Tag Team Review: Rough Trade (The Woodbury Boys #3) by Sidney Bell

Quick-witted hustler Ghost is no stranger to living dangerously; survival has always been the name of the game.

He’s just always gone it alone.

Now he’s got the wrong people breathing down his neck, and the only way out demands placing his trust in the unlikeliest of heroes: Duncan Rook, a gruff cop whose ethics are as solid as his body.

Cozying up to a criminal is hardly what Duncan’s reputation on the force needs—especially when that criminal is temptation personified. Ghost is Duncan’s polar opposite, and the last person he expected to fall for.

So then why does every imaginable scenario for taking down their common enemy end with Ghost in his arms?

averaged

Adam - 4 Hearts

I’ll admit that I’ve been very iffy on Ghost. In fact, I don’t think I even liked him much before book 3.

The way Ghost treated Church and Tobias. His disappearing act. His attitude. It just didn’t sit right with me.

But I am now a reformed man. I will root for Ghost - and Duncan - till the end of my days.

‘Rough Trade’ picks up where things left off in book 2. Ghost is stuck between Mama and Spratt, and his time is running up quickly.

As far as the crime/action plot goes, this book hits the ground running. The danger that Ghost is in is imminent from the get-go, and it never really slows down.

The twists and turns kept me very entertained. I’m a sucker for a good action plot, and ‘Rough Trade’ did not disappoint.

It’s got all the corrupt cops, crime lords (or, in this case, ladies), shoot outs, and close calls I could ask for.

But the real star of this book isn’t the crime angle, it’s the slow-build relationship between Ghost and Duncan.

Ghost’s predicament brings him to Duncan’s doorstep. And while Duncan knows that Ghost is nothing but trouble, his unshakeable morals won’t let him turn away.

The two men are complete opposites. Duncan is a by-the-book officer of the law. Ghost has spent his entire life trampling that book into the ground.

And yet these two are helpless to the web that slowly weaves them together.

But it isn’t easy. Ghost has lived a life of trauma, and fuck, did his backstory ever hurt. His only protection has been to build a shell of deceit and manipulation around himself. Duncan sees right through it, and won’t settle for anything less than the man he knows is underneath Ghost’s exterior.

It was almost painful to see Ghost’s struggle as he slowly fell for Duncan. But when he finally let himself believe that he deserved something good in life, Ghost showed up in a big way.

My only niggle: I thought Duncan could have been a tad more considerate of why Ghost was the way he was. But even so, there’s never any doubt that Duncan loves and accepts all of Ghost’s pointy edges.

It takes a lot of hard work, but Ghost and Duncan more than earn their happy ever after.

Overall, this was a great conclusion to the Woodbury Boys series. If you’re looking for romance, crime, and complex characters, give this series a try!

Optimist ♰King's Wench♰ - 5 Hearts

This book kind of wrecked me and I don't know what to say that wouldn't be considered spoilery, so I'm just going to spout some gibberish about my feelings and hopefully there will be something useful amongst the gibberish.

Gibberish with copious graphics. Like I do.

Rough Trade picks up where Hard Line left off and we finally FINALLY get inside Ghost's head. He's on the run and the action plot line takes up quite a bit of this story. He and Duncan join forces to try to figure out how to extricate Ghost from this situation with minimal collateral damage and without breaking the law. Parts of their hiding out I did think dragged but when it picked up it was fun and kept me on the edge of my seat. However, throughout all of it Bell developed a relationship sturdy enough to withstand a Cat-5 hurricane.

Ghost, for me, has been largely enigmatic. I assumed some things about his past that contributed to shaping him and unfortunately I was right about those things. Ghost has survived his own personal hell. (Trigger for mentions of childhood sexual abuse.) That sort of upbringing necessitated a certain tenacity and a set of survival skills that make him somewhat unpredictable; they are second nature to him. Unlearning them is no easy feat. The complexity of Ghost cannot be overstated.

What blew me away... well, a bunch of things actually, but once Ghost starts dealing with his past, some of that dialogue is stunning and the insightfulness of it dazzled me. Ghost's honesty stole my breath a couple times. At one point I was even talking to my kindle! Like a nutbag.

It's no secret that I (along with many others) have been enamored with Ghost from the start but after being inside his head, it's official. I love him. I never ever expected him to be funny. What a surprise that was. I cackled repeatedly at his snarky and highlighted like a fiend. The banter between he and Duncan was a delight.

