It sounds like the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas. Detective Inspector Josh Ingram wants to find a deadly medieval locket and through it, a murderer. So why does his boss decide to team him up with Matisse Vervein, a pop idol many consider just a pretty face... and expect the two of them to hunt down an art thief?
Marissa Godwin, Matisse's no-nonsense manager, isn't stupid. Neither is her brother-in-law, Detective Superintendent Tim Montgomery. Each is looking out for a lonely man on the verge of quitting what he does best, and both believe that their charges would make a great team.
The attraction sizzling between Josh and Matisse is hard to miss, but there's plenty of resentment, too. Focussed on pushing Josh and Matisse towards each other, Marissa and Tim haven't imagined the kind of trouble a music star and a detective can find when they ditch their prejudices and accept that the attraction between them is mutual. Or how far each is prepared to go to prove it to the other.
A standalone, feel-good, action adventure romance set in England and Scotland, featuring a reluctant pop star who's not out, a detective trying his hand at being a bodyguard, plenty of adventure, and a happy ending.
Reviewer: Annika
Ok, so ignoring that the plot was anything but credible (I honestly don't think there was a single plot line that was even remotely credible), I actually enjoyed reading this book. It was a light and quick read for days when you're not looking for something heavy or angsty.
Undercover Star had some great bones to the story, but they were never really utilised in a good way. It lacked depth, character and plot development as well as genuine feelings and connections. It was entertaining while reading for sure, but it's not a book that will stay with you after finishing. To be frank, it's one of those reads that you'll forget about once you've put the book down.
Ok, so you might not forget everything. There is probably one thing that you might remember, as you will be frustrated to no end. You see, there were some (big) things left unresolved. For those of you that want to have everything tied up, to have everything finished by the end of the book you will be disappointed. There is a HFN, and there is no cliffhanger to the relationship part of the story, but for the conclusion to the mystery part of the book- that leaves a bit to be desired, as there isn't one. You will be left wondering how it all turned out in the end.
A thing that bugged me though, and maybe I'll be in the minority in this, but I never felt any chemistry or any real connection between Matisse and Josh. Reluctant respect maybe, cooperation for sure, but attraction and then love? Nope, that was absent for me. Maybe over time that would've developed some more, but I just didn't feel it.
An ok read to enjoy in the moment, but sadly not all that memorable.

Blurb:
Asa and his longtime partner, Javier, are looking forward to a cozy, kinky Christmas together. But when Asa discovers his coworker Drew has nowhere to go for the holidays, he invites Drew home for dinner. His motives aren’t entirely pure: Asa and Javier are both dominant, and occasionally arrange one night stands with submissives. Asa’s been hot for Drew for months, even though he has no proof Drew is kinky.
Drew has wanted Asa since the day they met. Drew would never come between Asa and his partner, but that doesn’t stop him from fantasizing about Asa doing filthy, painful, incredible things to him. He accepts Asa’s dinner invitation reluctantly, not eager to witness Asa and Javier’s domestic bliss firsthand.
When Javier discovers Drew’s profile on a BDSM site shortly before Drew’s arrival, the game changes. A bold proposition leads to Asa and Jav sharing a night of play and passion with a dinner guest who’s nowhere near as innocent as he looks. But as their not-so-silent night progresses, all three find themselves on shaky ground. Can they keep this arrangement no strings attached? Or is there a way for each man to get what he really wants for Christmas?

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied history and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

