered, then she would’ve closed her office door.
As it is, she’d left it wide open, and Kyle is happy to take advantage.
At the mention of Charlotte’s name, Jenny looks up, a smile on her face. They’ve been together for five years, but her expression always softens whenever Charlotte’s mentioned as though they’ve only been dating for a few weeks. Kyle thinks it’s sickeningly cute. He hopes one day someone will look like that when his name is brought up.
Jenny registers the rest of what Kyle’s said and her smile is replaced with something more guarded, suspicious. “Last time you opened with that, we almost wound up in jail.”
“Exaggeration,” Kyle says.
“The time before that you made me go bungee jumping with you.”
“That was awesome.” There’s nothing like the rush of adrenaline as he plummeted toward the earth. Then, right when he thought his harness was going to fail and he would splat, it caught him with a jerk of reassurance. Kyle had loved it. Jenny…not so much.
“I’m afraid of heights.”
“Which meant you were incredibly brave on top of being a good friend.” Kyle needs to get to the point. He’s on a break from his work because all shades of red now look the same to him, but he has a project to finish before the day is over. “This is a favor that’ll benefit us both.”
Jenny continues to look skeptical.
“I want you tie me up,” he says.
Kyle and Jenny have been roommates, have worked together, and have scened together throughout their long and storied friendship. They’ve never slept together, because Kyle’s bisexual, and while Jenny enjoys men on an aesthetic basis, she prefers sex with women.
They frequent the same club, Enchanting Encounters. Jenny does rope demos and occasionally ties up a close friend, but she isn’t as involved with the casual scene as Kyle. She’s been pulling away since she met Charlotte, going mostly to keep Kyle company or catch up with their friends there.
Kyle, on the other hand, is still searching for someone who wants him for more than a couple of sessions a month. He wants a Dom who wants him back and so far, he hasn’t had any luck. He’s hoping his luck is about to change.
Jenny abandons even the pretense of working. “Is this about the new guy?”
He grins. “Who else?”
Kyle spends a lot of time at Enchanting Encounters. Working from home means he’s able to set his own schedule, which allows him to sleep in after a night of play or take an early afternoon if that’s what works better with his partner’s schedule.
Sometimes, he’ll go to the club to have a drink or chat with his friends, but more often he’s there with the intent to pick-up or because he’s part of a demo.
Last week, things got interesting, because there was a new guy.
The BDSM world is a small one, and Kyle has known most of the people at Enchanting Encounters for years now. Someone will bring a friend sometimes or someone will move into the area or move away, but it doesn’t happen often, which means it’s always exciting when there’s a new face.
Unfortunately, it also means there’s a lot of competition for the man’s attention, and Kyle needs a battle plan.
The first time Kyle saw New Guy it was a normal Friday night and he had a drink in hand as he did a sweep of the bar to see if anyone caught his eye. He hadn’t come in with a particular scene in mind. Some nights, that made it easier to find a partner while other nights it made it more difficult.
That Friday had been a difficult night. Since he wasn’t sure what he wanted, no one popped out at him. If he wanted a good spanking, then Renee was his go-to, but he wasn’t feeling it. Same with a bit of bondage and a pegging, which is what Alexa would give him. Dylan was strutting around in his full leather gear, but Kyle wasn’t in the mood to have to work and Dylan always makes him work.
The only person who drew his interest was TJ, Kyle’s favorite bartender, and while TJ flirts with anyone who seems receptive, he doesn’t have sex with club members. It’s a shame, but Kyle can respect his choice.
Kyle was considering a second drink when his eyes landed on someone at the far end of the bar. New Guy was, well, new, which immediately made him interesting. What kept his attention was the expression on the guy’s face as he talked with Lou.
The guy was completely captivated even though Kyle knows from personal experience that Lou isn’t the most interesting person to talk to. Lou’s gorgeous, especially when he has red welts against his almost inhumanly pale skin, but he’s not the most thrilling conversationalist.
Still, New Guy leaned in like nothing in the world could pull him away.
Part of the reason Kyle scenes is he loves having the full attention of another person on him. If New Guy can be that intense during a conversation, then Kyle wants to find out what he’s like in a scene.
He didn’t look away from Lou once, didn’t give Kyle a chance to catch his eye, and Kyle eventually had to move on. He didn’t go home with anyone Friday night. A couple of people approached him, but he turned them down. New Guy was the only person on his mind, and it wouldn’t be fair to anyone he scened with.
Anyway, Kyle didn’t have a chance to talk to New Guy on Friday night, but he’s determined to change that. The guy is attractive and he has the kind of focus Kyle craves.
“You’re not the only one asking about him,” Jenny says.
Kyle shrugs. “He’ll want me once he sees me.”
“Modest. So, what’s your big plan, do a bunch of demos until he wanders over to see one?”
That’s exactly his plan.
Jenny groans. “Are you serious?”
“It’s a good plan! I’m hot, I’m an incredible sub. And while I’m waiting for him to notice me, I’ll be doing scenes I like. Plus, Wanda’s been after me to do some more demos. I’m good for business.” Kyle doesn’t bother holding back his smirk.
Jenny reaches across her table to shove his face away. “You’re terrible.”
“But you’re going to help me.”
Jenny sighs. “Because you got me and Charlotte together? That won’t work as leverage forever.”
“You’re going to help me because you just got a new order of rope in, and you know I look gorgeous in lavender.”
“Ugh. Fine. I’ll do a demo with you. But you’ll let me tie you up for a photoshoot. Unpaid.”
Kyle doesn’t bother to hold back his grin as he says, “Deal.”
“I’ll hang you upside down,” Jenny threatens.
It’s an idle threat. She likes to suspend him, but usually not upside down.
“You’re the best,” Kyle tells her. He stands up, smacks a kiss to her cheek, and leaves to finish the rest of his project. He needs to be on top of his work this week or he won’t have the time to hang around the club and put Project: Notice Me into effect.