Honestly, I also never expected Ghost to fall for a cop who's a giant either. Were Duncan a different sort of person this thing between them would've never gotten off the ground, but Duncan is eerily intuitive when it comes to Ghost. How he just knew not to do certain things and to do others made me respect him. The way that subtly changes the longer they know each other is what made me love him, love them. He is a positive influence and a caretaker at heart but mostly importantly, he believes in Ghost which is exactly what Ghost needs making his size a source of comfort rather than a source of intimidation.

I read romance all the time and there are a lot of phenomenal writers out there who can convince me that their couple are soulmates or of their compatibility or of their longevity, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ghost and Duncan will never leave. Neither of them are built that way with Duncan being steadfast to the core coupled Ghost's loyalty and trust issues makes them rock solid in my mind. Maybe all their days won't be sunshine and daisies but they won't leave. They've fought too hard for each other for that to happen. This, I know. And as a romance reader, there's not a lot that beats that feeling. However, there is very little sex content. It just doesn't fit their narrative and I appreciate that Bell stayed true to that.

Instead we're treated to a multitude of quiet moments that meticulously construct a manifest intimacy between them that I found poignant. Slow burns aren't always my cup of tea but the way in which this particular relationship developed made them necessary to each other and that for a squishy marshmallow like me is what brings me back to the genre again and again.

I freely admit that I am biased when it comes to Sidney Bell simply because I feel a sort of kindredness with her writes. She is wordy. I am wordy. She seems to be fascinated with the human psyche as am I. Sometimes that sort of thing doesn't work for people but for me it does. All the words have a purpose: character development. She crawls inside her characters and turns them inside out, showing them warts and all. Neither Ghost nor Duncan are perfect. They make mistakes with each other, they have weaknesses and blind spots but there was never an instance wherein I didn't understand exactly why they chose to do what they did, both the good and the bad. Those choices are what made them fully realized characters, characters that will remain in my memory for the foreseeable future.

So, if you enjoy slow burn romances between protagonists who are polar opposites that are fantastically well developed by a highly talented writer, give this series a try. All the Woodbury boys have been terrific and Rough Trade is not a standalone.

Review: Cash Plays (Seven of Spades #3) by Cordelia Kingsbridge

The Seven of Spades is back with a vengeance—the vigilante serial killer has resumed their murderous crusade, eluding the police at every turn. But a bloodthirsty killer isn’t the only threat facing Sin City. A devious saboteur is wreaking havoc in Las Vegas’s criminal underworld, and the entire city seems to be barreling toward an all-out gang war.

As Detective Levi Abrams is pushed ever closer to his breaking point, his control over his dangerous rage slips further every day. His relationship with PI Dominic Russo should be a source of comfort, but Dominic is secretly locked in his own downward spiral, confronting a nightmare he can’t bear to reveal.

Las Vegas is floundering. Levi and Dominic’s bond is cracking along the seams. And the Seven of Spades is still playing to win. How many bad hands can Levi and Dominic survive before it’s game over?

My immediate response upon finishing this book was:

Every time.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Imma have to re-think my whole vision of myself as "non-masochistic".

Cordelia Kingsbridge: slyly making readers redefine their self-image, one book at a time.

In other words...

Again! I knew it would. WE ALL KNEW IT WOULD! She'll prolly cliff us again in One-Eyed Royals. But I still steady keep reading them the second I get them. Like a junkie.

Honestly though, as hard as it was to read about two characters that I've grown to love struggle I wouldn't have it any other way. They have to test their relationship. It can't always be tongue slap your brains out sex and tender moments that make me heart eyes my kindle like a creeper. True, they're in a bad place right now but their connection to each other is soul deep and I know this too shall pass. There is relate-ability and authenticy in their issues which is what makes them difficult to read but also dovetails into stronger characterizations. I appreciate that these things weren't minimized or overwrought. Also, you know what the upside of them fighting is? ANGRY SEX FTW!!!!!!!!!

Where I think CK truly distinguished herself here is with the construction of this narrative. The Seven of Spades, I believe, is playing a larger puppet master role than I initially envisioned which opens up possibilities with regard to their endgame, and I do believe their is one. An endgame, that is.

Las Vegas's legendary organized crime plays a critical role in Cash Plays. The turf war has caught the attention of LVMPD and Dom gets involved by way of a possible kidnapping case he's working at his new PI job. There are three syndicates that run Las Vegas who seemingly have a cooperative relationship then Utopia bursts on the scene. No one knows much about them but they seem to be reaping all the rewards of said turf war. The lack of investigation into Utopia is my reason for deducting a half star. But even with that oversight this storyline was involved, complex and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Get ready for LOADS of action in this installment! Levi BAMF ninjas out several times and even wends up on YouTube!