Review: P.S. I Spook You by S.E. Harmon
SSA Rain Christiansen used to be the agency’s golden boy. It just takes one moment of weakness, one slight, tiny, itty-bitty paranormal sighting, and all of a sudden he’s the agency’s embarrassment. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself—go down to Brickell Bay, play nice with the local police, and leave the ghost sightings behind. Rain is determined to do exactly that, even if it kills him.
Cold-case detective Daniel McKenna’s latest investigation is going nowhere fast. Five years earlier, high school student Amy Greene went missing after leaving her part-time job and was never seen again. Daniel is glad to finally have the FBI help that his department requested, even if it does come in the form of his ex.
It doesn’t help that Rain is pretty sure he’s falling in love with Danny all over again—if he ever stopped. Add to that the frustration of seeing ghosts at every turn while he works a case that’s stalled in its tracks, and Rain is starting to wonder if second chances and happy endings are just for fairy tales.
5 THIS MUST BECOME A SERIES Hearts!!!
Okay. Rambling Red is going to say a few words about this story and try to keep it short. I hear your snickers… save it.
I absolutely loved this story. I knew when I read the sample on the publisher’s site it was a book for me. Honestly, it vaguely reminded me of a ghost story (ha story, like 10 pages maybe) I attempted to write a few years ago and gave up on and it doesn’t matter because the author outdid mine and turned this story up to 11!
Told from the POV of Special Agent Christansen, we meet Dr. Rainstorm Christansen as he is being pestered by a young man, a ghost, named Ethan as he is on his way to meet his boss. Rain had been on mandatory leave and dealing with a psych evaluation after he tried to pass on information to Ethan’s parents from their dead son. Rain’s boss informs him he is being sent to Brickell Bay, Florida to help the local police department solve a cold case. You think this would be a good thing but Brickell Bay is home for Rain, where his family is and where he left the love of his life with a broken heart.
From the first moment Detective Danny McKenna comes on the page I was in love. From the first exchange between Rain and Danny I was hooked and from their first banter to argument and back to banter I knew this book was going to be an absolute favorite of mine.
I am a huge fan of second chance romances and this book was perfect. Danny and Rain have such history, chemistry, passion and friendship between them that is was easy to see how they were a couple and how well they worked together in every way. I adored that they could flirt and tease even though it was laced with hurt that both men caused one another. Sure, most of the fault belongs to Rain but Danny could have fought for his man. You know?
Goodness but the UST with these two if off the freaking charts hot! I was on edge waiting for them to cross the line either with lust, compassion or anger. I didn’t care really. I just wanted something to happen because the tension was so thick and delicious. Seriously. These two are hot when they are arguing over not drinking sodas and then almost jumping off bridges… yeah. This book… it kinda owns me right now.
So I have a confession. When it comes to romantic mysteries I can find myself skimming parts of the mystery to get to the romance. Don’t judge me and my hopeless romantic heart, the romance is my jam. But with this, the mystery is layered with Rain’s new craft as a medium I was hooked on what happened to Amy Greene, the why and the whodunit. The ghosts were hilarious with how they came at Rain and when he finally accepted that he was a medium and could help, I realized the possibility of this being a kick ass series…it needs to be a series.
Speaking of ghosts, I have to say I was wondering when Rain would tell Danny about Anna but Danny is clear on his decision, even if there wasn’t a rutabaga in sight. So there has to be another book or 10 for that conversation to happen, right?
Oh boy! This was good. I laughed a whole lot because it’s witty and ridiculously funny. I fell in love because this book is heavy on the romance and I sighed a few times with emotional moments between Danny and Rain.
That end left the book wide open for possibilities and I am just going to say it again: THIS. NEEDS. TO BE. A. SERIES. Who do I have to beg, bribe or blow for it to happen???

