Virtual Tour & Giveaway: Save of the Game (Scoring Chances #2) by Avon Gale

Today the unicorns are very lucky to be interviewing AVON GALE author of Save of the Game.

Hi Avon, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

What’s the best line you ever wrote?

Oh my, that’s a tough question! It’s probably some line of dialogue, knowing me. I did like Avery, in “Let the Wrong Light In,” saying he was like a Dum-Dum mystery sucker, and you could either tell what it was through the paper or suck on it and find out all the answers. I was pretty proud of that one.

Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what kind?

I’m a huge music lover, but weirdly, if I’m writing and not editing, I have to have it quiet. No music, no nothing. For an extreme extrovert with ADHD this is kind of unheard of, but I guess that makes it easier for me to focus on all the stuff going on in my head and get it down!

If your book were made into a movie, what actors would you like to see star?

I’m so terrible at this game because I watch mostly horror movies. With horror you either get something terrible with actors you’ve never heard of, or a low-budget movie with actors you’ve never heard of, or an indie/international film with actors you’ve never heard of. So this is a bit of dilemma!

Since my guys in Save of the Game are hockey players, though, I can say that Riley looks a bit like Carey Price of the Canadiens (insert obligatory hissing noise from Bruins-fan Avon here) and Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils (Riley makes a mention of him in the book to Ethan). Ethan in my head looks like a young Ben Nichols from the band Lucero.

What genres do you write in?

So far I’ve been writing contemporary. But I do have a fantasy novel nearly finished, an urban fantasy paranormal that I’m working on and one set in a post-Armageddon world in which the Devil was victorious. I also really want to write a gothic romance, because I LOVE those.

Where and when do you prefer to write?

I’d say the time I get the most done is afternoon/early evening, but if I’m on a roll then I’m on a roll. If I’m really into something, good luck getting me away from the laptop. I used to write a lot at the day job I abandoned to become a hair stylist, and of course it’s impossible to write and do hair simultaneously! (It probably should have impossible to do my old job and write simultaneously, which was a huge clue I needed a new job) I have two dedicated writing days on Thurs/Fri, and usually I get going mid-afternoon and write pretty steadily until around 7 pm.

Ethan has no hesitations. As fearless as his position demands, he rushes into things without much thought for the consequences. Though they eventually warm to their passionate new bond, it doesn’t come without complications. Excerpt:

His phone beeped, alerting him that he had a new text message. It was from Ethan Kennedy, the defenseman the Storm had acquired before the trade deadline last spring. The rowdy Kennedy, who had a heavy New York accent and was a huge fan of the New York Rangers—a team Riley hated, by virtue of being a New Jersey Devils fan—had bunked with him for a few weeks during the finals. He’d gone back to New York after the Storm lost in the playoffs. Riley hadn’t been sure if he was coming back or not, but the text message indicated he’d just gotten back to town, and would Riley mind picking him up from the airport?

And oh, he got a cheaper rate by flying into Tampa, which was three hours away. Was that a problem? And one last thing. Riley didn’t need a roommate by any chance. Did he?
Riley looked around his apartment, which was nice and clean and quiet. Just like it always was, except for those few weeks last spring when Ethan was there. He was loud and messy and always in Riley’s space, left half-full cans of Pepsi everywhere, drank whiskeys with dubious-sounding names, and smoked like a chimney.
be there in 3 hrs, Riley texted and grabbed a few boxes of coconut water out of his fridge. The idea of coming home alone after games reminded him of those car rides in Wyoming, and he was getting tired of the silence.

  1. Football has always been my favorite sport. Since reading M/M I'm starting to learn a little about Hockey and trying to view a couple of games. I've never been around anyone that enjoyed the sport so I'm flying blind. I loved Breakaway and look forward to reading this one. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.