I love actiony books and this delivered while also subtly addressing the issue of gun violence and the role the police play in it that's in every headline and I liked the way it was handled; it wasn't preachy or didactic and it didn't divert attention away from the plot.

Those who suffer from depression may want to exercise caution with this one as both Levi and Dom seem to be struggling with it to varying degrees and coping with it in their own, sometimes maladaptive, ways.

Most concerning is Levi's relationship with the Seven of Spades and I don't mind saying I'm kind of beside myself over it. But I have to wait for the next installment.

Must read for fans of the series and psychological thriller fans.

Review: The Devil's Cum in His Eye (A Cox Club Story #1) by James Cox

Cop by day, erotic writer by night, stripper on the weekends and Tomkin Coburn just found a dead body in his bedroom. But which occupation lead to murder?

Coburn has his teenage son in tow and a detective that seems to be interested in his butt as well as his innocence. He’ll do anything to protect his kid and the intense feelings he has for Detective Luke Early. The evidence quickly mounts up against Coburn, murder weapon, body fluids and oh yeah, no one in the world seems to know who the dead guy is.

Together, Coburn and Luke find themselves in the path of a killer but can they unravel the mystery before it’s too late?

It’s been entirely too long since I’ve read a story by James Cox and I’ve missed his words terribly. The Devil’s Cum in His Eye was a great story to get me back into bed with the Cox and I had a great time. His stories never fail to entertain and they’re a great weekend read, a treat you deserve at the end of a week full of reality’s BS.

The Devil’s Cum in His Eye is the story of two cops who are thrown together in a slightly less than meet-cute manner. Coburn has woken up next to a dead very casual acquaintance-with-benefits and Luke is the detective who shows up on the scene. It’s Luke’s case and the two of them shouldn’t spend time together, but there is no fun in that and the two of them are ridiculously attracted to one another sooo, they break all the rules while working to prove Coburn’s innocence in the slaying of the BJ buddy.

Coburn also has a teenage son who is his whole life. Their backstory gives the necessary depth to their relationship and I liked the family aspect the author put in this story. It fit for all the MC’s and I would love to read more about them and actually would have loved for this story to be twice as long. They would be my only niggle. The story had a lot to work with and while nothing is left out and all the questions were answered, I would have just loved more of all of it. The interactions between all the characters, not just the MC’s, were great. I loved Jake’s partner, and would have liked to meet Tom’s girlfriend, not to mention just more of the MC’s together in general. There were great dynamics here and I want more.

One of the things I really appreciate in Cox stories is the relative lack of angst between the two MC’s once the attraction gets acknowledged. Not that they may not have outside influences that affect the “getting together” timeframe, but they are always honest about their feelings and ask for what they want. It’s really refreshing and one of the reasons I’m such a fan. Sure, the MC’s are generally horny as hell, I’ve got no problem with that, but they have no problem admitting they want more and go for it. I love it. I get more time with the MC’s together and they always seem more fully fleshed out to me.

The mystery is solved, but not without loss and this is an example where I wanted more of all the characters involved. It was heartbreaking and I loved how they were all so supportive of one another. I just wasn’t ready to let it all go.

I’m hoping for more in the series soon. I’m heading to Evernight now to get a copy of Lawless so I can read Mickey’s story (you meet him briefly in this one) and I’m ready to get back to the Cox Club world. Kudos to the author for naming the strip club after himself, I mean, why wouldn’t you? And also for the working so many keys to the investigation into the title. Loved it!

Review: Knockout by Dominique Frost

“Knockout” is a blisteringly hot collection of erotic gay stories. Some of them are heart-pounding love stories and some are dark tales of seduction and possession, but all of them sizzle with chemistry and lust. Cops, boxers, bikers and baristas all have hard, sweaty sex with the men of their dreams.

The title story, “Knockout,” is a three-chapter novelette in which a boxing fan meets his idol, an international heavyweight champion, and has a steamy encounter with him in the changing room.

The remaining stories feature best friends, sworn enemies, gloryholes and secret encounters in public restrooms.

In “Mysterious Ways,” a cop who’d thought he was straight is seduced by a mysterious man in a nightclub. In “Best Enemies,” a young gay couple get down and dirty even at the risk of being caught by their visiting parents. In “Evening Glory,” an anonymous rendezvous at a gloryhole proves to be not as anonymous as either participant expected. And last of all, in “Easy Rider,” a man is jealous of his boyfriend’s devotion to his bike, which results in wild, passionate sex in their garage.

