Author Interview

1 .What are your favorite M/M themes?

I’m pretty outspoken that my favorite trope is enemies-to-lovers. I can’t get enough of it. The sexual tension just leaps off the page! Rawr! As for larger themes, I like misfits who find their fit. I find that’s what I write, and that’s what I enjoy reading. Also, dead bodies. I love a good mystery or suspense element in my m/m romances!

2. What books do you consider Desert Island Keepers?

So, so many. I’ve got some non m/m romance books that are must haves, like Deon Meyer’s 13 Hours, but my m/m romance picks: Joey W. Hill’s Rough Canvas would be the first book I packed. It is my absolute favorite m/m read. I’d also want JL Langley’s With Caution and Kendall Mckenna’s Strength of the Pack and SE Jakes’ Bound by Law. I’d love to pack Mary Calmes Matter of Time and Marshals series, as well as Rhys Ford’s Cole McGinnis series and Hailey Turner’s Metahuman Files series. I’d also want Kora Knight’s Upending Tad and Krie Chronicles. Hmm, as long as I have room in my suitcase, I’d toss in Shannon West’s Mate of the Tyger Prince and Dark Hollow series and Avril Ashton’s Brooklyn Sinners series. I like to have variety.

3. What's your go-to tasty beverage?

Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. Did I mention coffee? If I could get away with only drinking coffee, I probably would. Ooh, unless there’s a Moscow Mule around. I could be talked into cheating on coffee for a Mule with some kick.

4. Do you have any secret talents? Inquiring minds want to know.

I’m pretty extroverted, so I’m not sure I have many secrets. Lolz. I can speak Swahili, put up a tent in the dark, keep a cool head in an emergency, and give excellent hugs. Do any of those count?

5. If you had to choose to be one magical beast, what would it be and why? (you don't have to say unicorn...but we won't say neigh either)

Maybe an elf—the Lord of the Rings type and not the Keebler kind. Lol. It would be cool to have magical abilities that were tied to the environment I lived in and it would be awesome to have grace (which I do not).

6. Who's your favorite porn star?

Honestly, I don’t have a favorite. I’m not much for following famous people in general. I make an exception for Jason Momoa and Chris Hemsworth.

7. Do you have author envy? Whose words do you read and think, "GAH, I wish I wrote that!"?

Not exactly author envy, because I’ve come to realize that I can love something another author wrote and never, ever write the way they do. And that’s okay. I love Ella Frank’s contemporaries. I’m not much of a contemporary romance reader or writer, but I can appreciate how amazing she is at it. I adored CS Pacat’s Captive Prince trilogy, but I will never, ever sound like her when I write. It just isn’t my style. The same goes with Hailey Turner’s Metahuman Files series. So, so good, but completely different than my voice. So not so much envy as appreciation.

8. Any new projects you're currently working on?

I’m trying to finish a paranormal novella that should have been finished a month ago. For some reason it’s just soooo slow going with this one. I’ve also just started book 3 in the Starfig Investigations series and am looking forward to sinking into their world again. Every time I write about Twig and Quinn and their friends, it’s like wrapping myself in a comfy blanket and settling in with a cup of coffee. I love these guys and I’m as excited as my readers to see what they get up to next.

Thanks for having me today and congratulations on five fabulous years!

Be Fairy Game (Starfig Investigations #2) by Meghan Maslow

They’re baaacckk!

When a simple ‘find & fetch’ case throws private investigator Twig Starfig and newly-minted wizard, Quinn Broomsparkle, into the middle of an EBI murder investigation, it’s just another day in the Elder Realm.

If murder were Twig’s only problem, he’d be the luckiest half-dragon in the land. Murder he can handle. Fulfilling his promise to his scheming, power-hungry father to run for a seat on Lighthelm’s city council? Meh, he’d rather face a demon with a toothache.

On top of their case going sideways, and Twig running for a council seat he really doesn’t want, Twig and Quinn are forced to face some unpleasant realities about their budding romance, while still learning how to handle the wizard-familiar bond they now share. Throw in a red fury with abysmal taste in boyfriends, a ghost pirate-parrot who drinks too much, a murderer who will stop at nothing to get what they want, a host of new friends and enemies, and you’ve got a situation where no one is safe and everyone is Fairy Game.

*This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
