Lucky Roberts has lived in Loveland his whole life. He has good friends, strong family support, and is all about keeping his community fun and alive. The only thing Lucky has been "unlucky" with is love. But rather than avoiding February fourteenth in his hometown, he throws himself into helping others deliver their messages of love.
Enter Jack Canon. Jack moved to Loveland for a fresh start, in both his personal and professional lives. After a tough year, he's finally hoping to just blend in, maybe carve a little niche for himself that his parents would have been proud of. What he didn't expect was a pseudo-lumberjack with a killer body and shy smile to turn his world upside down – and he sure didn't expect to like it so much.
When Lucky meets Jack, he feels like a thirteen year-old with his first crush. He's clumsy, stammering, and the first greeting out of his mouth is a less than articulate, "Wow!" Words like adorable and manbun suddenly become part of his vocabulary as he discovers a deep, hidden need to romance the hell out of Jack.
And what better way to do that than during the most romantic season in the City of Love?
Jack, who is a Kindergarten teacher (<- I know, right?), has a guest speaker for his kiddos. Lucky is there to talk hockey with the class, but as soon as he sees the teacher he can't take his eyes off the guy. His only reaction was "Wow." Hot Kindergarten teacher with a manbun? I'd be saying "Wow", too.
Jack and Lucky hit it off right away and were pretty darn adorable together. They took things slow and were intent on courting each other. They wanted to do things right and I appreciated that. I loved their dates and seeing them fall for each other.
There were some cheesy moments. I mean, with that title and premise, it's hard not to be. But I do love me some cheese now and then, and it fit in well with the story here. The town has a thing for Valentine's day with some cute traditions. They had an especially fun date with this tradition. Was it all that believable? Ehh... I don't know. But it left a smile on my face and when I read a romance that's all that really matters.
Jack and Lucky got along great and had some fun banter. It went into too much territory for me a couple times, though. They never had bad intentions, but the constant little jabs were annoying after a while. I love me some good banter, but I also like actual conversation.
All in all, this was a very cute read. Some minor things bothered me, but I'd love to read more about Lucky and Jack. They're quite fun to read about.