3.48 average

Knockout - 3.65 Hearts

"Is there a god of beauty and strength sitting at table number six?"
Jamal blinked at Mason. "Yes...?"
"So I'm not hallucinating?"
"If you've come to me to affirm your sanity, I'll have to disappoint you."

I'm so happy to see new Dominique Frost work! I found her previous work to hot, snarky, hot and did I mention hot? And Knockout remains true to the author's strong suits.

In this erotic short that features a dominant bottom and a submissive top, Cody is an 18 year old college student and barista. He got his life handed to him when his crush, Mason Steele, walks into his coffee shop. Mason Steele is a 28 year old renowned boxer, bisexual and at the top of him game. Cody would know as he's well-versed in all that is Mason Steele: stats, employees, fighting style, the works.

Mason comes in for a cup of joe and leaves with Cody's number. Well, after Cody picks up his jaw and his boner makes an appearance. It's awkwardly cute and flattering. And Mason give Cody the VIP treatment...literally.

Oh how, I love a good muscle bottom. Mason didn't disappoint. And since the story is told from Cody's snarky POV, it made it an enjoyable read. The story is one three chapters and it could have easily went longer with more topping from the bottom scenes, it's essentially a one-shot.

Evening Glory - 3.5 Hearts

Catholic school boys and glory holes!

Blake's life is made a living hell thanks to rich boy ginger haired Carter. Blake attends the dorm via foster parents and is teased on a daily basis. After seeing his nemesis leave during Sunday mass, he follows him to that East bathroom with a reputation.

The bathroom with a famous glory hole, which surprises Blake because he would have never thought Carter would ever be there or go into that stall with a hot mouth seeking cock.

Hot and a little dirty. Finally getting your enemy on his knees, "-taking it like a whore would, taking it like a slut, making slick filthy sounds-"?

*grunts*

Hot.

And it ends slightly hopeful. Another hot one shot. Erotic, decent set up and doesn't delve too deeply.

Mysterious Ways - 4 Hearts

Oh! I wasn't expecting all of that in this erotic dumpling.

Detective Vince Lambert was on top of the world until he caught his wife cheating... with his partner. After beating his ex-friend's ass, he is suspended and in the middle of a divorce. Alcohol is the only therapy he relies on. and while bar hopping he's saved by a mysterious character.

Being as the story is set up mysteriously, I won't talk about the plot twist.

What I will talk about is that this story features cross-dressing and mild Daddy kink. It was scorching the little bit the reader gets. There are potential triggers: transphobic/homophobic language. The tale is told strictly from Vince's POV and he's straight... for the most part.

Vince is damaged throughout Mysterious Ways and there isn't a mysterious penis to cure the well of hurt he has boasting. This touches the boundaries a little. I think Kit, the second MC who is bold and daring is perfect for Daddy.

It ends on a possibility for more. Oh, how I will there would be more.

Best Enemies - 3 Hearts

This was quick and easy NA erotica. College student Jerry has to pretend his boyfriend is just her roommate and best friend when his homophobic and religious parents make an impromptu visit to their apartment. His boyfriend Dale plays along but teases Jerry sexually. With his parents next door, Dale ramps up the teasing because he's horny. This was sexy with frottage and a blowjob. Nothing more once the sex happens. It could have been magical if there was more scenarios to play with.

Overall, not bad.

Easy Rider - 3.25 Hearts

And the collection ends on a bang. (Literally)

Sean has a thing for his motorcycle. He likes to clean and lube his sweetheart (the bike) himself. His boyfriend Randall, is a little jealous of the attention Sean pays the bike.

Enter a meaty uncut cock taking Sean's attention while deep cleaning his baby. A little suck, begging and wall fucking is on order in Easy Rider. The dirty words were a little repetitive after reading the previous ones, so it affected my rating.

Overall, this established couple erotica didn't annoy me! Yay!

Release Day Review: Who We Truly Are (Enhanced #2) by Victoria Sue

Talon’s deadly abilities are spiraling out of control. Desperate to keep Finn safe, Talon struggles to protect the man he loves with all his heart, and not become the greatest risk to Finn’s life.

Finn has no choice but to offer himself as bait for the evil forces kidnapping enhanced children, facing danger he is untrained and unprepared for, and he is having to do it alone.

