Ashley Mostrich gets one heck of a birthday surprise when the guy he brought home for the night turns out to be the twin brother of the prince he didn’t know he was supposed to marry. Unbeknownst to Ashley, his grandpa made a deal with a jinn and promised him off to the royal family before he was even born.

Zamir is the heir to the mystical kingdom of Palmyra and promises he will love Ashley in time, while his younger brother, Zaire, is trying to get into Ashley ‘s bed again. Ashley wants to be a faithful fiancĂ© to Zamir, but he cannot deny the powerful chemistry he feels with Zaire. Additional jealousy flares when Ashley discovers that Zamir’s heart already belongs to another, but the pressure for the wedding is on because the future of the Palmyran people hinges on a royal union magically producing an heir.

Once Ashley realizes that Zaire’s feelings for him might be more than physical, he finds himself falling in love with the wrong brother and risking the fate of the entire kingdom. It’ll take a miracle—or one very powerful wish—for everyone to have a happy ending.

Excerpt

“Why does everyone keep calling me ‘savior’?”

“You don’t know? About the prophecy?” Zaire questioned slowly.

“No?”

Zaire made a sour face, mumbling a few soft curses before clearing his throat. “My brother is truly an idiot. Come with me,” he said, taking Ashley’s arm and guiding him back toward where the little girl was.

People were bringing her little trinkets and baubles, receiving a slice of the cake from her in exchange. She had a crown of flowers in her hair, well dressed, and seemed to be of some importance despite her youth.

Ashley watched for a few moments. “Who is that?”

“That is Lady Alana,” Zaire replied, waiting for the name to settle in Ashley’s brain.

“Lady Alana. Wait, she’s the birthday girl?”

“Yes,” Zaire said, something sad in his voice. “Our people are dying, Ashley. Slowly but surely, jinn are fading away. Every generation has gotten smaller and smaller, and there hasn’t been a new jinn child born in over thirty years.”

“Thirty years... Alana was the last one?”

“Yes. Even with all our proper breeding and perfect little arranged marriages, every mating ritual since her birth has failed. But there’s a prophecy, you see, that a royal wedding will bless the entire kingdom with an entire new generation of children.”

“Wait a damn second, that little girl is freakin’ thirty?”

“Yes,” Zaire huffed impatiently. “We don’t age as humans do. Now, do you understand why you are so important?”

“Everyone actually believes that me getting knocked up by your brother or me knocking him up is the future of your entire race?”

“Mmm, pretty much. It’ll probably be you getting knocked up, to be honest. But you know, no pressure!”

“Fuck,” Ashley mumbled, rubbing a hand over his face and chugging his drink.

“My brother knows what’s at stake,” Zaire said gently, a tone meant to be comforting. “He will make amends for his behavior, I know it.”

“Do you believe the prophecy?”

Zaire’s brows furrowed, and he glanced down at his mug as he thought over the question. He took a small sip before he said, “I believe that other people believe it’s true. I’ve never been much for fate or destiny. I much prefer the idea that I’m in control of my own life.”

“You realize this makes what you did even more screwed up?”

“Hmm?”

“If the prophecy is real, you risked the future of your race just to piss off your brother.”

“First of all,” Zaire drawled, wagging his finger, “I never planned for ‘what we did’ to go that far. I truly had no intentions of having sex with you. I was expecting to find a blushing virgin, not an insatiable bedroom hellcat—”

“A bedroom what now?”

“And second of all,” Zaire went on with a smirk, “it was quite impossible to think about the good of my people once I had tasted your gorgeous flesh.”

“Zaire!” Ashley protested, whipping around to see if anyone was listening. He stared back at Zaire, and he suddenly realized that although he could hear his voice, his lips were not moving.

“When you were screaming my name, all I thought about was wanting to hear that sweet sound as many times as I possibly could.”

Ashley gulped, blood creeping up into his cheeks as he stammered, “That’s… that’s, uhm, that was very s-selfish of you.”

“I know,” Zaire said out loud with a smug little smile. “I’m a very selfish person. At times, quite envious as well.”

“Envious?”

“Seeing my brother get all the things I want for myself has become a bit tiresome,” Zaire replied, his lips not moving again, and yet his voice was fully in Ashley’s ear as he stepped into his space. “Not very fair at all.”

“How, how are you doing that?” Ashley hissed, instinctively backing away.

“Doing what?”

“The talking without talking.”

“Magic,” replied Zaire’s voice in his ear.

“You’ve gotta stop saying those kinds of things,” Ashley barked, cringing when he noticed his raised voice earned them several curious stares.

“Hmm, I didn’t actually say a thing,” Zaire pointed out smugly.

“Fine! Stop not saying those things!”

Audiobook Review: Romancing the Wrong Twin (Dreamspun Desires #21) by Clare London

How tangled can a romantic web get?