Review: Holding On by Sarah Hadley Brook
Eighteen-year-old Aaron Pickard is dealing with a lot: he’s falling for his straight best friend, his mother has ended up in the hospital after a violent assault by his father, and he’s trying to decide when to come out. Tack on the stress of an upcoming prom and graduation, a part-time job, and the possibility he could lose his best friend, and he’s an emotional wreck.
Aaron’s best friend Jeff Leaton provides a soft place for him to fall when his life is thrown into chaos, literally holding him each night as they fall asleep. As Jeff helps Aaron navigate through the mess that has become his new normal, Aaron’s feelings for Jeff intensify.
Aaron’s pretty sure it’s all going to end badly, but he’s holding on to hope.
How does one classify this book? Is it a coming of age? It had all of the coming of age feels that I love: the hesitance, the self-discovery, the falling for your best friend, and the coming out. But, it also had other aspects that made me think we were dealing with characters much older than 18 year old high school seniors. Still, there were the moments of magic I crave in coming of age stories that made me pretend the other stuff didn’t exist... at least for a little while.
Aaron is a high school senior that has it rough. An abusive, alcoholic father has been a dark cloud that finally turned into a cat 5 hurricane. Add in being homophobic to his father's already glowing personality, a mother who stayed and endured the abuse (not judging, just recounting), a sister that witnessed it and Aaron wins the award for the crappiest luck of the draw. Aaron's bright spot though, is his best friend Jeff who doesn’t know his two biggest secrets: abusive home life and that he’s gay.
Jeff is an amazing best friend that’s the calm in Aaron’s storm. He attends to his every need and is able to calm Aaron down from his panic attacks. He is the constant rock Aaron counts on as all hell breaks loose. Jeff is also gay and Aaron doesn’t know.
How they finally got together is beyond me. Every time they were about to make a step in the right direction, drama intervened. There was a TON of drama which meant a lonnnng delay in coming out and an even longer delay in actually communicating interest in each other.
Once they got over the overly dramatic lack of communication and the seal was broken on sex, it was balls to the wall. Errr... more like balls to the chin, hand, ass. You get my point. This was one of those areas I had to suspend my reality and pretend. Aaron and Jeff are two nerdy (but hot) high school virgins with zero girlfriends/boyfriends in the past. BUT, you wouldn’t have known based on their sex life. I’m talking zilch on hesitance, dirty talk that was seasoned, alpha male title drops (literally), fantasy sharing, etc.
“Now tell me, my sexy alpha man, what is it you want?”
There was none of the fumbling first time awkwardness. It read like college or mature adult sex which didn’t line up with their age or experience.
As I mentioned, they go through a lot in the story and I appreciated the balance they had in their friendship and eventually relationship. They had a great connection and chemistry that made me all warm and fuzzy... and if I closed my eyes and pretended they were at least in college, it was hot too. They did take for-freakin’-ever to finally come together. It was amazing how clueless Aaron was. Some of the drama was a little after school special-ish with the star quarterback back coming to their defense and awkward classroom speech. The legal proceedings at the end were also a tad unrealistic but again, I pretended because I enjoyed the bond that Aaron and Jeff had.
For the most part, Holding On kept me coming back for more. I’d recommend it for 18+ coming of age fans who don’t mind lots of drama. Trigger warning for abuse, alcoholism, homophobia, and death.

Sarah Hadley Brook lives smack-dab in the middle of the Heartland and is the mother of two wonderful young men, as well as two cats. During the day, she works in the nonprofit world, but reserves evenings for her hobby-turned-passion of writing, letting the characters she conjures in her mind take the lead and show her where the story will go. When not working or writing, she can be found reading, working on dollhouses, trying her hand at new recipes, or watching old movies and musicals. In her ideal world, Christmas would come at least twice a year, Rock Hudson and Doris Day would have costarred in more than three movies, and chocolate would be a daily necessity. She dreams of traveling to Scotland some day and visiting the places her ancestors lived. Sarah believes in “Happily Ever After” and strives to ensure her characters find their own happiness in love and life.

Tag Team NSFW Review: Of Gods and Monsters: Komainu by Wulf Francu Godgluck
Hades
His innocence was the fire that blighted the deepest dark, but even he can't save the King from a past stained so black, the devil won't even touch it.
Years creep up on you, like a rotting hand: cold and wet, it will drag you down into your grave.
Life will hand you eternity only to rip it away from you.
Love will slaughter you in the most beautiful way and still manage to nail you in the ass, bareback, when you see him choose the heart of another man.
But Death... He is a patient soul. He waits, and he waits, and he waits.
'Cause the bastard knows he will always have the last laugh when he knocks at the door.
Kemono
Memories were all I had, all I had clung to as my heart turned to stone and finally to dust.
Now he is mine and I will hold him, and I will kiss him. We will dance and we will laugh, and we will cry... We will be human together...
I did not know heaven until I knew him.
There is no greater power that can tear and rip your world apart as when their lips finally kiss yours again.
But being human comes at a fatal price.
Sometimes you have to let go of the hand you hold onto so tightly that it brought pain, because that is the only way you can save them from Death.
Rex
Why did she take them away, hand them back, then force me to choose?
Is love really that cruel, that she would enjoy tormenting you as you watch the two men you love with your whole heart, kill each other...?
And then, my worst fear, my deepest darkest nightmare became a living breathing thing.
Death had come to take from us what we could never replace.

Chelsea - 3 Hearts
This was as dark and gritty as you'd expect it to be. If you can get through the first chapter full of very descriptive torture the rest of the book will be smooth sailing.
I was sooooo anticipating this release. After the build up and damn cliffhanger of the last book I was dying for this book!! Did it live up to those expectations? Yes and no.
If I am being honest, I was really looking forward to some threesome action! And it took a long time to get there, but when it did, it was everything I wanted.