Review: Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper (Dick and the Sidekick #1) by Isobel Starling

I had a lot of fun reading this Christmas novella. It’s got humor, steam, a bit of mystery and did I mention steam? Detective Fox definitely read like the first in a series to me. Not that that is a bad thing, but there was necessary setup to the characters, plus the mystery plus the lead in to further episodes to cover in a novella length story, so much was touched on without a ton of detail. Again, not a bad thing and I’m hoping the bits I want more of will be further explored in coming tales. If they are, then I can see this as being the kind of series you want to reread once you get to know everyone and the whole series will end up balanced and complete.

The mystery isn’t overly mysterious and for me that worked considering the detectives here were not detectives by any means, so anything more complex would have been too unbelievable considering the time that was dedicated to solving the Christmas crime. The fun was in Tom, Eli and their band of merry elves working together to figure out how to be heroes so they can get a little face time. Tom is an actor after all and while I wouldn’t exactly say he’d been disgraced, he did have a serious slump going on with his recent scandal in the press.

I liked reading about Eli and Tom together and feel like we are just at the beginning of something with them. That pacing worked well even though that is a big part of the bits I want more of. If their relationship evolves how I’m hoping, the progression of their togetherness will be better than any mystery, and then the mystery can be a fun vehicle to move these guys forward. There is some delicious kink that the author tapped into that was a total treat and I most definitely need more of that. What I read was complete but because I loved the unexpected avenue the author went down with Tom and Eli, it felt like such a tease which has got me hooked and ready to read book two.

Holy mother of god! I need a moment to compose myself after that ending!! Phew, what a ride.

So this story is a continuation of Grif’s Toy, but is from Wes’ POV. Sweet, sexy, dominating sadistic Wes….

Much like Grif’s Toy, we visit different points in Wes’ life in a random order. I was happy to see most of the book was set within the time period of Grif and Wes being together. The story starts right where we left off at the end of Grif’s Toy, and follows them over their next two years together. We also get to see Wes when he’s seventeen and first getting an idea of his dominating side, when he’s in his early twenties at boot camp and coming across his more sadistic side, and then when he’s thirty-ish and seeking guidance from a well known Dom, Thomas.

Wes has experienced some pretty terrifying moments in his life and has buried his guilt and shame so deep down that no one, not even Grif is aware of it. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book waiting for the moment he told Grif. That last 15% was super full-on.

The depth of emotions experienced and displayed in this book were just wonderful. I absolutely adore Wes and Grif. The love and connection between these two is so palpable, and it turns what could be an overwhelmingly sadistic love story into a very sweet and romantic one.

They are just as mind-blowingly sexy together as they were in the first book. God Wes is one twisted mother-fucker and I absolutely adore him for it!!

“Your orgasms will always have to be fucking earned. Every. Single. One. Long gone are the days where you were able to take them for granted. Today will be no different. I’m gonna beat you, I’m going to make you scream, and I’m gonna fuck you like I own you— because I do. After all that, I’ll uncage you and start again….”

Oh yes, you read right, there is now a cock cage! And Wes is proud as punch ;-).


There were a few moments that felt a bit rushed. I didn’t really feel any connection between Wes and Thomas, especially not enough to elicit the response Wes had to that particular situation (sorry no spoilers :-P ). It was one of Wes’ more guilt ridden memories and I can see why, as it was fairly terrible and seemed so at odds with who Wes is as a person. I guess I could understand that reaction more if it was someone who he felt as much about as he did Grif, but I just didn’t see that with Thomas.

