Audiobook Review: His Leading Man by Ashlyn Kane

He wrote a comedy. Fate directed a romance.

Drew Beaumont is bored of the same old roles: action hero, supervillain, romantic lead. He’s not going to let a fresh gay buddy comedy languish just because they can’t find him the right costar. No, Drew bats his eyelashes and convinces everyone that the movie’s writer should play Drew’s not-so-straight man.

Aspiring writer Steve Sopol has never had a screenplay optioned. Now one of Hollywood’s hottest properties wants to be in a movie Steve hasn’t finished writing—and he wants Steve as his costar. Turns out the chemistry between them is undeniable—on and offscreen.

Drew swore off dating in the biz, but Steve is the whole package: sharp, funny, humble, and cute. For Steve, though, giving in to the movie magic means the end of the privacy he cherishes. Will the credits roll before their ride into the sunset?

Because this did not make me wince or roll my eyes once!

Just like the blurb says, Hollywood heartthrob Drew, is up for a challenge and that’s a comedy. However, despite finding the perfect script, Drew hasn’t found the right costar. That is, until the writer himself naturally fits the role to the “T”.

Steve for sure is hesitant to star in his own creation. He’s a writer, not an actor, and he prefers to be behind the scenes not the center of attention. Despite that, it’s very hard to say no to the charismatic Drew and plus, this is huge opportunity that Steve can’t pass up.

This is Dreamspun Desires done right. Narrated by Kenneth Obi, he did a good job, and I have no complaints at all regarding the voice distinction and emotion that was brought to this story. This isn’t fancy nor silly. This has minimal angst, plausible progression, and real life doubts and challenges. Well…. as much as you can get in the privileged world of Hollywood’s rich and famous.

It’s apparent I liked this. Though Steve and Drew weren’t looking, they quickly connect and realize that they just might have something special with each other. Awww.

Simple easy sexy romance!

Thank you to the author/publisher for the audio in exchange for an honest review