The sex was super dirty and primal but there was that underlying emotion and possessiveness to everything these three did together. I loved Komanu, he seemed so essential to the threesome even though Hades and Rex worked so well in the previous book. There dynamics worked really well. Now if this threesome perfection formed 80% of the book not 30%, I would have given this 4 or 5 hearts easily, but it was not to be.
In the foreword Wulf warns us that our heart will be ripped out, and it was, and not in a good way. The ending felt a little unnecessary and not necessarily the death, that I'm sure lots of people know about, but what happened after it. The epilogue was super depressing and not in a, 'this is sad but there is hope' or, ‘my heart is breaking but this is beautiful’ more a, 'holy fuck, how did it come to this?!?’ kind of way. I mean I do not expect hearts and rainbows in these stories, but something similar to….affection… or hope would be nice.
The writing was also a bit too choppy for me, but I know that's Wulf's style. I was a bit lost with who was who and what relationship everyone had and the time frame… generally I was a bit lost throughout the entire story, which isn't a good thing.
The ending was a bit too much for me to rate this highly, but the time these three had together was just what I wanted!
Fantasy Living - 3.5 Hearts
If you have not read Hades then you will need to stop reading this and go and read that first. This is the second installment and background is required. This story starts off a few weeks from the end of Hades, and he is caught by the Russian’s.
Also required reading…. The dedication. Pay attention.
To the author…. I do not forgive you.
This story continues the brutality of the previous books, in language and action. It is rough, and you need thick skin and an iron stomach to read this. It is very dark. I would not recommend it to a newbie. It will definitely scar.
For those who enjoyed the other two books as I did, this will probably push your limits, as it did mine. I’m not a novice at dark stories. In fact I’ve read some pretty grungy stories over the last few years, but between the violent language and the torture in the intro, this maxed me out. It was one of those stories where I needed to take a few hours out from reading my next book to fully absorb everything I’d read and work through my feelings.
I will need to reserve judgment on whether I agree with how this story panned out. Obviously it is not up to me, on where the author’s characters take them, but to be honest, I am deeply unhappy with some of the plot. Obviously I was invested in the story enough to care what happened during it, so this is a mark in the story’s favour. But I am not pleased with the direction, and I will need a compelling reason to change my mind. I hope this is offered in the next book.
Hades and Kemono are both very alpha and they have very different relationships with Rex and each other. It is up to them to pave their own way, but first they need to find their boy who has been missing since Hades walked into the lion's den. Hades is even more disturbed in this story than he was previously, so of course there is a lot of drama.
The angst in this story is extreme, and there is no break. I don’t think there was any lightness to relieve the tension, and this made it a stressful read for me.
I did enjoy how Rex transformed. The extra layers and his side mission was a nice touch. It showed his independence and his willingness to survive devastating blows. I was more invested in him in this story than I was in Hades, and not just as Hades’ little.
This ends sort of on a cliffhanger, so people who hate that, be aware. I think enough of the story was resolved for this to be a ‘next stage’ ending, where the story is left open, but you can use your imagination to extrapolate what will happen in the future.
If you enjoy brutal and dark, then enjoy. And when you’ve finished it, feel free to tell me all about how you feel, because I need to vent too.

BLURB
Rescued from slavers, healer novice Jaime Buchanan finds himself alone and free in Pyrderi, a kingdom of magic, mythical creatures, and a culture as open and kind as his homeland was cruel and close-minded.
Despite his rescue, Jaime is not left without scars, both mental and physical. Traumatized by his experience and hiding his gift, Jaime struggles to earn his place in the kitchens of Angharad Palace, the heart of Taliesin City. His former life as a student of the healing arts leaves him at a disadvantage in the kitchens, and his damaged state is becoming more apparent by the day.
One day, when necessity and fate intervene, Jaime meets someone unexpected—Prince Maxim, youngest son of the Pyrderian king, a sword master and a devastatingly kind man. Unaccustomed to powerful people with compassion and heart, Jaime flees. A cascade of events reveals Jaime’s hidden talents of healing, and he finds himself not in chains, but at the beginning of a new life.
This swift change of fortune opens Jaime up to new possibilities, including a smitten prince who cautiously courts Jaime, easing him away from his fears and reminding him that compassion and love can make him strong. The winter solstice is quickly approaching, and Prince Maxim shows Jaime the enjoyment and excitement to be found in a land that embraces the ice and cold, and the mysteries of all things magical. He learns to see the man under the royal mantle, and Maxim is more than even Jaime suspected.
The winter solstice is nigh when tragedy strikes, and Jaime learns that his past of grief and sorrow can be a pillar of strength for his solstice prince. If there is one thing that Jaime believes above all else, it is in the healing power of love.