When gruff mountaineer Dominic Hartington-George seeks sponsorship for his latest expedition, his London PA insists on a more media-friendly profile—like dating celebrity supermodel Zeb Z.

Zeb can’t make the date, so he asks his identical twin, Aidan, to stand in for just one evening. Aidan, a struggling playwright, shuns the limelight to the extent people don’t even know Zeb has a sibling, but he reluctantly agrees.

When the deception has to continue beyond the first date, Aidan fights to keep up the pretense. Dominic likes his sassy, intelligent companion, and Aidan starts falling for the forthright explorer. But how long can Aidan’s conscience cope as confusion abounds? Will coming clean as “the other twin” destroy the trust they’ve built?

Listening Length: 6 hours and 21 minutes
Narrator: Rusty Topsfield

Reviewer: Shee Reader

Ok. Before I start the review, I have to say I sort of loved this story and also hated the audio. The story was terrific. The narrator was super. He has a lovely voice, great characterisations and beautiful emotive expression. My problem was, this is a story set in London, England. The characters are English, the expressions they use are English (and being a Brit myself, that was a rare treat). However, the narrator is American. It grated on me throughout. So much that if I hadn’t have been listening to review the book, I would have stopped listening.

That mini rant out of the way, I’ll tell you about the story.

Dominic is a mountaineer determined to climb the Eiger, as his father had done years before, but being short of funds, his agent comes up with a plan. Dominic should go on a couple of very visible dates with Zeb Z a high profile fashion model, and secure sponsorship for his quest. Zeb is a busy man, and having a diary conflict, he engages his twin to help him. Since Aiden resolutely stays out of the limelight, most people don't even know the effervescent Zeb had a sibling, let alone an identical twin running around. Aiden is a struggling playwright in need of funds himself, and against his better judgement, he agrees to help Zeb and himself with a date with the mountaineer.

Little did Aiden and Dominic know they would spark something magical, and soon fall into several dates and bed! Once Dominic’s funding for his trip is secure, Dom’s agent discusses their ‘exit strategy’ and Aiden is hurt by the idea that Dominic doesn't want him anymore. This wouldn’t be romance-landia without the odd misunderstanding, and this culminates in Dominic seeing ‘his’ Zeb kissing another man. The relationships are engaging, the setting entertaining and the sibling stuff between Zeb and Aiden was perfect! In the end, the declarations were sweet, the ending happy, and the supporting characters are well crafted and interesting.

The story was lovely, really lovely, and I would have adored it with an English narrator. On the whole, it was thoroughly disappointing and frustrating. Maybe, for non-British listeners, this would be a wonderful listen. But for me, this is the wrong narrator for this story.

It’s no secret I am a hopeless romantic. I am in love with love. It’s also no secret that I adore the holy heck out of the Dreamspun Desire series and I am so addicted it could be scary if the stories weren’t so much fun.

This is definitely one of my favorites from the series and that is a tough thing to say. I love the series but when you have The Twin Switch trope then add in one gruff and grumpy bear of a mountaineer I am a goner for the pairing and this story was so much fun.

Dominic is a mountaineer from a family with history dating back the Tudors. Usually a family with that sort of lineage would have money to spend but sadly for Dom, it’s been exhausted and he has a huge trip, the Hartington Hike project, he wants to fund. The trip is one that follows in his late father’s trail, as he was also a mountaineer, and a homage to the expeditions that would take his father from home. It’s a melancholy and yet strong reason for Dom to want to complete this trek of Eiger, but Dom needs money. When his PR company suggests he get a few sponsors and be more out in the public eye aka out and about for the paparazzi, they find the perfect “date” for Dom in the form of model Zeb Z.

Zeb is unfortunately unavailable but he has an identical twin named Aidan who is struggling playwright and director in need of cash flow to get his troupe of actors to a respectable stage. When Zeb calls asks him to take a contract job for him that he cannot be home for, Aidan agrees because he needs the cash but Aidan gets more than he bargained for.

I adored this from the moment we meet both characters. I appreciate that the book has alternate POV’s and that we get each of the in chapter blocks with the start so we have a chance to get to know both of them before they meet and oh when they meet! The reaction of both men was adorable and their impromptu kitchen meal simply set the tone for the story for romance and intimacy.

Yes, I know that Aidan is lying to Dominic about who he is but really only in name and in real life that is so shameful yet in my romance, it’s a great setup for a wonderful story.

I am going to go against my normal and try not to ramble.

I adored the hell out of Dom and love that he bucked the stereotype of the gruff bead a few times. But oh that ONE TIME just about did me in and made me give a Judd Nelson at the end of The Breakfast Club fist pump because it was so sexy and vulnerable and just plain UNF! And UNF again because it’s deserving.

