SPOILERISH REVIEW
The conclusion of the Bad Angels trilogy was strong on adventure and light on characterization.
Noemi/Anahita is separated from her men for a time in the other world which gives her time for her two selves to coalesce and brings a reunion with her brother. Meanwhile Rex and Rion are desperate to find her. Sort of.
What a found jarring was the blasé reunion? Rex could've happened upon an old acquaintance for all the enthusiasm he mustered up. AND she found them halfway across the world! You'd think that would inspire some gusto or something. Relief or some OMFG! I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONE FOREVER I'VE MISSED YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!
They need a lesson from Teen Wolf or The Notebook or something of that ilk. Because this was just... unsatisfying.
Of course that didn't stop them from immediately going to the house and d-ping the stuffing out of her. That struck me as very disingenuous. I need to see the desire, the want, the romance not just the sex especially if you're selling me an HEA.
Aside from knowing these characters multiple names (whyyyyy do they all have to have 2 and 3 names? And whyyyyyy are they used interchangeably?) and what sort of species they are I know nothing about them and that is precisely what dimmed my ardor for this series. I enjoyed the battling, the wings and the overall story arch, action-wise, but the characters and their relationship took a back seat, in my opinion. Unfortunately, that was what I was looking for and what I got was a significant time jump with an unconvincing HEA.
Also, I found the loose end of Patrick and the missing Michael to be unfathomable. I'm assuming it's the set up for another book outside of the series? I'm not sure what to make of that seems chain-yankish.
These books are to be read as a series rather than stand alones and I'm somewhere between 2 and 3 hearts on this one and the series as a whole.
Decent storytelling but it needs more depth.