This can’t be read as a standalone, so if you haven’t read Grif’s Toy definitely read that first. This series won’t be for everyone, it's got far too much sadism/humiliation for people who want a fluffy love story and far too much fluff for people who want a sadistic story, but I absolutely loved the balance. That epilogue though, phew... prepare the tissues! I haven't been able to think of much else in days.

Highly recommended of course.

Review: Normal Enough (Wrench Wars #2) by Marie Sexton

“So in other words, I may be a freak, but you like it?”

There is little to no connection with the first book in the series. It’s not only that the author is a different one but that there is just a mention or two of the Wrench Wars TV program. That’s all about it. So if you expect the characters from the previous story to appear, you’ll be disappointed.

Once you come to terms with that, there is no reason not to enjoy this story. It’s entertaining, there are lots of hot scenes considering the few pages, and the MCs are endearing enough. I admit I thought this book would be a forgettable story, but then there was this little fact that made it stand out from the rest: certain muscle cars turn Kasey on. And Brandon has a “fetish of fetishes”.

I think that’s the strong asset of this book. Characters that are in close of the limits of the “normal” range who find in each other the acceptance they fear they can’t find anywhere else, at least in Kasey’s case. Brandon is more confident in what he wants and, unabashedly, he seeks it.

Not very extreme at all. There is no “car sexualization” but it was odd enough to awake and maintain my curiosity for the short while the novel lasted.

Maybe sometimes it’s forced. When Brandon numbers all the boyfriends he has had in his life (he’s not that old, and apparently, he has a busy job and lots of money, but he certainly found the time to meet interesting people out there), each one of them with a certain fetish, I had to suspend disbelief.

Also, I didn’t welcome the prospect of imagining Brandon getting tired of Kasey after a short while, which is the same thing that comes up to Kasey’s mind at this stage of their relationship. Then of course comes the resolution of things and Brandon soothing Kasey’s fears. I wasn’t convinced enough of his explanation and assurance that he plans to be with Kasey for a very long time. The reason is that the book is very short for that and the author didn’t manage to give a deep feeling to the situation, so I couldn’t feel this statement to be really true, or truly real. It needed more time in the oven to make this a properly cooked meal.

The family issue was a little lost on me. It was well done but I don’t exactly know what purpose it serves for the main story. It felt like a parallel storyline rather than a complement of the romantic one.

What I really loved here: the sex scene via Skype in the car. And the full-contact sex scene in the car (a different one).

The story finishes at 84%.

Review: High Contrast (Evolution Ink #1) by Tess Bowery

The deepest scars aren’t the ones that show.

If you love wisecracks, an ensemble supporting cast that read like an alternative Scooby gang and piercings...a lot of piercings with a slow burn romance between comic lovers mixed in...let me introduce you to Tess Bowery's High Contrast (Evolution Ink #1), her first published contemporary.

Jacob Shain is the less cooler twin. He's an unpaid marketing intern to his older twin's tattoo artist. Jacob is used to his role in life, he's fine with it. Until he lays his eyes on his brother's new piercer, Cody Turner. He's larger, blonde, tattooed and pierced. Basically, he's me and Jacob's walking dream (oh boy was he...*hint* piercings upstairs matches downstairs.

Whoops...getting ahead of myself. Pierced fans...gather closer. Seriously.

Jacob is flusters in major geekery for Cody. But Cody is damaged soul, has baggage and bad experiences under his belt that puts Jacob securely in the friend zone. This lasts for a long time. Cody has secrets, no one wouldn't understand, yadda yadda cry me a river. Jacob wants to be Cody's everything and befriends the guy. They share so many interests, but don't say much to take their friendship to the next level.

While the romance slowly burned at the lowest heat in the first half, Jacob's brother and his tattoo shop friends are a crew of sorts. It's stated that Jacob couldn't make other friends than these Evolution Ink shop workers but he didn't read resigned to have them as his friends. In fact, the group read very close like a family, like a team. Any thing that happens to one, seemed to involve them all.

Possible Triggers: Drug Use, Past Abuse (vaguely mentioned & off page, some violence)

The team mentality lends itself into the other major arc of the story since the gang has to solve who is behind ratting to the cops, saving a damaged team member, etc. I felt like I was possibly about the alt Scooby gang rather than the couple in the first half.

The last 40% or so? Made up for the slight. The build was worth it.

Knowing that High Contrast has fan fiction roots made a major difference for me while reading. (This isn't a secret.) It helped put some of the parts where reality needed to be suspended into perspective. I rated this a little higher after learning about its roots like why the slow burn was so slow. It was due to what I dub fan fic drag - the writer drags out the inevitable for chapters upon chapter, for numerous weeks for maximum readership.

Such was the case in here. All systems were go, words were exchanged, just about everyone comments on Jacob and Cody's non-movement to the next phase. A warning for those not too keen on supporting characters lending their two cents.