Does Talon have one last fight in him? Will he slay everyone who wants to destroy Finn and the team, or will he finally discover that to defeat their enemy and the ultimate threat, the biggest battle he has to face is one with himself?

This story picks up shortly after the events in Five Minutes Longer.  Young enhanced boys are going missing and it’s up to our heroes to find out why. Talon, still reeling from the effects of the manifestation of his new powers, is trying to come to terms with how he truly feels about Finn.  It doesn’t help that their current mission puts Finn in danger.  He’s terrified that Finn will be hurt, or worse, killed by whomever is behind the kids’ disappearances.  Finn, however, is excited about the mission as it will give him the chance to prove that he really is an asset to the team and show the powers that be (and Talon) that he’s stronger than everyone thinks.

I’m so happy that we got more of Finn and Talon in this book.  I always felt that their story wasn’t finished at the end of Five Minutes Longer.  Finn, yeah, he was all in almost from the beginning, but Talon still needed to be convinced that someone could actually love him.  He never felt that he deserved to have love.  It was heartbreaking to see him hold everyone at arms-length so he wouldn’t get hurt.

The growth of not only the love between Talon and Finn, but also Finn’s confidence and Talon’s acceptance was a thing of beauty.  They both really shone in this book and I felt like I connected with them on a deeper level.   The secondary characters were fabulous as well.  We got to know the rest of the team better and see more of their individuality.  I can’t wait to read Sawyer, Gael, Vance and Eli’s stories!   Drew though… I’ve got a pot of honey and a fire ant hill with his name on it.  I always knew he was shifty. *glares at Drew*

The plot was engaging and I had a hard time putting the book down.  Though the villain(s) was a bit too mustache-twirly for my tastes they were balanced out well with some surprising allies.  People who I at first thought would be enemies turned out to be more friend than foe and the development of these characters was a delight to read.

I recommend this fast-paced adventure for those thrill-seekers out there who like a bit of excitement and danger mixed in with their romance.  You need to read the first book though, as this is not a stand-alone.  This book, and series, will have you at the edge of your seat, gasping for breath and eager to turn the page so you can find out what happens next.  The writing was superb, the words flowed smoothly, the story was engaging and the character development was out of this world.  I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us in the next book.  Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be just as fantastic.

Excerpt

“It’s good to be back home.”

Logan looked down at him with an eyebrow raised. “Home?”

Clay snorted a laugh. As usual, they were at Logan’s house. When he thought about it, he realized he hadn’t been back to his apartment in weeks. In fact, his bags from their recent trip to Colorado were here at Logan’s. He hadn’t bothered to take them back to his place after their return.

“If I’m in your space too much, I can throw all my stuff in the car and head back to my apartment,” he said as he pretended to pull away.

Logan tightened his grip on his foot. “You’re not going anywhere.”

Clay bit his lip to hold back a grin. “I didn’t think you wanted me to. But what I meant is, I feel good about life. That trip was awesome. I got to play in the snow, just like I wanted.”

“And I got to warm you up when you were done.”

“You did a very good job. You might have gotten me a little overheated a few times,” he teased. He wiggled his toes as Logan squeezed his foot again. “You and I are in a great place. And I think things are going to be better at work now too. We redid Hayden’s ridiculous course and passed with flying colors this time. I’m hoping the fact that we passed the redo means Hayden will get off our backs and quit fucking with our schedule.”

“The team is gelling again. And we’re hoping Hayden will finally move on and give up on his pet project of tormenting our team. Anything else?”

Clay shifted, looking at the TV instead of Logan. “What else is there?”

“Are you still blaming yourself for that idiot making those fake calls to our team?”

Clay pulled his feet off Logan’s lap for real this time and got up from the couch. “Why wouldn’t I blame myself? It was my fault.”

“It wasn’t your fault. And I don’t like hearing you say that it was.”

“C’mon, Sarge. You know that was on me.” Clay roughly ran a hand through his hair, turning his back on his lover. “If I hadn’t gone to that convention and went on camera bragging about how badass our team was, that whacko would have never taken it as a challenge to try and prove he was better than us.” He turned back around as Logan grabbed his hand and pulled him to stand in between his legs.

“Maybe not. But maybe he would have taken his anger out in another way.”

“What do you mean?”

“You read the report Roberts put together on the guy. He was looking for revenge because he felt he’d been slighted too many times. What if he’d physically attacked the people he wanted revenge against? Someone or several someones could have been hurt. At least with the revenge tactics he chose, no one was. We managed to catch the idiot, and hopefully he’ll be granted some time to think about what he did.”