EXCERPT
At some prearranged signal, the crowd began to quiet, faces turned towards the canopy where the royals sat. Janis stood and moved to the rail, lifting a hand to the crowd. The people cheered, clapping and shouting the crown prince’s name. Prince Janis was popular with the people if he garnered that kind of reaction— this was not the forced greeting given to a leader that was feared or despised. Jaime still did not know who the king was of Pyrderi, but the future King was well-liked, perhaps even loved. The people quieted and Janis shouted, his words echoing through the cloud air. “Greetings citizens of Taliesin City! On behalf of the royal family and my father, the king, I welcome you to the first official day of the Solstice Festival! Today is cold and the wind is sharp, so I’ll not waste any time! Would the priests please light the solstice fire, and let the festivities begin!”
The crowd roared in approval and there was a burst of smoke across the square. Two men and a woman dressed in gray robes were standing at the base of a large metal structure about the height of a tall man. The woman was cradling something in her hands that billowed out dark gray smoke and she tossed it into the weird structure. Bright orange flames promptly rose and the crowd cheered again. The royals clapped in approval and Jaime hurriedly copied their example, though he had little idea of what was going on.
Maxim leaned down and spoke in his ear. “The priestess is a Magi and she lit the torch with her magic. The torch represents how life endures even in the depths of winter. The winter solstice is in a few days with the festival ending with the grand ball at the palace. The winter festival here in Taliesin City draws in celebrants from around the country and even from some of the islands in the Straits.”
Jaime blushed when Maxim pulled back and gave him a swift wink and a charming grin. “Janis needs to stay and let the people see him for a while, but the twins are about to escape the cold and we have a tour to finish. The first day of the festival is just the opening ceremony since a lot of people are still arriving. Do you want to stay or would you like to finish the tour?”
“The tour sounds like fun, if you’re sure we won’t be missed.” Any time alone with Maxim was worth the icy chill.
“You two should escape while you can,” Janis said, having overheard Maxim. “I’ll be here until the cold gets too much, talking to courtiers and the like.” The crown prince stood over Jaime who blinked back up at him in surprise. For such a large man, he moved with surprising subtlety. Janis motioned to the lower levels of the stands, and the courtiers below were indeed standing and heading for the stairs that led to the royals’ box. “Unless you want to stay and get fawned over by the masses, Maxim?”
“I’ll save that for you, dear brother. Enjoy your day, and welcome home.” Maxim helped Jaime to his feet. Jaime was at a loss for how to respectfully say goodbye to the crown prince, but Maxim solved this by tugging him away with a casual wave to his brother and the twins, who hardly paid them any heed, tossing back small waves of their own before they went back to talking. Janis grinned at them both and tipped his head towards the stairs.
Maxim took hold of Jaime’s hand and took off for the stairs. They hurried downward until they came back to where the sleigh had dropped them off originally. There was a sleigh waiting for them pulled by the same strange creature Maxim called an oryx. Maxim helped Jaime up into the carriage and jumped in behind him. The driver snapped his whip, and the sleigh jerked into motion.
Their visit to the festival might have been quick, but Jaime didn’t mind. The way Maxim held his hand, tight and firm, like he never wanted to let go, filled Jaime with warmth and a slow burn under his skin, heating his cheeks in the chilly air. The prospect of spending the next few hours in Maxim’s company was incomparable to anything he’d experienced in his short life. Not better than the day he was freed from the slavers, but it was close.
Falling in love felt like learning how to live again.

I'm a self-employed writer who stresses out about the silliest things, like whether or not I got my dog the best kind of snack and the fact my kindle battery tends to die when I'm at the best part in a book. I write mainly gay romance, erotica, and urban fantasy, with occasional forays into contemporary and paranormal. I love a book heavy on plot and character evolution, and throw in some magic, and that's perfection. My current series are: The Beacon Hill Sorcerer, Bred For Love (as Revella Hawthorne), The Wolfkin Saga, and the epic fantasy romance series Realms of Love. My last two novels in the Beacon Hill Sorcerer won 3rd Place in the Gay Fantasy category for the 2016 Rainbow Awards.
I live in New Orleans, where the personalities are big and loud and so are the bugs! New Orleans is rich in cultural history, and the flavor and music of the City is impossible to hide. Before that, I lived all over the United States: Tampa, Western Massachusetts, Indianapolis, and on and on.... I'm a nomad, and I've yet to find a place that calls to me strongly enough to become home. My faithful travel companions are my dog Micah, the numerous voices in my head who insist they all get put on paper, and the wind at my back.

