Guest Review: Ponyboy (The Braided Crop Ranch #2) by A.E. Lister

Owen Lipke is looking for adventure. When he hears about a ranch in the Muskokas catering to kinky men who don’t want to settle for backroom amateurs, he signs up in a second.

At the Braided Crop Ranch, Owen finds what he’s looking for: A sex positive space with safety protocols and Doms (trainers) who know their business. And a stable full of well-behaved ponyboys to prove it.

Owen thinks his trainer, Kamal, is hot as hell but finds being a ponyboy isn’t as intuitive as he expected. As he struggles to learn the basics of equine pet play under the firm hand of his trainer he finds himself falling for the older, experienced, man.

And perhaps Kamal is developing a thing for the young, adventurous newcomer. But there are rules at the ranch about fraternizing with staff. And Owen wonders if it’s wise to fall in love with the pragmatic trainer who unravels him layer by layer to expose his deepest needs and most secret proclivities.

But perhaps wisdom is overrated. And maybe the rewards of adventure are only achieved when you abandon caution and take a huge leap of faith.

Having enjoyed the first book in this series, I was keen to read this one too and I wasn’t disappointed!

Owen is living, but only just. He craves more, and the local to him kink clubs aren’t offering him what he needs. Then he hears of the Braided Crop Ranch. Is it too good to be true? Let’s see!

Owen’s assigned trainer is the enviable Kamal. He is everything Owen dreamed of, and more. For his part, Kamal loves his job at the ranch, training and guiding a new pony boy every few weeks. But Owen is different. Kamal wants things he most certainly cannot, and should not have. But there are still opportunities. To touch, to master, to make him need. Kamal’s friends on the staff can see a difference in him, but poor Owen cannot trust the feelings that are developing. Could Kamal ever want Owen for real?

The story is thoroughly engaging and fantastically sexy and kinky (naturally) and the characters were warm and I was rooting for them from the outset. The conflict between the characters and their need for each other and the fear for the future was so real I was totally invested in them, and was joyous at the HEA.

Highly recommended.

I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
