Review: Bump by Matthew J. Metzger

David’s pregnant.

He’s always wanted to have children, and being a stepfather for the past two years has been a great adventure. There’d even been a plan to start looking into adoption and turn their family of three into four.

But now there’s a bump, and David doesn’t know what to do. He’s spent years escaping the grip of his own body and burying the past—but there’s no way he can hide from his history if he lets the bump get any bigger. It’s not just his baby; it’s also his breakdown.

He doesn’t know if he can do this.

This is the second book I’ve read by Matthew J. Metzger and I really enjoy his writing style, his character development and world building.

This story, told from David’s POV, took me on a complicated and sometimes messy journey into his relationship with his family, his discomfort with his situation and the dark thoughts that accompanied his dysphoria as he dealt with his unexpected pregnancy.

His relationship with Ryan was solid and warm, sometimes the only thing holding him together. I enjoyed their dynamic, and the dynamic they had with Ryan’s daughter Ava.

Their relationship was loving, Ryan was completely supportive of what David chose, and was there when he needed him. We all need a Ryan when things get rough and I’m glad David had the support he needed, even when it was just barely enough.

This was a memorable read, and I’m glad it’s out there for the world to enjoy. I recommend this to everyone who loves established couples in their romance.