Tag Team Review: Merry & Bright by Joanna Chambers
Three seasonal love stories from Joanna Chambers
Humbug
Quin Flint is unimpressed when his gorgeous colleague, Rob Paget, asks for extra time off at Christmas. As far as Quin is concerned, Christmas is a giant waste of time. Quin’s on the fast track to partnership, and the season of goodwill is just getting in the way of his next big project. But when Quin’s boss, Marley, confiscates his phone and makes him take an unscheduled day off, Quin finds himself being forced to confront his regrets, past and present, and think about the sort of future he really wants…and who he wants it with.
Mr Perfect’s Christmas
Sam Warren’s new job hasn’t been going so well so the last thing he’s in the mood for is the obligatory office Christmas party, particularly since Nick Foster’s going to be there. Nick–the guy whose shoes Sam has been trying to fill–seems to take very opportunity to point out where Sam’s going wrong. But when Sam receives an unexpected Secret Santa gift at the party, he’s forced to question his assumptions about his rival. Could it be that he’s been misinterpreting Nick’s actions all along? And is it possible that his reluctant attraction to Nick is reciprocated?
Rest and Be Thankful
Things haven’t been going well for Cam McMorrow since he moved to Inverbechie. His business is failing, his cottage is falling apart and following his very public argument with café owner Rob Armstrong, he’s become a social outcast. Cam needs to get away from his troubles and when his sister buys him a ticket to the biggest Hogmanay party in Glasgow, he can’t leave Inverbechie quick enough. But when events conspire to strand him in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm, not only is he liable to miss the party, he’ll also have to ask his nemesis, Rob, for help.
Lost in a Book - 4 Hearts
Having trouble getting into the holiday spirit? I think these shorties may turn that frown upside down and have you channeling your inner Will Ferrell.
Ok, maybe not that excited but possibly a little less Scrooge and a little more Grinch finding his heart. These three stories all have something in common; The MCs feeling like they’ve hit rock bottom while utterly alone. But are they really alone? What can they do to find their way out of Scroogeville? Those are questions the men in each story have to work through. It isn’t that they have a hatred for the holiday season, life has just beaten the shit out of them and each man has to figure out how long he’s going continue being kicked while down.
Humbug
I was a fan of Quin. Not the asshole-ish vibe he constantly gave off but of the journey he made from beginning to end. He was the classic case of living to work and not working to live. Quin treated everyone around him like they were mere peasants and he was king. Luckily, Rob saw through his facade and was an excellent role-model on how to treat people. Rob had the unique ability to put Quin in his place while making him want to be a better person. This was a super sweet short that made me all warm and fuzzy once they got their HEA.
Mr. Perfect’s Christmas
Meh. This was shorter and the story wasn’t as enjoyable as the first in the anthology. Sam was Eeyore and it seemed that he always thought the worst of himself in all situations. He needed a little more reassurance and Nick was just the man to do that. I wish this was a tad longer for increased depth but it served its purpose for spreading Christmas cheer and the message of hope.
Rest and be Thankful
This was the longest in the anthology at about 50%. Cam. He broke my heart. Cam was trying to tread water in his shitty circumstances and was sinking fast. He was really relatable in that everything was going wrong all at once. House falling apart, not making enough money at work to fix everything, trouble in the community, completely alone, and not wanting to ask for help to save face. *sigh* His despair was a tangible thing and Rob was just the person to provide that “rest” for this weary man.
But, here's my pickle… This was the longer of the stories and I felt it provided the least amount of closure. Yes, the men have their HEA but we still don’t know if Cam fixed any of his other circumstances. Once he got the New Year's peen, it was game. over. There wasn’t an epilogue and I feel kinda gypped. *Bah humbug*
All in all these sweet stories are perfect for the holiday season with a little heat thrown in. They gave me warm and fuzzy feelings of hope, love, and the benefits of surrounding yourself with the ones in your life who matter most. Recommended.
Lorix - 4.5 hearts
I have read all of these stories before as they've appeared in various anthologies - it didn't lessen my enjoyment any though.
Humbug - 4.5 hearts
A nod to the old Scrooge storyline, this sweet short helps Quin realise the importance of friends family and love, especially at Christmas. A short, sharp look at the person he was turning into, how he was seen by others made him start to re-think his values. The 'ghosts' of past present and future were his friends and colleagues; a glimpse into how life turned out for his boss plus a little guidance and love from Rob helps him see the way for an altogether happier Christmas-time.
Mr Perfect's Christmas - 4.5
Sam is trying to fit into Nick's shoes, and from where he's standing they're pretty big shoes to fill. Sometimes though, if you just look at things from a different angle they can be quite different. It's easy to pre-judge others, especially if your own confidence is a little on the down low! I really enjoyed this story of love being found where you last expect to find it.
Rest and Be Thankful - 4 hearts
Change is hard. Making new friends is hard. Risk is hard. And it's a whole lot harder if you refuse to ask for or accept help - which sums Sam up pretty much in a nutshell. There is such thing as being too independence, pride comes before a fall and all that... Of course when him and Rob got their heads out of their arses and started communicating (even if it was mother nature and a snowstorm that gave them the push) things turned out into the sweet seasonal love story I wanted.
I have to say, I have read this story before and I'm sure it had a longer ending. I kept expecting his parents to help him out with the repairs to the cottage but... maybe I'm confusing stories!