I loved Aidan and how he struggled with wanting to tell Dom but needing to keep the charade of character up for his twin who is off dealing with his own dilemmas while falling for Dom in so many ways. The men were a pure joy to read and fall in love with and just turn into goo over and over again and then feel the angst of it all waiting for the perfect moment of declaration.

Sigh.

Yeah, Romancing the Wrong Twin was the perfect read for a brisk Saturday morning in bed. It made me laugh, cringe, swoon and just really fall head over heels for the story.

Audiobook Review: Lay It Down by Mary Calmes

Paradise can be hell.

Most people would say being stranded in the villa of Spanish shipping magnate Miguel GarcĂa Arquero on the beautiful isle of Ibiza wasn’t such a bad deal. But Hudson Barber isn’t one of them. To him, being stuck without a passport in a foreign country far from home is a nightmare, made worse by the fact that the person who did the stranding was his flighty twin brother.

Unwilling to turn Dalvon in for identity theft, Hudson is forced to wait, but meanwhile he discovers the chance to rehabilitate Miguel’s failing local businesses—enterprises left to Dalvon’s inexperienced care. The flagging ventures are a badly wrapped gift from heaven, and if Hudson can turn them around, he might be able to leverage the experience to finish his MBA.

Then Miguel returns to Ibiza, and instead of finding a boy toy, he discovers Hudson has turned his cold villa into a warm, welcoming home. Miguel’s path is clear: convince Hudson to lay down his defenses and let love in.

Listening Length: 4 hours and 38 minutes
Narrator: Alexander Collins

Ahh yeah. I am a Mary Calmes audiobook virgin no more! It's a moment to be written about in my diary, give me a second to document this.

Okay, so I have read this story but that doesn’t mean that listening to it was not a whole new experience, because oh baby was it ever.

I felt the joining—the oneness—in a heart-swelling, chest-gripping rush.

I admit it took me a bit to get used to being read to, it always does. But when the narrator busts out Hudson's speaking voice I melted into a puddle and just wanted to crawl into his narration and snuggle or maybe squirm once we got to the intimate parts but really… Alexander Collins and the word “Fuck” go hand in hand in *ahem*… hand.  You feel me? The narrator brings the story to life. I know I loved it when I read it but Alexander Collins breathes life, love and passion into these characters with his reading and it's a wonderful pairing to the type of romance Mary Calmes writes.

So once I settled into being read to everything came together, me as the listener and Mr. Collins delivering a short but fun and oh so sexy story I'd read before. Sure, I’d read it but he was giving me another glimpse into the story of Hudson, his spineless wienie of a brother Dalvon and Miguel... the tiger of a man who wants nothing more than Hudson's trust, love, loyalty and to stay with him forever and ever and ever.

Substance is far more attractive than mere beauty.

The story it total crack with an over the top storyline but it's what I love. I giggled and grinned my way through the phone calls with Hudson and Dalvon and kinda swooned at Will being all possessive over Hudson's brother when we was never that way with Hudson. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear Miguel with the first face to face with him and Hudson and *ahem* oh yeah. That in my ear while I sat at my desk working on report files was all sorts of squirmy listening.

As a newbie to the world of audiobooks, I find that I do better with them if I have read the book before as I can keep up with the story better knowing what and who was going on. But I have also found that listening almost gives me a whole new experience. I mean, I was getting bits from the story I did not remember like Hudson comparing his decisions about the staff to Beauty and the Beast when I read it and yet here, it was a fact that made me smile and take notice. A sign of a good narrator or an absent minded reader? I’m not sure but it’s cataloged in my brain now.
“How do you know?”
“Because I feel it…”

Reviewing audiobooks is odd for me because I never know what to exactly review. I loved the story, it’s Mary Calmes and I’m a huge fan but even the best story can suck when its delivery is lackluster. Thank goodness that is not the case here at all.

I loved experiencing Hudson waking up in the villa on Ibiza, stranded because his twin brother Dalvon stole his passport while pretending to be Hudson and ran back to the states and Hudson’s ex-boyfriend to play house indefinitely. I adored listening as Hudson makes the choice to either pretend to be his brother or just be himself and do what he does best, take care of business and those who matter. I cherished when Hudson gets a good look at his brother’s “fiancĂ©” Miguel, and knows all bets are off as well as clothes, because the romance was getting down to business in best way the author can deliver it.

This was so good. The romance, the insta love, insta lust, alpha man to submissive man and all the I WANT YOU NOW AND TO HELL WITH REASON feelings were amazing. The story is full of shenanigans and characters you fall hard and fast for. The narration was in Technicolor with its translation of bright, wonderful and colorful characters flying off the page. Simply a great delivery of a great story. Oh boy. Hudson and Miguel are so stupidly sexy in my ears… mmm hmm. Sex-ay. For me, Mary Calmes and Alexander Collins are a delicious match in gay romance and narration and I need more.