There were issues for me even though I enjoyed the couple.

The suspense/action....eh. They aren't super heroes, so I'm not sold on every day new adults jumping into the fray against mobs and drug lords. Or breaking and entering because the cops aren't to be trusted etc. I was on board up until the arrest aftermath...after that, things got a little pear shaped in the believability spectrum. For the fandom? Totally works and it's clever how their characteristics are tied into "every day" folks.

The mannerisms...sometimes the inner voices and facial expressions were read too eerily for contemp. You can totally read expressions off of someone's face but sometimes the inner dialogue read like the characters were mind readers

The last 10-15% - it read like a comic book. (The entire story did TBH) But the showdown, the double identities, the 'violence', dealing with a work bully, etc...my reality suspension rubber snapped here and there. Pair that with the NYC setting, something was off kilter for me here. It didn't seem as...contemporary. More like AU.

Cody...on the surface, he's the total package. And I wouldn't categorize him as a "bad boy". He's had a crap life and only shitty options available. Something that read a little off for me was the past relationship and the way the abuse (off page) didn't seem to affect as much as he tried to portray. The author does a decent enough of laying the groundwork as to why Cody is tight lipped...but somewhere in the last third of the story...it was more like lip service than characteristics. I still like him though. (Even if there weren't any piercings)

But...the sweet romance between two good, geeky guys? The hot sex? THE PIERCINGS?! *coughs* Frenum ladder (swoon), Prince Albert (swoon^2), hip, lip, tongue and ear piercings on top of the tatts and scars?  (There was scarification and a mention or two of suspension)

Totally worth the read.

I think the romance part was stronger than the crime/suspense. The wisecracks were a little too thick for me. I think snark loving readers should totally check this out. For me the funny can be laid on too thick and I don't mind if the dialogue didn't read like smart alecky bumper stickers. But my humor needs might be as simpatico as potential readers. Take the humor gripe with a grain of salt.

I'm definitely checking out the next book in the series. I'm hoping it might be starring a hothead and a lawyer.

The writing was engaging, even if sometime it went over my head. I liked the characters.

I recommend this to fan fic readers, especially comic fandoms, new adult readers who prefer their main characters to really get to know one another before being intimate and Prince Albert fans.

Because royalty and all that jazz. ;P

Just cute enough, sexy enough and kinky enough to keep me interested. But I would have really liked to have more that just enough.

Kasey has a pretty unusual fetish. Now, I'm no fetish expert, except from what I've read, but this isn't one I've read about. *whispers* Cars give him a hard on. *nods* So, Kasey is obviously a pretty sexual guy since he gets horny whenever he comes across a hot car, but what I really loved about him is how weird he thought it was. Just because he could be a walking erection in the shop didn't mean that he flaunted it. He was shy and reserved and just darn cute about it all.

Now, Brandon. Brandon didn't think this was weird. Not at all. He loved this kinky bit about Kasey and planned on exploiting it for his benefit as often as he could. And all his plans? *mmmmm* Sexy as hells. I really enjoyed his 'go get him' attitude he had toward Kasey because Kasey needed a guy like that. He needed someone to bring him out of his shell and to make sure he knew it was okay to have a little kink. Actually, it's encouraged by all.

The guys were great, the car sex was all kinds of hot and I was satisfied enough with the HFN ending. But I was left wanting and can't help but feel like their story was cut too short. I would have loved to read more about these two.

I love when two crazy kids with compatible kinks come together. Kasey has an unusual fetish. Brandon seems to get off on guys with unusual fetishes. Kasey has a REAL fondness for certain muscle cars. Brandon is a collector of muscle cars. You see where this is going right?

Kasey is a mechanic and one day Brandon brings his car into the garage where Kasey works for service. Kasey is painfully shy and as I learned about his upbringing I could see where he not only got his shyness, but where his fetish came from. It makes a lot of sense really and kudos to Marie Sexton for bringing something unusual to the story and still making it believable.

I liked Kasey’s character a lot and while he did get a needy voice now and again, it was realistic and he knew he was doing it and wanted to kick himself for it so it wasn’t annoying, I just could empathize with him. He had trouble believing someone like Brandon would be interested in him and while at first it may have seemed like a hookup, turns out they really do have a connection. Speaking of . . . the connections were fine, damn fine as a matter of fact.

I did like the communication and connection between Kasey and Brandon. Kasey was believably needy, but finding his own inner strength and voice at the same time. Brandon was more than willing to shore up Kasey’s confidence but he didn’t coddle him at all which would have so been the wrong thing for Kasey, especially when he was just breaking out of his shell.

The only thing I wanted was a little more of them together. I was really getting attached to the two of them and it was over. It’s a good gripe to have really and I would love to read more about these two AND their car shenanigans.