Blog Tour: Fangs and Catnip by Julia Talbot
Julia Talbot is here today with an exclusive excerpt of her new shifter story, Fangs and Catnip, part of the new paranormal Cracky Fluff line from Dreamspinner Press!
Hey y’all!
I’m here today with an exclusive excerpt from Fangs and Catnip, my very first Dreamspun Beyond, from Dreamspinner Press! It’s also the first book in a new series about the Dead and Breakfast Inn, which is owned by werebear Tanner and vampire Fallon. In book one, Tanner hires were-kitty Carter as a manager to help during the winter hibernation. Fallon doesn’t think they need a manager, but Carter might convince him otherwise.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll take a chance on Fangs and Catnip!

Fallon Underwood stared at the screen where Tanner’s email glared back at him. Three résumés attached, and none of them was remotely suitable for the inn.
They had a night auditor who was perfectly trained, so the vamp was out. The mummy wouldn’t work in the least because no one wanted random crypt dust on the floor—Glenda would hex his undead ass out of existence—and unattached fingers in the tea? Right out.
He pursed his lips when he looked at the werecat. Mountain lion. Very young. Just out of college. No. That would never do. Too bouncy. Too Tigger.
He called down to Tanner on the house phone. “Seriously? A river rafter? Seriously?”
“He has a degree in hospitality. He worked at a large B and B in Fort Collins.”
“He’s a kitty adrenaline junkie.” They didn’t need that kind of energy.
“Yeah? Well, that will serve him well. I notice you don’t comment on the other two.”
“Because I just deleted those. You weren’t serious. No way you were.”
“No? Well, I have a few more to send you. They’ll come for interviews next week.”
“Are you sure you can’t just have Glenda do it?”
“Glenda? Our Glenda?” Tanner laughed, the sound merry as fuck. “She would smother the guests in their sleep. Possibly awake.”
“Either that or make them statues. Less work that way.”
“One of the ones I still need to send you is an elf.”
“Seriously, Tanner? A house elf?”
“I know! Wouldn’t that be amazing?”
“No. No, elves are not helpful and you know it.” They were vain and much preferred others to work for them.
He just wanted to bite them.
“You’re profiling.”
“Tanner, I will bite your beary butt.”
“Alas, you never follow through.” Tanner sighed dramatically.
“It’s all that muscle,” he teased. “My fangs ache just thinking about it.”
Tanner laughed. “Come down and have supper/breakfast with me. It’s dark.”
“I suppose I can do that, bear. Give me ten.” He stood up and stretched, feeling his back pop.
“You got it. I’ll warm something for you.”
“I’ll be right there. No mummies.”
Tanner chuckled and rang off, leaving him even more worried than before. He had a feeling he was going to end up having to veto the mummy in person.
That smell, and the sneezing….
The sneezing was the worst.
He changed out of his sweats into a pair of dark jeans and a button-down shirt in midnight blue. Fallon hated to let anyone, even Tanner, know what a slob he could be.
Sure, he could spend night after night in front of his computer, head down, not even breathing, but that was his secret.
Tanner deserved for him to look good, just in case there were guests. He shot his cuffs before making his way downstairs, admiring as he always did Tanner’s understated, old-world decorating style.
He’d loved this place from the first time Tanner’d brought him here, decades ago. There was something magical about this space.
Maybe it was the land. Maybe it was Tanner. Either way, he didn’t want to lose the balance they had, and he feared it would happen if someone new came on board.
He worried about it with every new person. Every single one. Most of them he admitted he never saw. Glenda kicked him out of his rooms once a week to clean. Jami brought him blood at 4:00 a.m. most nights.
It wasn’t like they were a big estate. They weren’t a hotel, for goodness’ sake.
Tanner was just being dramatic. Bears hibernated, but humans did not.
Oh, that was the tack to take. Bears hibernated, but so did a lot of their clientele. In the winter, most of their guests were low-maintenance.
Like him. He was totally easy.