“Are you forgetting he tried to kill me?” Clay saw a muscle tic in Logan’s jaw at the question, his hazel eyes going hard before he answered.

“No, I’m not forgetting.”

Clay tilted his head to the side as he studied his lover. “You know, I noticed that the perp seemed a little worse for wear before you got him loaded in the patrol car. Did you do anything to cause that?”

“I’ll never let anyone hurt you.”

Logan’s response was a non-answer, but it confirmed Clay’s suspicions. “I’m a cop. On occasion, I might get hurt. And you can’t go after people because of that.”

“And you’re mine. Did you forget that?”

Clay shook his head. “No, Sir.”

“Come here.” Clay followed the gentle pull Logan gave his hand to drop down to the couch and straddle his lap.

“You’re my lover. My submissive. It’s my right and my pleasure to protect you, always.” He brought a hand up, his thumb sliding across the metal collar that circled Clay’s neck. “I won’t let anything or anyone hurt you or take you away from me.”

A thrill shot through Clay at that declaration. Logan’s unapologetic possessiveness had caused problems early on in their relationship, but they’d worked on it and come to an understanding on boundaries. Now, he was able to revel in Logan’s possessiveness and caring, because he knew it wouldn’t get out of hand. Clay pressed his forehead to Logan’s and closed his eyes. “I love when you talk to me like that.”

Logan’s hand moved to grip the back of his neck. “Do you?”

His eyes still closed, Clay nodded.

“Tell me why.”

“Because it makes me feel like the most important thing in your world. I’ve never felt like that with anyone.”

“It’s true. You are the most important thing to me. Having you in my life, wearing my collar, means everything to me.”

Clay opened his eyes and looked into his lover’s gaze, seeing the sincerity there. Not that he doubted him. Logan had proven time and time again how much he loved him. “I don’t deserve you, Sir. And I don’t do enough to show you how much I love you in return.”

“You don’t have to do anything to deserve me. I’m with you because I don’t ever want to be with anyone else.”

“Well, maybe I can show you what I feel tonight. Physically.”

Hello, I’m Christa! I’m originally from St. Louis, Missouri and I currently live in Houston, Texas. I have two dogs, I’m a former teacher and I’m a retired roller derby player. I’ve been reading romance novels since I was eleven! My big sister let me read hers as long as I promised to skip the “grown up” parts. I always said I would skip them but read them anyway. I was a rebel. My current book is An Officer’s Submission. It’s an erotic BDSM romance, featuring men from my fictional version of the Houston Police Department SWAT team. This story is about Officer Clay Foster, who loves being a submissive, but still struggles with that part of himself. And his Dom, Sergeant Logan Pierce, who will do anything for his submissive.

1. When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I first received payment from publishers for The Sergeant. It may seem shallow, but receiving a wage for something I produced gave me a great sense of validation.

2. What is the hardest part about writing for you?
Having patience and staying focused. I have a dozen ideas for stories in my head and I want to write them all right now! I have to force myself to stay on task and finish one project through to the end before running off and starting another.

3. What is your work schedule like when you are writing?
I start early in the morning and write in forty-five minute increments with a fifteen-minute break in between. I go until about four or five o’clock. My brain is exhausted and done for the day by then.

4. What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I listen to the same song on repeat for hours. I pick something to match the mood of the scene I’m writing, hit repeat and let it play over and over again. It helps me to get in the right mindset, but it also sort of fades to the back of my mind as white noise that blocks me from getting distracted.

5. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Reading! Curled up on the couch with a good book is the best. My interest in anime is growing. My current favorites are Yuri! On Ice, Death Note, Voltron Legendary Defender, Kill la Kill and my long-time favorite – Sailor Moon. And I spend time with my mutts, Mindy and Chunky.

6. What are you working on now and what are your plans for the future?
I’m currently writing the next and probably last book in the Cuffs, Collars, and Love series. Officer Hector Castillo, the sniper from the team, is getting his own story next! I’ve already finished the rough draft and I’m planning for a June or July release. After that, I’ll be making a sub-genre shift. I’ve wanted to write historical fantasy for a long time now, and I’m in the planning stages for my first project. I’m very excited about it!

Thank you for having me on your blog today! I appreciate the opportunity to discuss my work and look forward to chatting with your readers. Readers, feel free to drop any questions you have for me in the comments. Have a wonderful week!

Love,

Christa