Blurb:
A Dead and Breakfast Novel
A romance worth fighting for—tooth and claw.
Solitary vampire Fallon Underwood gets all the social interaction he needs being the silent partner at the Dead and Breakfast B and B high in the Colorado mountains. Change is hard for Fallon, so when his business partner, Tanner, suggests hiring a new manager for the inn, he’s adamant that they don’t need help, especially not in the form of bouncy werecat Carter Hughes.
Carter is a happy-go-lucky kitty, and he loves the hospitality industry, so the D and B ought to be a great place for him. He falls for Fallon as soon as he picks up one of Fallon’s novels, and begins to woo the vamp with gifts. When Fallon finally succumbs to Carter’s feline charms, the results are unexpected, to say the least. Their mating will have irreversible consequences—for their bodies and their hearts.

Review: Being Roy by Julie Aitcheson
The greatest trial Roy Watkins faces isn’t deciding whether she’s gay or straight, male or female, West Virginia country mouse or prep school artistic prodigy. It isn’t even leaving behind her childhood sweetheart Oscar to attend uppity Winchester Academy in the hunt country of Virginia, or acclimating to a circle of friends that now includes privileged Imogen, her sharp but self-conscious sidekick Bugsy, and the tortured Hadley. No, the hardest thing for Roy to face is the world’s expectations about who and what she should be.
As Roy’s journey of self-discovery forces her to cross one hurdle after another, her identity closes in fast. Sooner than she could have ever predicted, she’ll have to decide what that means for her, the people she’s coming to care about, and the life that lies ahead.
**This review has been revised at the author’s request. Due to my Aussie misunderstanding of American Education system, in which some terms have different meanings than my Australian equivalent, I incorrectly stated that Roy was in College in my original review. Roy’s move was to an all girls boarding high school. My apologies to the author for this misunderstanding**
Roy’s journey through transitioning to an all girls boarding High School is pretty intense. Usually a loner, except when it comes to Oscar, Roy suddenly has friends she’s not certain she wants. All Roy wants to do is study and make art, but the girls who have claimed her as a friend will not allow her to slink into the background.
I really enjoyed this story. I found Roy’s cynicism very familiar. Roy’s reality is harsh, and she’s had to learn to make do with an absentee parent who loves her and just wants to make sure Roy succeeds.
Oscar is off to Florida University on a sports scholarship which creates a strain to their relationship over the first year. Things happen, and sometimes being in a different environment changes the view of how people look at the world.
The background and general worldbuilding made this a really layered read. I enjoyed Roy’s point of view. I found it pretty fairly balanced. Roy is self confident within her art, but her body creates problems, and to counteract the discomfort of it growing in a way she doesn’t want, she molds her relationships to ensure she isn’t looked at in a typically gendered way.
I loved the interactions and the story line. I thought the relationship building was great. Where I wanted more was the hint of understanding, when it came to Roy’s recognition of Jacob. I really wanted that to be explored more.
All the characters were colourful, and they fit with Roy. Roy needed pushing outside her comfort zone, and made to expand her worldview. Mama Dot certainly made her point when she called Roy a snob in her own way, even if she does live in a trailer park and doesn’t conform to societal norms. Allowing that truth to settle, and to evaluate how to move around that was a great challenge for Roy. This allowed some serious growth, and although Roy had many hurdles, and some bruising on her heart by the end of this first year, it was one of amazing opportunity to start to understand who Roy really is.
I’d recommend this to everyone. It was sweet and enjoyable. A great coming of age story.
